This type of logical puzzle was first seen in the Japan Puzzle Championship 2006 and is sometimes known as Doppelblock, or Smashed Sums. When played with pencil and paper, these puzzles can be hard work to solve. Sumaddle changes that by adding the essential element of interaction. This transforms the puzzles into intriguing brain teasers that unfold before your eyes.

Each puzzle has a unique solution. Finding the solution involves fitting the number combinations to the clues. The app makes it easy to view the possible combinations, you don’t need to do any sums in your head. Instead, you can focus on using logic to narrow down the combinations and find a fitting arrangement.

• puzzles range in size and difficulty from small and simple to large and mind-blowing

• more than 150 puzzles are included for free

### 3/5 — Fun game but it kind of solves itself

*2025-09-07, version 1.64.2*

The game itself is fun! It could be a nice challenge and a great brain teaser, if it didn’t give you all the answers.

When you click a box to fill it, it shows all the number options you can choose inside that box. The issue is when you have already used that number in the row or column, it takes that number out the box and only shows available numbers. After you solve a few numbers, it pretty much has the puzzle solved for you. I don’t want a hint unless I have trouble solving the puzzle but you get one with every box. There is no way to turn this off. I messaged support to ask if I was just missing a setting and they confirmed it can’t be turned off.

Because you can use as many hints as you need, this function just feels kind of in the way and for no reason. With the 5x5 puzzles when you figure out 1 or 2 boxes, the game gives you the rest of the answers. There is still a good challenge to the 7x7 ones if you can ignore the hints! I’m kind of forcing myself to ignore the hints but then my adhd kicks in and I can’t help but notice, and it just kind of is annoying.

If it weren’t for that this would probably be my favorite number puzzle game! I considered paying for the extra puzzles when I finish the free ones but I just can’t pay for it to just give me the answers.

If this doesn’t bother you then you will find this game fun for sure!!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2025-08-21, version 1.64.2*

I wish there were be more game like this!

### 5/5 — Excellent logic game. Clean design.

*2025-05-22, version 1.64.0*

I love a good logic game, and this is my new favourite. Fair prices too. No ads or other rubbish.

### 5/5 — Brilliant puzzle game

*2025-04-26, version 1.63.0*

So satisfying, like Sudoku, like Wordle, like Codewords, like Betweenle, I love these puzzles!

### 5/5 — obsessive

*2025-04-22, version 1.63.0*

i play this game obsessively! it’s somewhat difficult to learn at first, but once you understand how to solve the puzzles, it’s addicting. you can toggle the size and difficulty of the random puzzles, or you can try their packs for a few bucks—i’ve gotten every single one. plus, it’s available offline, so it’s a perfect airplane game. one of my all time favorites!!!

### 5/5 — Honestly great

*2025-03-05, version 1.62.1*

This became one of my go to games! Very well made and can really make you think.

### 5/5 — Best Puzzle Game I’ve Ever Played

*2025-01-31, version 1.61.1*

I really enjoy puzzle games. Very few games force me to think outside the box though. That is, until I stumbled upon this gem.

I honestly don’t think there’s a single flaw in this game. It’s such a simple idea, that was executed so incredibly well. Easy to learn, hard to master. I like to believe I’m pretty good at this game, and routinely play higher difficulty levels. However, unlike most games, this one always manages to stump me again and again.

I highly recommend anyone who enjoys the free puzzles to purchase the puzzle generator. It’s super customizable, to make it as easy or as hard as you want and you’ll never run out of puzzles to solve.

Shame on you developer for making such an addicting game!! Jokes aside, I wish we had more masterpieces like this.

### 4/5 — Fun game but please let us clear puzzles without reset all!!

*2025-01-22, version 1.61.1*

So I enjoy this game a lot, the concept is fun and it’s a good mental workout, the app works well, no obnoxious ads which is rare these days, and I have purchased several puzzle packs and have fun going through them! I have 4 sets of the scary level puzzles, and one feature I wish this app had would be the ability to go back and clear/reset only certain puzzle sets or individual puzzles. Sometimes I solve a few puzzles using hints, and I wish we could see which ones we’ve solved with hints and have the option to clear those and try again, without having to use the “reset all” button. I’ve played through the first pack of the scary level puzzles WAY too often because I wanted to play through some of my purchased packs again. I’m sure other people out there want to play their purchased puzzles more than once without having to clear and replay the sample puzzles again.

If you can add this feature so we can clear certain puzzles after completing them to try them again, I’d rate 5 stars!!! Part of the fun is seeing if you can improve your scores/times, but having to clear all 4 sets of puzzles when there are maybe 6 I wanted to retry can be a hassle, since the game automatically tries to make me play them in order when using the next puzzle button.

### 5/5 — Favorite game on iOS

*2024-11-13, version 1.60.1*

I love puzzle games and frequently download ones I find to see how they are. Usually, I end up deleting the apps after about a week or two because they are really clunky or have an abundance of ad pop ups. Not only are these puzzles really fun and engaging, but the design of the app is top tier. It is probably the sleekest app I have on my phone/iPad…. Easy interface and great hint system with explanations for the really difficult puzzles. Just a fantastic app all around.

### 4/5 — Has a pay wall

*2024-10-18, version 1.60.1*

Fun game without ads but you only get a certain number of puzzles before you hit a paywall and it’s $9.99 to continue. I mean, it makes sense if they aren’t making money through ads so they still get a good review. But I finished them all in one day fyi

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.9.0 — 2026-08-23

A new lighting option for playing in complete darkness and a small refinement to the red filter. The changes in detail:

• A new “extra dark” look has been added to the lighting settings for when dark mode is active on the device. This form of look has been designed for play in complete darkness.

• When the new extra-dark look is selected, it is also possible to choose the fill effect that is used for painting the blocks of a puzzle. This can help to keep glare to a minimum and make it easier to recognize the blocks in the low-lighting conditions.

• Small adjustments have been made to the other forms of appearance too. In particular, the dark look has darker blocks and certain elements are less bright.

• The red filter level can be adjusted in much finer steps.

### 2.8.0 — 2026-08-03

This version includes some upgraded puzzle packs and various small improvements. The changes in detail:

• Many of the puzzles in the Scary puzzle pack category have been replaced with new puzzles that reflect the difficulty ratings more accurately. This applies to puzzles in the Assorted and Very Difficult packs, as well as the free selection. Players who already played the puzzles in these packs can now enjoy playing all the new puzzles at no extra cost.

• When a group of squares is selected using a drag gesture, any gaps in the same row or column are automatically filled, if possible. This works the same way as when a clue value is tapped, so blocks are added automatically if the number of empty squares exactly matches the number of missing blocks, or empty squares are populated with candidate values if two blocks are already present.

• When a group of squares is selected using a drag gesture, the combinations for the corresponding row or column are always shown automatically, even if no combinations were already showing.

• Fine tuning to the way the puzzle generator determines the difficulty of a new puzzle when running in Advanced and Expert play modes.

• The setting that allowed the puzzle generator to use permutation logic with “no limits” has been dropped. This used to be a way of generating more difficult puzzles, but the puzzle generator is now capable of generating very difficult puzzles without needing to resort to such measures. Puzzles that involved elaborate permutation checks were usually not much fun to solve anyway.

• More improvements to help explanations.

• Styling change to the panel showing the points scored for a completed puzzle. This panel now looks more like a button (iOS 26 and above). Tapping the panel is a quick way to view the leaderboard - this has always been the case, but until now it was less apparent that the panel is tappable.

### 2.7.1 — 2026-06-26

Ready for iOS 27! This version addresses a usability issue when running with iOS 27 and includes some other small fixes. The main changes:

• The spotlight buttons react faster to the initial touch when running with iOS 27.

• A layout issue has been resolved when viewing the leaderboards on an iPhone in landscape orientation.

• An issue with jittery scrolling has been resolved when viewing the performance analysis for the puzzle generator on an iPhone in landscape orientation.

Version 2.7.1 is a further minor update that includes an improvement to the way the help works when used for a puzzle with pencil markings. This version also addresses a possible cause of some occasional crashes.

### 2.7.0 — 2026-06-17

Ready for iOS 27! This version addresses a usability issue when running with iOS 27 and includes some other small fixes. The main changes:

• The spotlight buttons react faster to the initial touch when running with iOS 27.

• A layout issue has been resolved when viewing the leaderboards on an iPhone in landscape orientation.

• An issue with jittery scrolling has been resolved when viewing the performance analysis for the puzzle generator on an iPhone in landscape orientation.

### 2.6.1 — 2026-05-11

This version features some usability improvements and styling adaptions. The changes in detail:

• Each clue of a puzzle is now shown as having the shape of a button. This makes it more apparent that the clue values are also buttons. The shapes also help to indicate that a button is available, even when a clue value is hidden (in this case, the button can be used to fill gaps in the associated row or column).

• The new button shapes for clue values can be turned off in the settings, if preferred. The setting can be found in the section “Layout & Appearance” under the heading “Puzzle clues”.

• When the setting to “allow combinations to be deleted individually” is turned on, the clue value that is currently selected is shown highlighted with an underscore. This makes it possible to see, which clue the combinations relate to. This is of particular significance when there are multiple clues with the same value.

• A usability issue concerning the panel with number combinations has been addressed. This panel sometimes overlaps the button for pausing a button, especially if playing on a small screen. Previously, this meant it was quite easy to tap the pause button by accident when trying to delete individual number combinations. An invisible buffer zone around the panel now stops this from happening (the panel is simply hidden instead).

• The red filter is supported more comprehensively. It now works for all forms of popup interaction too.

• The settings popup features some styling adaptions for iOS 26.

Version 2.6.1 also includes some corrections to the way help actions are performed.
