### 2/5 — Great Tool; Paid for Liftime

*2023-12-07, version 10.1.1*

I’m a developer too. I understand the work that goes into these apps. I’m just not a big fan of subscription based apps. I’ve been using this since it was the Multi-year Weight Training System. I’ve enjoyed it. But I did pay for the the top tier in the beginning to avoid all of the constant taxes of subscriptions.

### 3/5 — Annoyed

*2022-10-25*

I paid for the “lifetime” upgrade years ago. This used to be my favorite app. I recommended it to anyone looking for a weight tracking app.

I was annoyed to log in and it told me that in order to use my programs I have already saved and used tons of times I now have to sub to the app.

So I won’t be using the app anymore.

**Developer response:** If you have an old phone running iOS 10 or below you can download the old app version and continue using that one. Ongoing app updates, feature additions, app maintenance, and support necessitates using a subscription model.

### 2/5 — Update after subscription model - Best lifting / programming app out there

*2022-10-07*

Update: Im a programmer, I get how much work goes into, not just creating software, but keeping it up to-date with ever changing APIs and UI themes. Not to mention adding new features. But changing the rules on already purchased features kinda rankles me. I’ve been using this app since 2014 and the features and protocols I’ve bought over the years are now useless (at the time it was a once purchased always purchased). Even with that I’d have still subscribed, because, yeah it takes time to build apps and time is money. But man… you gotta look at the competition before setting prices. I can get a life time of the StrongLifts app for what you charge for a year. Yeah it doesn’t have all the features you have (yet) but it gets updated monthly. Old review because it still applies (old ranking was 5-stars): I've spent way too much money on workout / lifting apps, looking for the perfect one. And while I still haven't found the perfect one, this one is the best so far! The key things this app offers are: 1) metrics; why track your lifts if you don't use that data to figure out what works for you. This app is the best at presenting workout data! 2)Programming; its best to go into the gym already knowing what you are going to do. This app isn't to bad at this, I particularly like the auto loading and de-loading for mass or reps. 3) technique; the bar tracking feature is nice for visualizing my form. I would like to see the programming aspect evolve a bit more, but overall this is the best option on the market!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. To clarify the changes specifically in your case, when we moved to a subscription model I started adding things to the app that you never paid for and I didn't put up any additional paywalls for you either. No new paywalls for you wasn't because your initial standalone purchase granted access. It was because itemized paywalls for some and blanket subscriptions for others was too messy to maintain as more and more features were added. However, those subscribers are exactly the reason why the app got new features, updates, periodic maintenance, and so on. We all owe those guys and girls for their support. Without those subscribers the app would have been a one-time release like the default iOS Calculator app (which is the kind of app you paid for). With the new app changes in policy we don't have one group who gets everything for free anymore at the expense of those paying for it. We're all on the same page as of version 10.

As for Stronglifts, you're not going to use that for life so they'll happily sell you a lifetime purchase. On the other hand, I want you to keep using Strongur year after year and low cost, one-time purchases are exactly what created the issue you have in the first place.

### 2/5 — What happened ???

*2022-10-06*

It’s not a problem to pay for quality but the interface and data disappeared!

Will it come back if I pay?

Well it WAS good! Now where to even start? I mean I know the answer is start by paying money but the interface is now so unintuitive that I don’t want to pay for it if the preview is accurate. Why are people constantly messing up perfectly good tools? So I uninstalled and reinstalled hoping it was a glitch or something… well now it wants to restore from backup but there is no backup…. So now it is stuck doing nothing!!! Why?! I just want to lift! Ah good ol’ money… ruined another nice thing

**Developer response:** Can you clarify what data has "disappeared"? No data has been removed. The layout has just grouped similar and complimentary types of data. I suppose you had gotten used to where things were before and the changes disrupted that. That's understandable. But the specific locations of items didn't really follow a coherent structure.

### 2/5 — Subscription?

*2022-09-29, version 10.0.1*

Updated this great app, now it’s requesting a subscription from out of nowhere? Can someone confirm this?

### 4/5 — Strength index update error

*2021-08-03, version 9.5.5*

There’s a bug that’s not updating my one rep maxes or strength index

### 4/5 — Best Apple Watch weightlifting app

*2021-05-31*

Best Apple Watch app for weightlifting fast and easy to use main app is less user friendly but works well and synchronises easily when you get used to using it

### 4/5 — Great app w/ a few bugs & terrible Watch integration

*2020-10-21*

Trying to switch between the phone app & watch app during a workout is extremely buggy and causes some sets to get dropped, adding a new set will “clone” the previous set and changing anything on one will affect the other, etc.

Other bugs in the phone app are minuscule but getting the watch integration to be more seamlessly with the phone app would make this a 5+ star app.

**Developer response:** Try using the spontaneous workouts mode.

### 4/5 — Working well so far

*2020-06-04, version 9.5.5*

Enjoying the app so far. Debating on making the switch from Strong. Can we get a fix on the copy paste for workout logging. That’s the only issue I’ve had so far.

### 3/5 — Good but iOS updates make it unusable

*2019-10-09, version 9.5.2*

Usually works well but major updates to iOS really make this app unusable until this app is updated

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not going past 2025

*2026-01-23, version 10.1.1*

Great app but no updates

### 1/5 — Meh

*2024-04-28, version 10.1.1*

Mandatory account creation but doesn’t support iOS passwords. We all have appathy nowadays. Step up your game.

### 1/5 — Great once upon a time

*2023-10-21*

The app hasn’t been updated in 9 months. Where are the subscription monies going. Once upon a time this was the best app out there. The subscription ruined it. There’s a place to upload workouts and share with the community but you can only use them if you subscribe. Missed opportunity. The marketplace of workout programs could have been great!

### 1/5 — Lost lifetime subscription with v10

*2022-10-23*

Had a lifetime access to Phases I to V but could not recover it since version 10 of this app. Quite desappointing. What could I do ?

**Developer response:** If you have an old phone running iOS 10 or below you can download the old app version and continue using that one. Ongoing app updates, feature additions, app maintenance, and support necessitates using a subscription model.

### 1/5 — Money grabbing update

*2022-10-14*

With the last update I can’t even use workouts I already made without paying!!!! I can’t even export them for free and there was no warning. Despicable money grabbing move, useless app now, it’s getting uninstalled
Edit after developer’s reply: as a user my expectation is to be warned of changes this big and to be able to export my existing programs - at least the ones I made, as a one off.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support! As an app user, your expectations are for the app to be maintained and updated so you can continue to use it, as well as to receive timely technical support in the event you need assistance. As an app developer, the expectations are for users to support the app if they would like to continue using it.

Edit: Tap the calendar icon on the top right of the dashboard and look up your workouts you want to export. You can export by email after you bring them up. Not sure if that's what you meant by export but that's what we've got. If you meant export, as in uploading so someone else can use your program, you can still do that without a subscription.

### 1/5 — Awful! Now they force you to Pay!!!

*2022-09-30*

I’ve been using the free version of the app to follow a mad cow 5x5 program.
It’s great because it would allow me to set up the program and follow it, and the app would adjust my weight load for the next weeks workout based on current performance.
But since updating the app last night. I open it this morning and I don’t have access to my program. It’s saying I need to subscribe.
So Strongur will only allow you to log your workout now. No other features of my current program work.
I’ll be looking for a different app now.
And no way I’ll be paying £100 a year for the privilege of this app!

**Developer response:** Hi Matt. I see you mentioned that it's been great using the app. If so, please consider supporting the app. Development time isn't free, as nice as that would be. You're only asked for a couple dollars. Not even enough to pay a minimum wage worker for an hour of work.

### 1/5 — Money hungry

*2022-09-29, version 10.0.0*

The developer hasnt updated the app in 2 years. When they finally did update the app they made it where i have to do a ton of extra work or subscribe to use the workout plan i ALREADY purchased from them back when it was multi-year. Dont waste your time with this app. Its great for short term use, but there is no respect for long term customers.

### 1/5 — Need a subscription to log your own workout

*2022-09-28, version 10.0.0*

App was great, but newest update prompts you to subscribe to load and run a workout you’ve written yourself….

### 1/5 — Can’t logi n

*2020-06-20, version 9.5.5*

The app lets me do a password reset, but because I can’t remember my username, it won’t let me login. And there’s no way to find out the username associated with my email address, which means I can’t use the app. And that makes it useless.

### 1/5 — Best Lifting Tracker App

*2020-03-24, version 9.5.5*

Strongur has everything you need to track your lifting journey. Developer continues to routinely Improve it. You can’t go wrong with this tracker app!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Left in the dark.

*2022-10-14*

I love this app and could not imagine working out without it. Now it is a paid subscription when it has always been free. I can’t use it to workout until I come up with $100. Totally blindsided by this but I gotta come up with the cash because it’s that good. Could have given me a heads up. Will have to use something else till I get the cash.

### 5/5 — v10 broke the app

*2022-09-28, version 10.0.0*

Best app ever, for sure.
v10 has broken this unfortunately.
Neuro Efficiency chart crashes the app and now the app can't be used at all.
Been using it every day for the past 5 years but today will be the first time I won't be able to use it.
A reboot of the iPhone didn't solve this.

### 5/5 — 多会有中文版

*2022-03-22*

多会有中文版

### 5/5 — Dead?

*2021-03-14, version 9.5.5*

Good app. I liked a lot but appears to be dead. No updates or recent logs in forum. Too bad.

### 5/5 — The best by far

*2021-03-09*

This is the best training app out there. Period. The rest are an embarrassment in comparison.

This app needs more attention from the masses so we can get even more functionality out of it. It’s already leaps and bounds ahead of the others, so it’s a waste that the others get use while this one is ignored.

### 5/5 — Best weights focussed app

*2020-10-08*

By far the most comprehensive strength/ bodybuilding app I have used. The paid version I think is a must for beginner/ intermediate lifters. Once you and the app have worked out your one rep maxes, the programme takes over, varies full body workouts, splits, heavy loads, higher volume, from day to day and week to week. Deloads everything and It’ll tell you when you’re ready to move on to a a new phase. If you like graphs and the science its all there too. Stuff you’d need an excel spreadsheet and hours and hours for. No thanks I’ll just let the app take care of everything.

### 5/5 — Amazing app easy to make gains with.

*2020-03-18, version 9.5.5*

As a 25 year Isolde with multiple injuries to work through this app has allow me to adjust at my own pace in an extraordinarily efficient manner.

Thanks I appreciate this app.

### 5/5 — Comprehensive and Complete

*2019-10-20*

This app does everything one could want from a strength training app. It is comprehensive, complete, easy to use, and reliable. Get it. Use it. Get stronger and healthier.

I bought the extras for this app after a month or so, and will say this: the extras weren't just worth the price to get... they were worth buying the iPhone to get.

### 5/5 — The best training app period

*2019-09-27, version 9.5.2*

While very sophisticated, it’s all behind the scenes, very user friendly and customizable.
Definitely not your typical workout app, lots of science behind this app

### 5/5 — I rarely review apps, but when I do...

*2019-06-01*

...it’s for apps like this, that have demonstrated a long track record of performance, consistent improvement, and being genuinely value-added to one’s training lifestyle (whichever philosophy that might be). Whenever I feel lost in my training, I just go back to this app, take a hard look at my weak points, and go work on ‘em. Whenever I had a question to the developer, he was always there to answer. While there’s a budding community that’s uploading their own training programs, I find the app’s own multi-year phased-based program to be the best.
