It cost me $160.00 for a taxi. Notre transfert privé est arrivé en retard en raison d’une erreur d’affectation reconnue par Sunwing. À l’aéroport, plusieurs vols étaient regroupés dans la même file, créant une congestion importante. Malgré notre arrivée dans un délai raisonnable, la confirmation d’un agent que nous étions dans la bonne file et nos démarches pour signaler que notre vol partait bientôt, nous avons manqué notre vol et avons dû acheter un nouveau billet pour rentrer au Canada. Le plus décevant est que Sunwing reconnaît plusieurs des faits, mais refuse toute responsabilité. Heureusement, notre assurance voyage a pris en charge une grande partie des frais. Un conseil payez un peu plus cher et voyagez avec transat ça en vaut vrm la peine ### 1/5 — Avoid Viva Dominicas Palace by Wyndham *2026-03-14, version 5.0.7* Worst resort I have ever been to for several reasons. Food: Even before contracting food poisoning at the buffet I found the food to be lacking. The menu was basically unchanged from day to day with over cooked vegetables and sides and raw, bleeding meat. We were very selective with our choices due to food safety concerns but clearly not careful enough. Spent the last day and a half in bed which really soured the experience. Saw staff with food thermometers but never saw one used. Rooms:no coffee maker in the room (only for premium guests apparently). Mini bar was an empty fridge, not even water or pop even when requested. Told at check in that safe was no charge then tried to charge $15 at checkout. NOTE: Sunwing website states mini fridge stocked daily and safe free of charge (which is where we booked and the info we used) however VIVA website states mini fridge and safe for a charge. Sunwing needs to update their website or stop misrepresenting what is offered. Wifi: service was weak and sporadic. Very time of day dependent. Not unexpected really but don’t use it as a selling point. Beverages: for those who enjoy morning coffee in their room, a walk to the cafe is required to pick up a mini paper cup of coffee or tea to bring back to the room. Otherwise you go to the buffet for coffee which, depending on the time, may or may not be cold. For beer drinkers, one local craft beer available on tap only. If you don’t like it, you’re out of luck. Presidente (most popular Dominican beer brand) is available in the lobby shops or in town for $4-5 USD per can. Service: with one or two exceptions, staff were indifferent to the needs of guests. When missing things in the room (towels, toilet tissue or an umbrella) requests to the desk were noted but not acted upon. Every request required several calls followed by a visit to the lobby. Bags were not picked up at departure despite a request the previous evening. Lifeguards: never saw one!! Lifeguard stations empty and when my partner fell getting out of the water and was swamped by the surf it was another guest that helped us. No staff were present. I guess all the life saving gear in place is self serve? Geese: lovely to look at, roaming freely on the Palace grounds but they will chase you and they bite!!! Other reviews stated the upgrade to Palace side was worth it but I certainly didn’t see the value. The food on the Beach side was better in terms of variety and choice of eateries, more shops and entertainment and better, more spacious beach. Rocks at the edge of the Palace beach make the waves very rough when exiting the water which can be a challenge for children or non-swimmers. On the positive side, our room was clean and beds were comfortable. Beach was beautiful with lots of chairs. No umbrellas or shades but palm trees were plentiful as long as you didn’t mind moving around to chase the sun or shade. Nexus Tours: provided our airport transfers. Airport to hotel was fine..staff courteous and prompt. Return to airport transfer was a no-show requiring a $100 USD cab fare to get there. Guest services at the hotel were helpful in promptly getting us a cab. NOTE: don’t use Nexus for general transfers, private cabs are cheaper. ($151 Nexus vs. $100 for cab to airport) If your flight home is delayed, shared transfers will not change so you will be waiting at the airport much longer or you can “upgrade” to a private transfer for ++ $$… and hope they show up. Sunwing Rep: other than waking us on our first morning to attend a “briefing” we never saw anyone the entire week. They are happy to upsell but not so interested in assisting during your stay. Flights: return flight to Halifax delayed by WestJet multiple times for a total of 5 hrs 28 min. Will compensation be offered to offset costs related to food and water? Surely Sunwing can coordinate with WestJet in these situations to provide at least a bottle of water and a snack for customers who spend 6-9 hours in an airport. Airport wifi is free for 2 hours only so communication after that is difficult when flights are delayed and airport staff were less than helpful. Managing a Sunwing vacation requires three separate apps…Sunwing app for resort info, Nexus app for transfer info and vouchers and airline app for flight updates and check in. They all link to a browser and email so coordinating anything requires many tabs for a single transaction. This is challenging when wifi is spotty and can prove frustrating. So easy to find the reps at the transportation area. I had to call them while I. Mexico and they answered quick and were able to help with some questions.
