## What is Study Latin and Greek?

SPQR is the ultimate learning tool for Latin and Classical Greek students who want to immerse themselves in the language, presenting dozens of Latin and Greek texts with English translations, a grammar tester, flashcards, quiz, numeral converter, quotes of ancient wisdom, language learning tools and more.

Here are just some of the features:

- Full, fast and searchable copy of the Lewis & Short Latin lexicon for Latin students, and the Liddell, Scott & Jones Greek-English lexicon for Greek students, with all definitions searched as you type.

- Parse any Latin word to English, regardless of conjugation - includes full breakdown of the word's form. For Greek students, search in Greek or English, or use betacode if you prefer.

- Full copies of classic Latin texts, including the Gallic War and Civil War by Julius Caesar, Res Gestae by Augustus, the Twelve Caesars by Suetonius, the Amores by Ovid, the poems of Catullus, the Aeneid, Georgicon and Eclogues by Virgil, Pliny the Elder and Younger, the Metamorphoses by Apuleius, five landmark speeches by Cicero (including In Verrem!), plus Horace, Juvenal, Vitruvius and more!

- Full copies of Classical Greek texts, including The Iliad and the Odyssey, Economics, Metaphysics, Politics, and Rhetoric by Aristotle, Laws and The Republic by Plato, The Histories by Herodotus, Agamemnon, Prometheus Bound, and The Eumenides by Aeschylus, Ajax, Antigone, and Electra by Sophocles, plus Aristophanes, Euclid, Euripides, Hesiod and more.

- Most of our texts come with parallel English translations, which means you can be reading Caesar's original Latin description of his battles in Gaul, then tap a button and jump to an English translation exactly where you left off - flip between languages to check your translation as often as you want!

- Students can use the built-in grammar test to check their skill at Latin conjugation; teachers can use the new exam mode to generate tests for classes in seconds.

- When you find a new word, use SPQR's flashcards system to practice your vocabulary as you learn. Alternatively, use one of the many built-in flashcard decks for both Latin and Greek.

- Four Latin-English games are included to build your vocabulary: 7 Latin Words, Latin Hangman, Latin Word Search, and Latin Pairs. Plus, our built-in classics quiz has over 4000 questions on the ancient world to test your knowledge, split across four difficulty levels.

- Full copies of Allen & Greenough's New Latin Grammar, Fabulae Faciles, The Comic Latin Grammar , and Edward Gibbon's epic work The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire.

- Dozens of quotes from ancient Roman and Greek sources, along with English translations.

- PLUS: take advantage of the integrated Roman numeral converter, experience Caesar's Gallic War in word-for-word mode, try your hand at the Sortes Virgilianae, delve into Greek mythology, and more.

SPQR is the app no serious classical student should be without! It's free to try, but you can choose to subscribe for $14.99 annually, renewing every year until cancelled.

Note: SPQR is designed for Latin and Classical/Attic Greek students – the dialect used by Aristophanes, Plato, and more. It is *not* designed for Biblical Greek, which uses the Koine dialect, but if that's something you'd like to see added please email us.

### 5/5 — Question

*2026-06-25*

Is there any difference between just using the app and subscribing to it ? It seems all resources are free (not that it’s a bad thing) I was just curious as I didn’t see any difference after taking a subscription. And really lovely app!

### 5/5 — Worth it

*2026-05-23*

This app is excellent. It’s worth the subscription cost if you want to be able to read and/or study Latin and Greek on the go.

### 5/5 — Awesome all-in-one Latin study tool!

*2026-03-11, version 1.3*

Fantastic app with a great variety of classical authors and even some Latin grammar guides preloaded onto it! I have particularly enjoyed the flashcard function, which allows you to create custom decks of cards for on-the-go learning and consolidation. The games are entertaining and a nice diversion, as is the homepage with Latin (and Greek) phrases to flick through. The customer service is excellent: quick and helpful. If you’re serious about your Latin, this app is absolutely worth the money.

### 3/5 — Greek not well supported

*2025-12-18, version 1.3*

The Greek component is only text and a dictionary. All the rest is Latin - which in itself is very good. Disappointing that the Greek is not complete.

### 5/5 — Every day!

*2025-11-28*

I use this every day and like when I put in a verb for example a chart with all the forms appears.

### 5/5 — THE scholar’s app

*2025-10-18*

Used SPQR and Greek app for ~15 yrs. 7 Words is worth price of admission. I’ve bugged the developer (sorry, Paul) for AGES to bring 7 Words back. So happy!

### 1/5 — The way of the subscription…

*2025-07-03*

I remember when this app was a one off purchase, which I was happy to pay for, as the app is great. What a shame to now turn it into a subscription.

**Developer response:** Adding a subscription option allows us to support SPQR for the long term, which we hope benefits everyone. However, we do have a separate version of the app available for people who want a one-time purchase – look for SPQR Education Edition and you'll find it.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2025-04-01*

I loved the original apps and am stoked they put the Greek and Latin into one. The old SPQR app would crash when I selected an author and wasn’t sure if they would fix it or make another one. The English to Latin/Greek translations of these classics is so incredible. It is surprisingly hard to get the original texts in Latin or Greek especially in a palatable easy to navigate format optimized for learning. The app now charges a recurring annual fee of like $15 which is insanely reasonable considering what you get and makes sense from their position. I’d much prefer to pay regularly so there’s incentive to maintain and update the app. Last thing is some authors/books still don’t have an English Translation like Heracles by Euripides as an example. It is a longer story but one of personal interest that would be amazing to have the English available to switch to for reference. All in all very happy and will be recommending to many

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2025-03-23*

My grandfather loved Latin. I love Harry Potter.

I have been picking up Latin again to learn the spells and make new ones.

Been using Duolingo for the last 17 days (perfect streak). And now Paul released this new update for his Latin app after so many years! I love this!

I really wanted to start reading the Twelve Caesars from Suetonious. Because I remember loving it in high school. Now I can!

Please add a way to see both the translation and original text on the same screen. That would help me learn Latin while reading Suetonius!
