WHAT IS MINDFUL DRINKING?

Put simply, it’s all about thinking while drinking. Mindful drinking is not about quitting alcohol but instead being aware of how much alcohol you’re drinking and its impact on you in the moment.

SCIENCE-BACKED FOR LASTING CHANGE

Reviewed and backed by an advisory board of medical and habit change experts, Sunnyside uses techniques such as pre-commitment and conscious interference to gradually help you reframe your relationship to alcohol without interrupting your day-to-day lifestyle.

NO GUILT OR PRESSURE TO QUIT

Our nonjudgmental approach will make you feel welcome and appreciated. Your goals around alcohol are personal–not all or nothing–and we tailor your experience appropriately. We never pressure you to be sober or quit drinking.

HOW IT WORKS

 • Set your personal goals around alcohol
Your experience starts with a short, anonymous survey that only takes about 3 minutes. We gather some information about your drinking habits, your goals, and your intentions. This helps us personalize your experience to help you reframe your relationship to alcohol.

 • Commit to a weekly alcohol plan
Every week we give you a recommended drink plan for the week ahead that will help you reach your personal goals. It’s always gradual and you can always adjust it.

 • Track your drinks
Via a simple interface in-app (or via text message), we make alcohol tracking easy, and provide nudges to help you stay on target.

 • Get daily motivation
We’ll deliver upbeat and positive education, motivation, tips, and tricks to keep you on track every day of the week. We focus on mindfulness and moderation, not going sober.

 • Text real human coaches
Our team of real human coaches are available for you, no matter what you need. Text them anonymously to receive a helpful nudge at any time. Or don’t. We never force you to interact with our coaches.

 • Interact with the community
Our new community feature lets you connect with others in the community around a shared daily prompt that helps you stay positive and mindful every day. It’s the perfect way to support those around you and get a bit of support and validation for yourself.

 • Measure your progress
Watch and measure how your new habits add up to better sleep, money saved, and an improved diet in your personal dashboard.

### 5/5 — Great Customer Service

*2026-08-11, version 1.95.0*

The app is really cool. It wasn’t something I felt like I could use at the time but would recommend. I was charged the membership fee without being aware and when I reached out to Customer Service, they refunded me completely!

### 1/5 — Downloader Beware!

*2026-08-09, version 1.95.0*

I wish I had read some of the reviews here beforehand.

I deleted the app shortly after downloading because I couldn't afford a subscription. Thought that would be the end of it, but nope! For weeks after I was spammed with texts asking why I didn't complete my account, with one representative going as far as to sign me up for a "free trial" without my consent. Texting "STOP" to these messages didn't work, and even after going on their website to delete the account I am still recieving texts and emails advertising a medication I have absolutley zero interest in taking. Ridiculous.

These pushy marketing tactics are not only annoying but also distinctly predatory. Do better.

### 1/5 — Bad Business Model

*2026-08-08, version 1.95.0*

I had used this app a while back and they had a monthly subscription option—fairly priced and worth it to try out for a bit. Their new business model is not cool to only offer a $99 yearly subscription or a $299 premium yearly subscription…especially when I saw a reply on a previous review offering someone a monthly option if they email them directly. If that is someone you offer, it seems almost predatory to make the only options yearly subscriptions and after a trial goes to the MOST EXPENSIVE option. 😥

Now they have a free trial that I, and I admit should have paid more attention, just found out after doing the trial turns automatically into a $299 yearly subscription. I didn’t cancel the trial in time but thought it was the monthly plan it used to be, then got a notice from my bank of a declined transaction of $299. I immediately cancelled the subscription and contacted the app developers right away. Because it was through the app store they cannot do anything about it. Now because I do not have $300 in my account and cannot afford to deposit that much to be taken out and wait for Apple to refund me…which after waiting for the transaction to get out of pending status and then issue a refund (which the Apple rep did offer me) could end up totaling 7+ business days (so potentially 9+ actual days)…I am essentially locked out of using my Apple account to download even free apps until I can afford to have that money come out of my account.

People struggling with substance use are not all rich. While part of this is apple’s system in which they cannot reverse a pending charge…I can’t help but think how this is a largely inconsiderate business model. If you want to help people, I suggest allowing them to pay for your app by the month or even quarter in an upfront manner. And if you really cannot offer that, at least have it default after a trial to the $99 yearly option. Yall have to know people forget to unsubscribe to free trials…and after receiving 36 text messages from yall in a 8 day period, during which I had to opt out once…still kept getting messages, then opt out a second time for them to finally stop…a simple reminder text that your free trial is expiring and you will be charged $299 maybe would have been a nice feature.

Unfortunately when you have to choose between paying $299 for an app or paying you legally required car insurance or rent to not be evicted, you have to choose those actual necessities. So I guess hopefully in 3-4 weeks when I can manage to have $299 held up for 7-9 days I can finally do things like download free apps on my phone…

It really bothers me that you offer people who are upset about your costs options to do a monthly subscription, but not the decency to offer it people who want to try your app and instead leave the option be to default to $299 yearly models. This has put me in a tough spot.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2026-07-29*

Sunnyside gives you a nonjudgmental platform to help control your drinking journey. You have daily accountability for goals that you set with support from a community or a coach if needed or wanted. It was exactly what I needed when I began 3 years ago. Sunnyside improved the quality of my life.

### 5/5 — Cut back

*2026-07-29, version 1.94.0*

I’ve been able to cut my drinking probably by 75% since using Sunnyside and naltrexone

### 5/5 — Amazing resource

*2026-07-21, version 1.94.0*

This is the only app that has actually helped me get results and stick to my plan to drink less. Thank you SS!

### 5/5 — Nannyberry

*2026-07-11, version 1.93.0*

When I first started, Sunnyside, I was averaging about 2 1/2 drinks a day on holidays. Now my every day drink total is between four and seven drinks per week. I get excited about the challenge of skipping drink days. And now when I report on Dry days, I get a huge degree of satisfaction. I no longer feel like I have to drink every day. But I do enjoy my glass of wine with dinner or a margarita in the evening. I recommend Sunnyside for people who really need to just “knock it off” but don’t want to quit completely!!🙏

### 1/5 — Impossible to unsubscribe

*2026-06-01, version 1.90.0*

Do not join this program ! While it was useful for a few months a few years ago, it has been impossible to get rid of them. First I couldn’t cancel my paid membership until my renewal date so I paid for services I wasn’t using. And they continue to send spam texts selling medication I neither want nor need. No matter how I block and report them the sales spam continues to arrive. I can only conclude that this is a fraudulent grift and if you actually need help controlling your drinking you are better off going elsewhere for support.

### 5/5 — Alcohol

*2026-05-18, version 1.90.0*

I do not drink any alcohol and quit smoking in 1992.

### 1/5 — Leave me alone!

*2026-05-09, version 1.89.0*

I quit the account, deleted the app, begged them to lose my details and I still receive daily harassment from Sunnyside. Sure, you can quit alcohol, but apparently, there is no way to quit this app or their daily SMS.
