## What is Stroke Sight?

After a stroke, sight can change in ways that are hard to live with — words slipping off the page, things missed on one side, the world feeling somehow incomplete. Stroke Sight is a simple, daily way to train your vision at home, at your own pace.

It's built around nine exercises for the four most common visual changes after stroke — hemianopia, quadrantanopia, visual neglect and scotoma — based on the compensatory scanning and tracking approach used in stroke rehabilitation research.

Why we built it

Stroke Sight was made by a family living with stroke. After someone we love lost a large part of their visual field, we couldn't find an app that was thorough, calm to use, and available in our own language — so we built one. It's made in the UK, for survivors and the people who care for them.

What you can practise

• Field loss (hemianopia and quadrantanopia) — practise scanning into the side you've lost, with guided exercises for noticing your surroundings and for reading.
• Neglect (one-sided inattention) — gentle tracking toward the side that gets overlooked, a widely used approach in stroke rehabilitation.
• Scotoma (a blind spot) — training to find the edges of the gap and work around it.

The exercises use the kinds of scanning and tracking practice described in published stroke-rehabilitation research.

What's included

• Nine exercises, each with ten levels that adapt as you improve
• Three colour modes — standard, high-contrast yellow and high-contrast white — for changed colour vision
• Full left- and right-side support throughout
• A one-tap progress report (PDF) you can email straight to your therapist or orthoptist — so they can see how you're getting on between appointments
• Practise in your own language — 20 of them, including the first vision-rehab exercises in Welsh and Twi
• Adjustable spatial audio (off, subtle or prominent) for sound sensitivity or hyperacusis
• Works on iPhone and iPad

No accounts and no sign-up. Nothing you do is collected or sent to us — everything stays on your device. Progress reports go through your own email app, so your information stays yours.

A wellness tool, not a medical device

Stroke Sight is here to support your daily practice. It doesn't diagnose, treat or cure any condition, and it isn't a substitute for professional care. Please keep following the advice of your orthoptist, neuro-optometrist, occupational therapist or stroke rehabilitation team.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.45 — 2026-08-22

Exercise names now appear in English in every language — Anchor & Scan, Visual Search Grid and the rest are product names, so they now match the guides, the website and support in every locale. Everything else stays fully translated.

### 1.0.44 — 2026-08-19

Stroke Sight now speaks Dutch. The whole app is translated — all nine exercises, the onboarding, the settings and the PDF progress report — which brings it to twenty languages.

### 1.0.43 — 2026-08-16

Your Progress and your report now compare your affected side with your seeing side. An accuracy score cannot tell those apart — catching almost everything on one side and almost nothing on the other can produce the same percentage as being evenly a little slow, and until now nothing in the app could see the difference. Anchor & Scan and Peripheral Flicker now record which side each target was on, and how long each side took, and the two are shown separately. Nothing appears until two rounds have measured enough on both sides. Also fixed: a missed flicker was supposed to play a sound from the direction you missed it in, and never did.

### 1.0.41 — 2026-08-15

Your progress report is redesigned: a summary your clinician can read at a glance — including your condition and affected side — charts with labelled axes for accuracy and reaction time, your first-week average as a baseline, and every number explained in plain words. Also new: adjustable text size for menus and buttons, backup and restore of your data, and a one-tap way to report a problem. If you're updating from an earlier version, this also brings the previous release: the new Scrolling Text reading exercise and fairer, more accurate scoring throughout.

### 1.0.40 — 2026-08-14

Clearer guidance in every language: the app now describes what practice can achieve more carefully, adds driving and eye-care advice to About and your PDF report, and corrects the direction described in one neglect exercise's feedback. Plus: the app now tracks your real practice minutes each day, and several exercises have been tuned to match rehabilitation practice more closely. New exercise: Scrolling Text — words stream across the screen in your reading direction; catch the target word for sustained reading practice.
