I found it fiddly to learn but once you master it it’s quite useful. The interface is simple but there are some bugs in moving around and I found myself out at the beginning and not be able to get back to my results without starting a new set. ### 4/5 — A very useful app *2024-04-07, version 6.2* I find SubMOA is very useful to analyze shooting targets. While not really user friendly it does a great job at a price that is well within anyone’s budget (free) I wish someone can tell me what the metric SEC stands for. I know it was added as an analysis metric a year ago but there is no mention of what SEC means. If someone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated. ### 2/5 — Lots of bugs and clunky but free and workable *2023-10-05, version 6.2* It’s a bear to change dates or ammo types or to even put data overlays but it all works in its own buggy clunky way. Lots of potential for improvement. ### 4/5 — Fun Tool for Air Gunners Too! *2023-09-04, version 6.2* The app doesn’t target air gunners, but it can help take friendly competition among air gunners to the next level! It’s both feature rich and cost effective. There is a short learning curve but the fun is worth it. I gave it four stars because of occasional crashes. And it isn’t the most intuitive to use. Watching a couple of YouTube videos pretty much solved most of the user interface issues, although the text boxes don’t always go where you expect them. This seems to be one of the few apps that calculates mean group size - and this is really good data to have; and arguably the most important. The only problems I can’t seem to resolve are (1) the export data - I can’t tell if it did export or where; and (2) exporting the picture doesn’t seem to work. It indicates that the image has been copied to the “camera roll”. iOS doesn’t have a camera roll, and the image isn’t to be found in the photo app/album. I waffled on giving the app 4 stars, but not being able to export the image is a pretty big deal. ### 4/5 — SubMOA free. I have one issue. When I go to use the ruler, where ever I try and place my X, the red X appears much lower than my intended spot. Same goes with marking the circles in the target. I hover the green circle over the hole in the target, but the red circle drops much lower than I need it to be. After that it is crash city. If it doesnt crash it never shows the green anchor needed to properly setup a target to be analyzed. It is like the program is offset from the picture. Problem in iPhone and iPad. The UI is not intuitive, however, once you get used to it, it is functional albeit a little painful. Finally got a target picture loaded and couldn’t add all of the bullet holes because it would stop running and send me back to my home screen. Great app that does what others do, but for a cost. Enjoy the app. ### 5/5 — Outstanding *2024-06-25, version 6.2* Common guys, cut the man some slack :) Its free and it does one thing well I was doing this by bringing em into CAD And scaling and dimensioning I decided that was madness and installed a few apps I was trying to do in federals ballistic deal for like 15 min and pulled this up and was done in 2 Take a picture w your camera of a target and import it and tap stuff until ya figure it out. If ya screw up, trash it and start over I didnt read a thing. I just knew the picture had to be scaled and i had to pick the centers of the group Its just ruler/+hole/+report Ill figure the rest out later ### 5/5 — Great app for shooters *2023-02-27, version 6.2* This is not a shill review. I’ve been using SubMOA app for years and it does exactly what it should. I’m using it on an iPhone and it works well once you figure out how to manipulate the controls. It’s basic, it’s plain, it works with a little bit of brain power to figure it out. Many thanks to the developer for providing such a good tool, I can’t imagine how many hours has gone into developing and maintaining this. Check out Sultan Aiko’s delightful YouTube video “How to use the SUBMOA App” and all will become clear. While I wouldn’t mind paying the 15$ for its venerable competitor, I don’t want to have to log in to use that app or pay a subscription fee to be able to have multiple groups on one target and get mean radius results. Display comments / sticky notes ### 5/5 — Great *2020-12-10, version 5.0* Might be a bit tricky to figure out but great app. And yes it does calculate group size and analyze poi. ### 5/5 — After a few days of getting frustrated… *2020-06-14, version 4.8* I'm using this app on an iPad. 1st- I could only get it to work in PORTRAIT Mode. 2nd- When trying good use the "ruler" if the RED Xs don't match up with where you had the GREEN cross hair, enlarge your target and it will put the RED X exactly where you have the GREEN cross hair, then set your dimension and use the GREEN cross hair to set your "Aim Point". 3rd- Once you have the 2nd step perfect, getting the "SHOT" placement should be right on. It took me many "trial and error" hours to get this all figured out but then found that the app is actually pretty good. Too bad their instructions are so unclear and sparse. ### 5/5 — Hard to use *2020-01-15, version 4.8* Had a quick play around with the app, reading the user manual it’s not the easiest app to use. It’s not intuitive to use as such. Perhaps I’ve just not delved deep enough into it. There is scope for this to be a great app, but for a download and go sort of app it takes a bit more understanding than it allows. ***UPDATE*** After fiddling around with it a bit, I’ve figured it out and it’s fantastic! Once you’ve selected a reference size using the ruler icon and selected the two points but zooming right in on the picture it sets perfectly. If you have the bullet diameter set also it’ll give you the correct size holes. All you need to do is be zoomed in all the way to add points, and it’s flawless!
