## What is StudyTrace?

StudyTrace is an iPhone app for research studies that collect participant-reported and device-based data with informed consent.

Participants can join a study using a secure link or QR code provided by their research team. Once enrolled, StudyTrace can collect the data streams enabled for that study, such as background location, survey responses, and device-usage signals. The app can also send reminders for scheduled surveys and study updates.

Key features:
  - Secure study enrollment by QR code or HTTPS study URL
  - In-app informed consent flow
  - Background location collection for approved research protocols
  - Experience sampling and survey reminders
  - Optional photo attachments for survey responses
  - Selected-app usage monitoring through Apple Screen Time APIs when enabled by the study
  - Participant withdrawal through in-app study quit controls

StudyTrace is intended for research use. Available features and data collection depend on the study you join and the permissions you grant.
