Update: Oh, look. Ratings reset. This developer has clearly decided to double down rather than simply honor what he said he would do.

This originally released as a free app and then had in-app purchases added later. This isn’t really an issue in itself; developers have to make money, but many developers grandfather their early adopters as a gesture of gratitude for testing and rating their apps.

And in fact, this developer indicated in email that they were working to ensure that the new pricing structure would only affect new users going forward, and this would be included in an upcoming release. Well, when the latest version dropped, not only did that NOT happen, but the pricing indicated that there was “new Black Friday pricing” available, but it was the EXACT PRICING FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION, not lower Black Friday pricing. That’s too many red flags. Stay away from this shady developer.

Response from developer

The black friday pricing is lower then the actual pricing on the lifetime subscription, if you are not able to see the pricing after updating the app to 1.1.1 version then please do reach out through the support.

Don’t trust this developer

Never trust developers who will not support their customers.

When a developer introduces a new app free of charge and keeps it that way for a period of time, using early adopters as beta-testing pawns, basically letting them do some marketing for them for free and hoping to score visibility and reviews, and then introduces fees for ALL, instead of only for new users, that is one shady business.

When questioned, the developer of this app promised a solution to ensure the newly introduced pricing would affect new users moving forward. However, two weeks have gone by, and nothing has been done. Based on customers’ inquiries, it now appears they have no intention of making good on their promise. They will argue the price is reasonable for what the app offers. But the issue here is not about the price; it’s about honesty… about principles.
