### 3/5 — Came for the films…

*2026-01-25, version 11.1.1*

Can’t see much! Waitlisted for three films so far but haven’t gotten into ANYTHING! Very disappointing to have come from Delaware and can’t get in.

I was fortunate enough to get into Redford Legacy Environmental Panel and that was fabulous, but I was there two hours in advance to secure a spot.

There has been a lot of waisted time.

### 2/5 — 2026 Login problem

*2025-10-22, version 10.0.0*

Entered my username and password after setting up website account for 2026 festival. Not working.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2025-01-29, version 10.0.0*

Much worse than last year, longer load times, difficult to navigate, waitlist is incredibly frustrating to operate now, and now a glitch where every movie has tickets available, but not able to purchase them. While this bug is happening unable to join waitlist for any movie. Very bad experience.

### 1/5 — Once again very disappointing

*2025-01-28, version 10.0.0*

Why does it have to be a different system for the waitlist every year? The new bring a companion feature was confusing and not well explained. Signing up for the waitlist was extremely frustrating. It was very glitchy and lots of buffering.

### 1/5 — Navigation is useless

*2025-01-26, version 10.0.0*

With no physical maps or way to navigate you’re constantly having to look at your phone but unfortunately you cannot search any of the houses a.k.a. the Disney house, Acura house of energy the Adobe house as they are not actual places. You can search the theaters, but good luck, trying to find any of the other venues.

### 1/5 — Very disappointed in the ‘25 app

*2025-01-25, version 10.0.0*

Very dissatisfied with the app experience this year. First, the movies weren’t populating, only the programming like the morning meditations, panels, and all of the other experiences other than the movies were showing in the schedule. I kept navigating around trying to find out the why, navigated back and somehow the movies were there. I have no idea how. But spent an hour on that part.

Now the waitlist process is presenting a problem. I tried to waitlist three movies to see with my partner. In years past, we were able to link our accounts and get on a waitlist in sequential order. This year, I tried to join a waitlist and it asks if I want to add a companion. I did but our waitlist order was 30-50 spots apart. I assume when I first clicked to join the waitlist that it snagged my spot and while it was asking if I wanted to add a companion it kept accepting other people who got in line between us. Not a great system. What’s the point of the process like that if we’re going to be 50 spots apart? From past experience, there’s no way both of us would make it in.

Lastly, for the third movie we wanted to see today via the waitlist, the waitlist didn’t show up on my app until 3 minutes after it opened. We ended up being in spots 100 and 149.

This is really disappointing. These are basic functionalities of an app for an event like this and they all broke down.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2025-01-17, version 10.0.0*

The “schedule” includes zero actual films right now. The filters are awful (end time for filtering is 8:30 pm but many films start after that). How does this stuff make it through and online without being tested and vetted.

### 1/5 — Tickets sold out one minute after opening them.

*2025-01-16, version 10.0.0*

Booked flights, hotels and other travel accommodations and one week prior to event, tickets go on sale (that’s a problem in itself) and sell out in one minute, and all other bookings can’t be cancelled. Something is wrong with this system. Very disappointing.

### 2/5 — Lacks key functionality

*2024-02-04, version 8.1*

I enjoyed seeing a Sundance movie in SLC. Good people and a great buzz. Thank you. Some issues:
1. The app and website do not always execute the main tasks like telling me the theater location,
selling me a ticket, and waitlisting me.
a. FYI, I used an iPhone 15 Pro Max with the most recent version of iOS and of the Sundance app to see movies in person.
2. If I tap the movie in the app, then the app should give me the address with one click or tap. To most people, “Redstone Cinema 8” means nothing. Is that Park City? SLC?
3. The app needs a filter for location of in-person films. If the movie is in another city, I may not get
there in time. If there is bad weather in Park City, I may not want to go there.
4. In the app, when selecting a movie, let me filter out movies that were already shown.
5. On the website, I chose the single film ticket for one person for $30. I clicked “select screening”. I
chose “It’s What’s Inside” for 20 January at 9:30 pm and clicked Select Film. The website went back to the select screening page! It just could not sell me a ticket. I kept trying for hours.
6. The waitlist process has undisclosed information and is mindlessly complex.
a. A helpful employee at the Gateway Megaplex cinema explained the waitlist process and saved the day, allowing me to see a Sundance movie.
b. The waitlist process was so complex that the Megaplex had a printed poster to explain it.
c. Update the app to put me on the waitlist with one tap, generate a QR code, and show my position in line such as #14!
d. Tip: the QR code lets you put some text in the middle of a QR code. So, you can put the number “14” in the middle of a QR code.
7. After the film, Sundance emailed me a link to review the movie, but the link did not work. Fix the
review link!
8. In the app, let me delete notifications. For example, to remove events that do not interest me or that already happened.
9. Forr 2025, please start now to deliver an app that honors the creative arts and respects the
customer by making each function work well and testing it. Most cinemas and conferences deliver an app that works. Consider paying a company that develops conference apps.

### 2/5 — Worse than before

*2024-01-23, version 8.1*

App has less functionality and is more difficult than prior years. Would be very nice to get more functionality around bus schedules in particular.

### 2/5 — Sundance Trustee

*2024-01-23*

Im sad to say the tech for the iPhone app is way below par. Do not cut back on the paper program because it has worked wonderfully forever. The Fest is almost impossible to navigate without it. What a foolish way to try to save a tiny bit of money. So unnecessary and such a loss.

This iPhone and iPad app, was a nightmare for me. Plus none of the tech team could fix it. Anne Grennan changed my password because I was having problems, but then I would get email notices to vote, but it wouldn’t allow me in. It would say my device didn’t coordinate with my password. I was so upset. I couldn’t vote the whole time.

I wrote the Help team three times and heard back once, but they didn’t fix it. I tried and tried with Anne but it didn’t work. I still haven’t been able to vote. It is very upsetting.

It is also upsetting that we are paying more for online film passes and have fewer days to watch within. This not how to be successful, first of all, it has to work, second of all, you can’t take away from from what customers like and are used to. You can’t possibly save enough money to make any of this worth.

I’m sorry to complain, I know you work hard, but these are important to fix to bring us back to par. Thanks so much. LL

### 2/5 — Stop creating new apps every year

*2024-01-21, version 8.1*

The app experience continues to be a struggle at Sundance. Rather than creating new apps each year, put the energy into fixing this one. Problems this year:
- no linking of waitlists, which makes waitlisting a movie very problematic. The vast majority of attendees do not go alone. Without the linking of accounts, this means it’s far more likely that one or both cannot get in
- it shouldn’t be so hard to find what screenings have tickets available. Display whether there are tickets in the schedule
- consider using notifications to indicate tickets available if I have shows or screenings that I’ve favorited. I spend SO much time refreshing and checking to see if tix are available. Such a waste of time.
- fix the performance issues during the event! Maybe the burden on the app is so high due to the poor design and inability to easily see when tix are available, but the app often is far too slow during the festival

### 1/5 — Super unstable

*2024-01-21, version 8.1*

Always buffering and even the words are blanked out while I’m typing this

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2024-01-20, version 8.1*

I’ve been to Sundance for 15 years and not once has technology been figured out. The waitlist process went from “sometimes works” to “doesn’t work at all”…. It’s a huge step backwards

### 1/5 — Very glitchy and can’t join a waitlist this year!

*2024-01-20, version 8.1*

I’ve used the Sundance app in previous years to join waitlists for shows but this year the “join waitlist” functionality is not working in the app for me. I’m on an iPhone 12 and iOS 17 and the popup to confirm payment info for a waitlist opens but then disappears before I can click / confirm/ take the join waitlist action. Major bummer! Hope they fix this issue…

### 1/5 — 2024 App is awful

*2024-01-20, version 8.1*

The Wait List function on last year’s version was incredible. It’s so disappointing that they changed it, because it doesn’t work at all for 2024.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Robert Redford died with this app

*2026-04-01, version 11.1.1*

This app is a joke. I signed up for this app and it just crashes. It won’t even let me login. What’s the point of a Sundance Film Festival 2026 a app to watch independent movies and doesn’t even work. Robert Redford died along with this app.

### 1/5 — Terrible as usual

*2026-01-29, version 11.1.1*

Every year is different and bad. The screenings listing have improved but the waitlisting (which is where you need it the most) is terrible again and somehow even worse than last year. I don’t the programmers actually do real test runs to see how it works

### 1/5 — Can’t get past the agreement screen

*2026-01-25, version 11.1.1*

I logged in, then I’m taken to a user agreement screen, and at the bottom the only option is to “go back”

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-01-25, version 11.1.1*

This app has crashed countless times, it’s inaccurate, inconsistent, and has cost me seeing films three times now. It’s only day 3!!! What an utter disaster.

### 1/5 — Not easy or helpful for wait lists

*2026-01-24, version 11.1.1*

I have tried n paid for a waitlist pass but still does not work.

### 1/5 — Consistently Terrible

*2026-01-24, version 11.1.1*

This app is consistently terrible. Each year I hope for improvements and each year I am disappointed. It is difficult to navigate. Adding a film to your favorites doesn't add its showtimes to your schedule. Because the app is so clunky, I had to go on the website to add everything to my schedule, which was an incredibly tedious process. But now the worst part is that the app inexplicably has logged me out due to inactivity, despite having been quite active, and now I'm getting an error message every time I try to log back in, rendering it useless. I've submitted a ticket for this issue but do not have faith it will actually get fixed.

### 1/5 — Not working properly

*2026-01-23, version 11.1.1*

This app hasn’t worked once for me. If I wasn’t here with friends I would never get into or know about anything. It doesn’t load until 5 minutes after everyone else around me has (some of whom have the same phone service as me) and everything is sold out by the time it does.

I’ve checked for updates. I’m super bummed but hopeful it will get better in the last two days I’m here.

### 1/5 — App sucks

*2026-01-22, version 11.1.1*

App crashes and doesn’t load

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2025-02-02, version 10.0.0*

Very difficult to navigate. Many, many issues that prevent screenings to occur. What a waste of money buying online passes.

### 1/5 — another year, another disappointing app

*2025-02-01, version 10.0.0*

So complicated to navigate, Chat is useless, no information about online start times, no response to emails this year-not even one. I literally can't play my movies because I am receiving a "failed to play" message on one of my televisions and I can't get a response from Sundance. Also, the amount of changes and extra cost for such limited online offerings is just greedy. And last year, a few of the movies were on Netflix and other streaming services in the following weeks. Come on. Make things accessible and fair and keep up with the times with a navigable and responsive app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Festival Companion

*2026-06-22, version 11.1.1*

Great to have during the festival to navigate the program, access tickets and event information.

### 5/5 — Great first time Sundancers!

*2025-02-03, version 10.0.0*

Our only problem was when we initially started ordering our tickets. There was a glitch and we got 4 instead of two, but that was resolved immediately. We loved the way we could favorite films and they showed up on our schedule in order. It was easy to call u our tickets. We didn’t have many opportunities to try the waitlist. Now if only Chicago International Film Festival would try collaborating to have an app like this.

### 5/5 — Nice 2024 App

*2024-01-26, version 8.1*

Great app with 2024 Festival information. Can get tickets, maos, and vote.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2024-01-26, version 8.1*

I like this app! It’s easy to use. Really enjoy the film festival!

### 5/5 — App out early and love it!

*2019-01-22, version 7.1*

App out early—includes all venues—love it! Very useful and fun! This year I must say I’ve really enjoyed the app. Wishes I’d ask from a fairy godmother -wish I could see “tickets available,” or will I see that later? Would also love to be able to share specific screening dates times venues along with notes by text and email. Brava and THANKS!

### 5/5 — Like this App

*2019-01-21, version 7.1*

This app has been helpful so far. I was getting familiar with it in Florida. I hope that it works as well in Utah at the Sundance Film Festival 2019.

### 5/5 — Schedule flaws

*2019-01-15, version 7.0*

The schedule no longer has a way to filer press and industry screenings (to my knowledge). Huge oversight considering many working professionals at the festival use this...

### 5/5 — Works great

*2019-01-13, version 7.0*

The 2019 app seems to work great so far. A very convenient way to check out the program!

### 5/5 — Kept Crashing - unusable

*2018-01-28, version 6.1*

This app would not work unless you were in strong wifi and the Sundance WiFi could not handle it. It kept telling me that I had no internet even though I was connected. It also wouldn’t work with WiFi off and just using data. And even if i could get it up, it just kept crashing after a few secs. So unfortunately I could not use it, which was extremely frustrating as I wanted to get on the waitlist a couple times and could not!

### 5/5 — User Friendly

*2018-01-21, version 6.1*

Interface is good looking and have had zero problems. Put together great too
