## What is Subtext?

Sides at 9pm. Tape by Thursday. And nobody free to read with you.

Subtext runs the scene out loud at any hour. Every other part is performed, not recited, and it listens while you say yours.

Then, when the tape matters, a real person reads with you. Text a friend a link and their voice is on every take.

Drop in the script and Subtext lifts out every scene in seconds, and works out who says what.

When it's time to shoot, film it, cut it, and send it without ever leaving the app.

Then you book it. Now it's the whole script, not six pages, and the work changes. Script Analysis reads all of it and answers what you ask: what the show or film is about, what your character wants, what's actually going on in a scene. Have all your lines highlighted instantly. Create notes, add tabs, scribble stuff. Bring the script to set or the rehearsal hall and hold it in your hands with Rehearse Mode. The iPhone and iPad will no longer change orientation, and you can turn pages with focused gestures.

Want to hear the whole script? Press play on Table Read and the whole thing performs itself, every character, out loud. Listen on the drive in, on a jog, or doing the dishes.

The whole job. One app.

RUN LINES WITH A SCENE PARTNER
Drop in your sides and pick your character. Real voices read every other part and wait for you. Cue only, hide your lines, get a hint when you go up. Run it until it's yours.

MEMORIZE FASTER
Hide, hint, repeat. Subtext listens for your line and only moves on when you've said it. Off book without a friend, a Zoom, or Voice Memos.

A REAL READER ON YOUR TAPE
When you need a real reader, to rehearse or to shoot your self-tape, text a friend a link. They record the other lines in their browser, once, whenever suits them. Nothing for them to install. Their real voice is on every take, at any hour, without either of you scheduling a thing.

NEXT LEVEL SELF-TAPES
A self-tape studio built for the job. Shoot with a built-in teleprompter that follows your voice. Add your slate. Then edit with an editor designed explicitly for self-tapes. Pick your takes, adjust the start and end, add transitions, clean up the audio. Have an iPad too? iPhone films while the iPad prompts and cuts.

SEND A LINK
Subtext compresses the file perfectly, hosts your finished tape and hands you one short link. Casting or your agent presses play or download. Nothing to upload, nothing too big to send.

SCRIPT ANALYSIS
A clear summary of what you're playing, then ask it anything. It knows when it's only holding sides, so it tells you what it can't know instead of inventing it. Highlight every character you're playing instantly, mark up every page with notes, tabs and support for Apple Pencil.

HEAR THE WHOLE SCRIPT
Table Read: press play and hear the entire script performed in real voices. On the train, on the walk, wherever.

RECORD PROFESSIONAL VOICEOVERS
Record voiceovers scene by scene, straight off the script. Studio-clean sound with no knobs to learn then export to MP3.

WHERE WE STAND
The voices are for rehearsal. A synthetic voice will never end up on your finished self-tape, at any tier. When it counts, a person reads with you. Your scripts and your voice are never used to train any model.

THE WHOLE JOB. ONE APP.
One membership does all of it with all your data synced between devices.

### 5/5 — Great tool for actors

*2026-08-24, version 3.1.3*

Uploading sides and scripts to rehearse is very intuitive, and it’s been incredibly helpful for memorizing lines in a pinch. Highly recommend !

### 5/5 — The best I’ve used

*2026-08-18, version 3.0.7*

Subtext is a real game-changer for working actors. Created by a working actor to specifically cater to our wants and needs. I’m off-book faster and more confident on stage where it really matters. With a responsible and ethical approach to AI and by far the gold standard in support, I’m a happier actor.

### 5/5 — Best app for actors, period!!

*2026-07-31, version 2.4.1*

This is truly the best app for us actors. Wow. So well done, bravo. 👏🏼

### 5/5 — About time

*2026-07-10, version 2.2.4*

I hate AI, but this is a tool that can help sharpen you as an actor, so you can be an actor, not the other way around.

### 3.1.5 — 2026-08-25

Run lines on a walk
Rehearsal used to stop the moment you left the app. Now it keeps going with the screen off, so you can run a scene on the way to the audition. Your partner reads, the mic still hears you, and the lock screen shows whose line is up. Squeeze your AirPods to hold when a line won't come. Put the phone in your pocket and forget about it, and rehearsal pauses itself and holds your place.

Take a monologue beat by beat
Long speeches can now break automatically into units. Work one passage at a time. Swipe back to run the section again. This one is for all my Shakespearean actors out there. ;)

We also squashed some bugs and tweaked some of the design. Enjoy!
