The app is poorly implemented. If you add your own cards for memorization. It all goes into a single deck. That is cumbersome and annoying. So, 130+ random cards to go thru at a time. No way to categorize this into different decks. And the text is extremely small. Like 6-8 font size. Micro sized, hard to read. Please contact us at support@supermemo.com - we will do our best to help you. ### 1/5 — Terrible App, Even worst customer support *2020-03-16* I used to love the first version of this app. This version however, is a definite DO NOT DOWNLOAD! Especially in regards to their customer support. If you dare to ask 1 too many questions, they will straight up stop responding to you. I signed up for their Premium service using my hotmail account on the assumption that it’d offer more customization over one’s flash cards....... It didn’t. Now that they know I want to cancel my Premium, they have straight up stopped answering if I contact them. This is a terrible app with even worst customer support. I even warned in my attempts to contact them, that if they didn’t try to help or at least respond to me I would leave a bad review, informing others about their crap service. They didn’t respond because they’d rather keep my “Premium” service money than help a paying customer cancel. Even if that means avoiding calls and emails. So here we are. DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!! **Developer response:** Sir, as the support team have answered and as we answered you below, you have multiple accounts. You have to log in to the right one to cancel your subscription. We can't do it on behalf of the user. Please follow the steps you have received in the email. ### 1/5 — Do not download! *2020-03-09* Not only is this a terrible version of the once great Super Memo 1. Specifically, this one doesn’t enable you to format your cards whatsoever: no color, no highlighting, nothing. But also, if you make the mistake of signing up for “Premium”, they charge you, you don’t get it and the customer service is such crap I’ve contacted them 6 times without 1 helpful answer. I think because they know I want to cancel the Premium they’re just jerking me around until I can’t get a refund. **Developer response:** Sir, as the support team have answered, you have multiple accounts. Please follow the steps you have received in the email. ### 1/5 — Deceptive *2020-02-26, version 1.3.22* This is NOT the original SuperMemo , (which is at super-memo.com) it appears to be an imitation less good. Misleading Also very very expensive at £9/month .. for 5 years uni that’s £500 !! For an average piece of software. (The original software is about £50 for life!) The app was ok just not that enjoyable to use , editing limited. I personally decided on Quizlet App that seems to be much better (and nearly 5x cheaper at £2 a month) ### 1/5 — Poor experience *2020-01-05, version 1.3.20* The developer is really neglecting this software. Support is horrible. Lots of bugs. The online browser version is a joke. Not worth the money. The original app in the 90’s (on Amiga!) was groundbreaking and awesome. Today’s version is dumbed down version that has nothing to do with original Super Memo that got all the awards they mention. Stay away from this. ### 4/5 — Top notch content *2019-12-25, version 1.3.20* Content is Top Notch. I have used both for many years. My biggest gripe with SuperMemo is that it never seems to work seamlessly. I always waste a lot of time with SuperMemo’s bugs, and I think that is largely the reason Anki has become so popular. The biggest bug I have encountered lately is that courses I have purchased online do not register or sync in the app. The app makes it impossible to buy individual courses through the app itself which I think would bypass that problem. I have also found it impossible to log off of my account on my app and try to log back in. I would consider that a bug too. I have tried the monthly plan and things seemed to work “seamlessly.” However, I would rather buy individual courses than pay monthly forever in order to continue with my repetitions. **Developer response:** Thank you for your opinion. Logging out is impossible because it would still have to remove the courses from the device - a similar effect can be achieved by uninstalling the application. ### 1/5 — nightmare *2019-10-04, version 1.3.16* This app is unusable! A pity because I loved the old version and the courses. Want to download courses, it gets to 100% and... it fails. UI is ugly and unintuitive. Lots of bugs. New version of app is supposed to better than old one - not the other way round. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Cannot test it out *2026-06-12* There is no way to test out this app unless you signup for the trial which means you will need to cancel it before being charged. Shame on Apple for allowing this. Also, you have to provide an email address just to find out the above information. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. No longer works while offline. Online makes going through the repetitions slower. 2. No longer respects the user's time zone. The method works well, but I am giving the newest version of the iOS app 1 star because of two negative changes introduced recently. No longer works while offline, slower (online), ignores the user's time zone. ### 1/5 — neue Aktualisierung / nowa aktualizacja *2023-11-23* Ich will die App AB SOFORT OFF LINE nutzen, nutzen können! Ich hatte auto-Aktualisieren ausgemacht; vergeblich- diese hat sich trotzdem aktualisiert….! Damit hat eine sehr wichtige Funktion verloren und ist nur eingeschränkt nutzbar. Es gibt auch keine Möglichkeit, sie zu die alte Version zurückzusetzen. Deswegen nur ein einziger Stern. Sonst hätte es mehr sein können. / Chcę OD ZARAZ używać aplikacji off line! Wyłączyłam wszystkie automatyczne aktualizacje; bezskutecznie - pomimo to ta apka się zaktualizowała…! Opcja offline zostanie udostępniona w ciągu najbliższych 3 miesięcy. ### 1/5 — Don’t use flash card apps that don’t allow export *2023-11-09* I’ve been using SuperMemo for a couple years now. v2.0 introduced some changes that make it significantly worse (soooo slow) for reviewing flash cards, so I’m switching to another service. I have about 2000 flash cards saved in SuperMemo and support let me know there’s no way to export them, so I’m going to have to copy them over manually. If you want to just use the premade courses, go for it, but if you plan to use this flashcard app as a flashcard app, please think twice before putting all your data into a system that won’t let you pull it back out. Learn from my mistakes, it will eventually bite you. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t start? *2023-01-01* Doesn’t seem to start. App is stuck on the launch screen forever on iPhone 13 Pro. ### 1/5 — Rip-off; double bill; can’t cancel subscription *2021-08-06* BEWARE! I downloaded the trial version; used it once; not very good and not worth the money. I canceled the subscription about 10 days before the first billing cycle. However, I was somehow still charged even though the app is not showing up in “my subscriptions” section (when you go to “system” -> your name -> subscriptions). To make matters worse, when I went to my PayPal account to stop the billing from the payment side of the equation, it showed that I was double-billed. (I do not have and have never had 2 separate SuperMemo apps). THIS COMPANY IS BAD NEWS!! Buyer beware! Also, to cancel the subscription is a bizarre process and INTENTIONALLY CONFUSING. Specifically you have to go to the SuperMemo.com site, -> My Learning -> “cancel subscription”; you are given 2 choices, “cancel” and “revoke”. If you choose “cancel”, it cancels your attempt at cancelling the subscription; YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE “REVOKE”. This is an obvious attempt at preventing you from cancelling the subscription. The obvious 2 NONCONFUSING choices should be, “yes, cancel my subscription” and “no, do not cancel my subscription”. Furthermore, if you want to cancel the subscription and be refunded, you have to fill out a “contract withdrawal form”. Again, beware of this company! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Perfect for long term retention *2024-10-19* A fantastic app that I recommend to all my students as a means to memorise material on an ongoing basis. I’ve personally been using it for years. I’ll be mentioning it in the training handbook I’m currently working on. ### 5/5 — Best app for learning languages *2024-09-10* The last few update really improved the app. Thank you so much for bringing the offline mode back. ### 5/5 — Excellent language study app *2023-11-06* Regarding the new app: Please add the option to switch back to the old font, which was perfect. For long periods of study, the new font is hard on the eyes (for example, the horizontal line in "e" is too thin and this slows down reading noticeably). Also, please fix search to allow searching for words containing accented characters. Also, in my opinion, TTS is useless if it ignores all punctuation and spacing. The old Android version is much better in this regard. Finally, I find the new course editor difficult to use because it can't display cards with a lot of text the way the old editor can. I very much hope you will not disable the old version. Overall, the improvements in the new app seem mainly cosmetic. I am looking forward to seeing functional improvements. ***** I'd say that SuperMemo is one of the most useful and versatile language study apps available. Despite the deceptively simple interface, it can take a little while to appreciate all of SuperMemo's features. You won't regret spending the time. You can use it with courses purchased from SuperMemo and/or create your own courses and sync everything across your devices and browsers. Despite the deceptively simple interface, it can take a little while to appreciate all of SuperMemo's features. You won't regret spending the time. Using it to learn is languages and just broaden my vocabulary.
