I’ve been comparing this app to using a workflow i made: export transcript > OpenAI API summarize > Apple Notes and then export as .md file to Obsidian. I think this app is reasonably priced. I don’t use it enough to warrant paying the monthly subscription, but there is a very generous free trier which you can boost with referrals (more apps should do this, great growth strategy). The thing i appreciate most is the developer is clearly passionate about not locking in user data. The export options are perfect (.md, PDFs). Things to improve: 1. If there was a way to automatically export finished transcripts to my iCloud files where my obsidian vault is, that would be chef’s kiss. 2. One thing i found very fun to use, but doesn’t seem to be updated often is the “Popular” tab. Would love to see that updated more and perhaps tailored to my interests. 3. I’d happily pay a flat fee to use the app but bring my own API keys. Then i can choose the latest models and control the output better - currently there’s no way of seeing what model the developer is using. 4. Somehow, I’ve stumbled across Summarify and can’t believe how well it works! Also, the subscription price is pretty reasonable compared to other mobile or web apps. I highly recommend trying out the free version, which provides a few free summaries. I was sold on the app after the first two summaries. Kind regards Andy :) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — sudden drop in quality and accuracy *2026-06-17* I gave it a video that came with a an official transcript and tried four different ways of summarizing it, and every approach gave back a nonsensical summary with incomplete sentences, duplicated words, imaginary time codes, and other nonsense. I had to resort to another service to get a clean, usable summary. I suspect they've fallen back to using the cheapest, least competent models to save costs now that the AI companies are charging more. I definitely regret paying for an annual subscription, but in my defense, two months ago when I first tested this app it summarized every video perfectly. Cheers Andy :) ### 1/5 — Dissatisfaction with Summarify App *2023-06-22* Dear Summarify Support Team, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with my recent experience using the Summarify app. I had high hopes for this tool as a means of conveniently summarizing lengthy texts, but my encounter with it has left me utterly dissatisfied. To my disbelief, after just one paragraph of summarization, the app abruptly halted and demanded that I upgrade to the pro version in order to access the full functionality. This is not only inconvenient but also misleading. Nowhere during the initial setup or usage was I informed that the free version has such severe limitations. It is absurd that users are lured in with the promise of a helpful summarization tool, only to be held hostage by an unexpected paywall. Moreover, to add insult to injury, the one paragraph I received was riddled with inaccuracies. How can I trust the credibility of a tool that fails to provide accurate and reliable information even in its limited output? It is disheartening to see such a fundamental flaw in an app that claims to enhance productivity and efficiency. I strongly believe that users should be given the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of the app before deciding to invest in the pro version. The current strategy employed by Summarify feels misleading, deceptive, and ultimately undermines user trust. I implore you to reconsider your approach to the free version and provide a more transparent experience for your users. The provision of a more comprehensive trial or a fairer system of limitations would greatly contribute to restoring confidence in Summarify as a reputable summarization tool. Regrettably, based on my encounter with the app, I cannot in good conscience recommend Summarify to others. I hope that you take my feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to enhance user experience and restore faith in your product. **Developer response:** Hi, Firstly thanks for your thorough and thoughtful feedback. I'm still working out the best approach for the free version of the app, as the it uses ChatGPT for summaries each summary request cost money, currently due to the limitations of the AI videos have to be broken into chunks around 10mins each and then summarised, each chunk is a new request and cost money, this is why the free tier currently only supports “1 chunk” before stopping. However now that I have more data on API costs and your feedback I’ll update the app ASAP so free users can get complete summaries for any length of video. I am working on another update that will improve summaries for larger videos and be able to summarise videos of 40mins or more before chunking. Additionally for the free tier currently, users get 25 free summaries when they first install the app and then additional summaries each week, which I believe is fair given the cost of the API. As far as the inaccuracies the app relies on the transcripts being accurate as well as the AI interpreting the summaries correctly, often YouTube will automatically generate transcripts for YouTube videos and these are not always accurate. Regards Andy ### 2/5 — This gives the false impression that this is a functional app.? *2024-11-30* One of the most inefficient apps of this type that I have tried! Although according to the stated functionality it should be one of the first in the top, in fact it rather has signs of scam. The only summarization section with time stamps is "bullet points", and these stamps are not active, you have to scroll through the video yourself. **Developer response:** Hi. This app is not a scam, currently bullet points is the only summary type that reliably generates time stamps, I had to temporarily remove time stamps because ChatGPT does not reliably produce and it tends to bend over backwards to make the summary fit the time stamp instead of creating a time stamp for a summary, this results in a less reliable/useful summary. So I choose to temporarily remove time stamps from most summary types to improve the quality of the summaries until I can fix this. Time stamps are such a tiny feature of this app, I was not trying to mislead anyone, I’m always working on improvements so hopefully they will come back soon. What would bring up the star-rating would be a working app on Mac, where I need it the most. Even after following the steps in the error message popup (prompting a login to YouTube via Safari), it still won't allow summarizing via the Mac app. Otherwise outstanding! =) ### 3/5 — Was ok before others popped up *2024-06-16* This was amazing when it first popped up. So I went ahead and subscribed for one month and cancelled immediately and I’m looking for an app that provides what you did provide before. Your app is worth 5 stars minus 2 because of that. App and get it down to two or three minutes and almost more importantly I have notes they can refer back to in the future.
