It has only connected to my DAW successfully once. Thank you! ### 5/5 — One of the best synth apps ever *2025-03-01* I’ve had this app since the day it was released. It is still my favorite synth app on iPad and iPhone. It’s so wonderful and intuitive that every time I use it it makes me smile. I’ve used it in many live gigs and just playing around. I have at least 115 or so audio iOS apps. They are all paid apps and I have also beta tested many apps since 2011. This app has never let me down. Using a midi controller or just the screen, it always comes through and has never crashed on me. Also, you can tweak everything so much and there are so many wonderful audio packs for this. This app will always be in my top five apps and whenever I meet someone who is getting into iOS audio production this is on my top 10 list of must have apps. It has been around for a very long time and they still update it, which is amazing. Beep Street is a fantastic company and everything they release is tops. Plus, they don’t screw around with overpriced subscriptions. Even if they had a subscription app, I’m sure it would be insanely affordable. Warm, rich ‘90s sounds… for pads on iOS, there’s still nothing else like it. Really wish it'd work with my DAW/ DP11. Maybe someday? I have a mac m1 and a mac studio and it won't work for either. ### 1/5 — Was A beauty...now LOCKS GarageBand into endless loop. *2022-10-02, version 4.30* October 2022: Made the mistake of starting to use this again - the various smaller issues previously mentioned - for which I left my rating at 5 stars, mark you - now pale into insignificance. I dared to put three instances of Sunrizer into a song, hadn’t used it in ages. Something seized up when I exited (ie ‘saved’) inside GB song editor, then no matter a restart, flicking GB completely off, etc, the only way I could get GarageBand back, was by going into Files, and deleting the offending GB file. Or, as I found, deleting the three entries of Sunrizer Audio Unit inside the song. A real shame - love this synth but now it’s literally making me concerned what might happen. Also, I lost the MIDI pattern unless I now go into ‘Files’ app and copy the offending song, then go in and move the MIDI to another (non-problematic) Audio Unit synth, and that would save it. The cycle it locked me into in GB was endless, until I deleted all instances of Sunrizer Audio Unit, is the takeaway. One star for locking GarageBand into an endless loop. If they fix this, I will happily re-review. OLDER… August 8th 2021…contact not found on server if i try that, so here’s hoping this dev sees this…using with garageband on ipad pro 2, two instances gives massive overloud static sound. Using one instance gives a warning in gb ‘audiounit unloaded - reload or disable?’. Using latest ios 14.7, and latest ipadOS garageband version. It’s great synth, but I cannot use it as things stand! help! Take care all. Note I won’t reduce my five stars as hopefully it’s fixable, sunrizer, I miss you. EDIT - stranger symptoms happened when I persisted and got 5 instances of sunrizer - when the AudioUnit ‘reload’disable’ error came up this time I disabled it, and even knocked GB off totally and rebooted the ipad…but still my midi tracks in sunrizer went silent, at the bar and measure where the error message came up…I literally had to delete bits of midi then undo my deleting of the little sections of midi concerned, to ‘repair’ them! This still might not be sunrizer as such…probably it’s just how GB ‘breaks’ when you load it up to the edge, because the GB memory management on ipad, well, it doesn’t. I had a drummer track and 4 other synth tracks in this song file. This last issue probably is simply ‘the way GB breaks on this occasion’! SEP 22nd 2019... So, AUV3 runs fine now - latest update yesterday - and I have one song I am trying Sunrizer, with 5 instances in GarageBand song (which with anything except built-in keyboards of GB you can’t do usually). It works perfectly well, using the on-screen keyboard, and functions fine but has a small thing that technically does NOT affect making music, when using a USB-Lightning connectored (is that a word?!) keyboard (iRig keys 37 on iPad Pro V2)... In a sentence: Records fine - even at five instances maybe more - but when using external keyboard and running via AUV3, there’s artefacts (clicks and pops) appear when you press the PLAY button etc at the top of the GarageBand screen. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR MUSICALLY, it is ONLY a thing that happens in response to ‘live’ picking on the on-screen play/stop/rewind buttons atop the screen in ‘song’ view in GB. So, I doubt there’s any issue there, that actually affects the stage of say, recording/outputting a ‘master’ track from your multi-track song, because you are not ‘inside’ the song view, to press these on-screen buttons. It’s all done outside, at the GB ‘front’ screen. For that reason, and the fact they’ve addressed the problem to the important MUSICAL extent, I deffo need to leave the five stars. I can’t call them down for an artefact that is fleeting, and for the record, it was when using the ‘big synth strings’ out of the Sunrizer 2 bank...it’s the one that sounds like Bladerunner has, when the air-cars are zooming around! So, it’s got only a slight non-problematic issue, and the great advantage of seemingly being able to have several (like 5 or more?!) tracks or instances, running at a time in a song. Now, that’s a MASSIVE advantage. Out weighs the tiny glitchy bit that afflicts the sound, only when live picking on the play button etc, inside song view of GB. I’ll update if there’s more, I caouldn’t in all fairness knock the programmers for that. Overall, a fine musical instrument, and multiple instances simultaneously, anyone reading this will know how much weight we should give that - a lot. OLDER stuff follows, will be obsolete, largely since this Sep 2019 update... OLDER REVIEWS PRE-SEPTEMBER 2019 This is a great synth, only issue I have is VERY recently thrown up, it is a technical issue to do with the new AUv3 method of connecting through from GarageBand into plug-ins. Any synth could suffer it. I will try and contact the sunrizer people elsewhere, it’s literally a one-off thing arising from the new tech and my keyboard. The older IAA method is perfectly fine, and I assume Audiobus, though I have not used that. OLDER REVIEW still stands, it is a great little synth still 5 stars... Recognisable as a synth, plays like a synth. The only issue seems the business of interactions between apps, which is little to do with this app of itself. Very hard to make standards that developers stick to, or cooperate about perhaps. But Sunrizer as an analogue synth does the arpeggiator and makes the great sonic assault as it ought to be - reminds me I must get it BT’d or wired into my busker amp and blow the roof off sometime soon! ### 1/5 — I cannot use this on iOS9 *2022-06-09* Please refund me payments that I did. Nowadays "eliminating old iOS" way is what I don't like. ### 1/5 — Rather disappointed. Buggy. *2019-12-24, version 4.03* I can’t really hear the raved “warmth” of this synth, at least not in the presets that come with it, they all sound pretty harsh and digital to my ear. Since it’s an old app, maybe it was simply surpassed by other apps? Some presets sounds have slight click/pop at the beginning of the sound when playing polyphony (for example “Sensoramic” preset) and tweaking attack in the amp and filter envelopes does not cure it. A bug where initializing the synth (by choosing “Init” from Synth Tools menu) incorrectly displays the mode when it was loaded after a preset which was in ARP mode. It states that the preset is in POLY mode but it plays an ARP, you need to cycle through the modes to correct it. Completely unreliable and frustrating “chord” function. It takes multiple attempts to store the chord, sometimes the previously stored chord is not updated. Frustrating that the chord gets assigned to one of the keys used when creating it, but it’s kinda random which one. For example, if you press keys C, E and G it will (when you’re lucky!) assign this C Major chord at the C pitch to either C, E or G key! ***Update*** the Chord function works but chords need to be programmed in a way that is NOT described in the manual, otherwise it will not work: follow the steps in the user manual for the chords creation BUT then when you are holding the “Chord” button while depressing keyboard keys to be used in the chord you want to store, FIRST release the “Chord” button THEN the keyboard keys. If you release the keyboard keys before releasing the “Chord” key, the chord will not be stored properly. This is not described in the manual (or maybe developer is not aware of this quirk). No clear indication of LFO assignments. Many synthesizers such as Factory, Helm, etc, provide a visual representation of which parameter is controlled by LFO. In Sunrizer not only is there no such indication but on top of it the names of the parameters are not consistent across the synth. For example, the Filter has a parameter and its knob labeled “Cutoff” but that parameter is named “FLT 1 Freq” in the LFO section, which makes it confusing. More sloppy labeling : “>” is a math symbol, should not be used as anything else, especially in a context of talking about values, frequencies, etc. For example, in the Synth Tools menu one of the tools is labeled as “LFO 1 freq > LFO 2 freq” which is confusing as it should mean “LFO 1 freq is greater than LF0 2 freq”, meanwhile what it means in this app is that LFO 1 freq is supposed to be equal to LFO 2 freq. Well, the sign for this has been “=“ since very long time ago! More confusion and inconsistent labeling, this time it’s even described in the manual: “ When SuperSaw is selected, - Width/Sub knob controls the depth of detune, - Mix/PWM knob controls the volume level of detuned sound.” Except there is no knob labeled “width/sub”. If the knobs control those parameters with this oscillator type, why isn’t it clearly indicated in the knobs’ labels? It should be possible to type in exact values of parameters, sometimes it is critical to dial in exact number, which is not possible by turning the knobs, they are not precise enough. No arrows outside on the panel for quick presets browsing, have to dive into the menu. The pull down menu does not disappear automatically when you touch parameters section, lots of unnecessary touches just to close the menu. The arp controls look promising. Cool BMP input method, it’s very quick to adjust, I’m surprised it’s not used by other apps. ### 1/5 — Crashes my FL Studio *2018-09-29, version 4.01* This IAA Crashes my FL Studio mobile EVERYTIME. Not getting my monies worth at all so far ### 1/5 — Sounds good but crashes when used as IAA in modstep or AUM *2018-06-04, version 3.61* Like the title says, doesn’t work in AUM or ModStep when used as InterApp Audio client. Receiving MIDI as standalone app works, but that is hardly convenient to use in a production or live environment. Please fix or make AUv3 compatible. ### 1/5 — Macht Probleme, Kein Support mehr *2018-04-15* Klingt toll, aber die Technik ist veraltet, sodass viele Störungen in „aktuellen“ Umgebungen (Audiobus 3, AUM, BM3...), auftreten und Sunrizer unbrauchbar macht.
