## What is Subway Now?

Subway Now (formerly The Weekendest) is the ultimate companion app to ride the NYC Subway. Simply open it to see all nearby arrival times in zero taps, and go!

Subway Now is the first and only realtime New York City Subway map app:
- Track live train locations
- Check train arrival times across nearby stations
- View current subway service pattern on a map, instead of what is "scheduled" for a typical weekday
- Track your train's estimated arrival time and connection times right on your Lock Screen*
- Check connection times before you arrive at your transfer station
- Departure time and service status Widgets for your Home Screen or Lock Screen
- Get the most accurate train arrival predictions

From the Press:
"With one tap, [Subway Now] identifies your location and current travel options... look ahead to transfers. Service Changes are in view as part of the complete picture of possible rides." - PIX11 News

"Several voices on Twitter pointed out that a digital MTA map, arguably superior, already exists. At a transportation conference in Brooklyn last year Sunny Ng unveiled an open-source creation he calls The Weekendest — a riff on the name of the MTA’s previous service-change map, called The Weekender." - Bloomberg CityLab

"To go beyond the MTA service alerts, you need to look at headways, which is the time between trains on a line. I can use [Subway Now] to easily see where the trains are bunching or slowing due to issues and plan accordingly." - VICE Motherboard

From our users:
"Your app has seriously improved my knowledge of the subway system by getting me to do more of my own routing. It’s like using a multiplication table instead of a calculator."
"Because of this app, I had the information needed to hustle to my train or make a connecting transfer, before a gap in service."
"MTA has planned weekend and night service and this helped me find an easy way home."
"Being able to see exactly where your train is minute by minute is unbeatable."
"Nothing else comes close to reliable realtime information for the subway, not even the station display boards."

Additional Features:
- Our own data-driven service alerts, delay detection, integrated with MTA official alerts
- Save favorite subway stations for easy access
- Customizable Trip Arrival alerts, be notified when your train is about to arrive*
- Light mode/dark mode support
- Station accessibility notices, and accessibility station filter
- Optimized for intermittent offline viewing (you know how it is underground)
- iOS 26 support
- No ads!

* Background Trip Tracker and Trip Arrival Alerts require paid subscription add-on

### 5/5 — this is a great app

*2025-11-06*

nobody does it better. the haptics are a little excessive in my opinion and I would appreciate an option to turn them off

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. You can already turn off haptic feedback by tapping the Menu ("...") Button, then tap Settings, and scrolling down to the "Haptic feedback on update" toggle under "Map Settings."

### 5/5 — Best subway map by far

*2025-10-02*

This could be better than the MTA app it self. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

### 5/5 — The best app for *accurate* subway tracking

*2025-09-23*

No other app so consistently shows proper weekend and overnight reroutes and random service disruptions. It always knows how the trains are ACTUALLY running.

My favorite feature is being able to see upcoming train departures at any station relative to the train I’m already on. So I can decide where to transfer or IF to transfer, especially when I’m in a rush.

### 5/5 — perfect

*2025-08-21*

out of any app i’ve tried, this one gives the most useful information about nyc subways the quickest.

### 1/5 — How it started vs now

*2025-04-28*

This app is no better than google maps at this point. Regularly behind schedule by 1-2’ which is everything when trains run once every 10-15’ in the early morning. What was once a saving grace is now an unreliable menace. I’ve been using this app for about a year and can honestly say you’re better off just winging it

**Developer response:** Hey, thanks for the feedback, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve found the app’s data to be less than reliable. I would like to work with you to investigate how to do better. If you don’t mind, please send me an email at ios@theweekendest.com on where you’ve noticed this.

### 5/5 — Outperforms every other transit app for New York

*2025-03-23*

I cannot stress how useful this app has been when I’m trying to figure out when trains are actually going to make it to the station! The MTA app, Citymapper and google maps pale in comparison in terms of accuracy!

### 5/5 — The top transit app out there

*2024-10-31*

I’ve been waiting for this app for a while, and its finally here, an app that does everything. It covers all the essentials, accurate timing, useful map, and quick to reference. But my favorite feature has to be the transfer estimate which always has me taking the quickest combination of trains. Love it

### 5/5 — One of the best NYC subway maps

*2024-08-17*

I love to see where the train is located. Would be cool if they make a NYC bus app maybe one day. I’m hopeful. You guys made a better app than the MTA themselves not gonna lie.

### 5/5 — Makes riding the subway so much better!

*2024-08-02*

Being able to see exactly where your train is minute by minute is unbeatable. I know of no other app that can do the same thing, and the subscription fee is minimal.

### 5/5 — Transit Warrior’s Dream

*2024-07-27*

Tasks that would take about 50 taps between multiple apps now take 1! Bravo Sunny. Excited for future updates!
