Very nice app.  A few gripes, though:
1. The stats are a little hard to figure out. I wish they were explained better. 
2. The audio "play" buttons ( in German courses at least) are way too tiny. There's real estate to make them bigger, so why make them so hard to hit. 
3.  I know you can make your own courses and that is great, but takes time. I love the German course content and sure wish there was something similar for Latin. Really? No Latin?  Come'on add Latin please.
4. There seems to be no way to submit suggestions for corrections. There is simply TREMENDOUS content in the German courses, but I have found a few translation errors. I tried submitting these to their website (with difficulty... They have several), but I never got a reply and no correction was ever made. 
5. In the German courses at least, the stupid background artwork (totally useless) only makes reading the example text very difficult. Please provide an option to disable the pointless pictures.

And provides both plenty of existing courses and the extensibility to create your own courses.

Super help with learning. I used it in 98 and now with synchronisation I love it. I build my own course while studying and then it helps me memorise new material.
Some problems while synchronising and they did not support the problem. They said they are working on other platforma right now and cannot give support. Reinstalling the app did help

This app uses methodology far superior to standard flashcard or wrote memory exercises.  Especially useful is the ability to create your own review content.  Program is easily learned and navigated.  Thank you for making information retention so much more efficient and effective!

Despite it's slight learning curve, this program is a brilliant tool that takes the old flash cards model and brings it into our technological age.

Using the scientific model for when a person begins to forget, this program applies an algorithm for when to review your flash cards. When reviewing each flash card one may honestly "tell" the app wether the information was either remembered precisely, almost remembered or not remembered at all. The app uses these responses to decide when to bring up each item for review. And voila, a day or so later when you are about to forget the data, it reminds you again.

This process of reminding you just before you've forgotten causes one to increase his ability to recall it for a longer period, ultimately "installing" it into your long term memory. 

Since each person is different the algorithm adjusts your review schedule based on your honest recall each time. Eventually, you will not be reminded for days, then weeks, months and so on! 

They say that all new technology seems like magic. It is particularly true with SuperMemo!

What a great way to study. I could easily create the flash cards with pertinent information, and the algorithm would load up the set of cards I needed to see each day. I felt like I was able to cover all the material in an efficient way. Now that the bar exam is over, I have not stopped using this. It helps me with work, scripture study, and all other information I would like to commit to memory for the long term. 

It allows you to export the flash cards and back them up. This is easily my most used app.

I have been using Supermemo for a good decade (originally on the Palm) and the iPhone implementation is great. I use it for studying Japanese vocabulary, but for learning and remembering any material, this app can't be best.

Superb app. I couldn't do without it now. I've always struggled with memorization, but SuperMemo has helped me immeasurably. I've used it for years now: first on a Palm, then on an iPAQ, now on an iPod. This is a really nice implementation of the SuperMemo method.

I've been looking for a means to develop my short term memory and this app does just that.  Choose a topic of interest and learn while you strengthen your memory.  It's not a game but rather a tool.

I tried the $5 Spanish photos in-app purchase. What you get is a bunch of low rez screen shots of an old Windows program with to touch interface. Wasted half an hour trying to get the horrible clunky interface to make some sense with no luck. Worst "iOS" download I have tried since iOS 2 - thought junk like this didn't make it into the store anymore.

The potential of the program is undeniable; however, I can't recommend it at this time.  After entering several cards, several of them would show text in the editing mode but not the quiz mode.  This is unacceptable and should be fixed.

I don't know if it is an IOS4 problem or what but Supermemo iPhone is very frustrating. 

I cannot create question/answer pairs because the keyboard hides the Save button. If you try to trick the keyboard into closing it deletes the answers!

If I import from desktop supermemo there are tons of blank flash cards. They ask no question or give no answer - yet they are linked to actual question and answer pairs.  So you are messing up your results if you quiz with these cards. 

It is not intuitive to upload and download quizzes that are created in desktop SM. Can take 30 minutes just to find and configure everything. 

As someone who loves the desktop SM and windows mobile version, I have to report this version is simply unusable.

Learning languages is fine, but what about user defined databases?  There are far more uses for such a great product.  I am a long time user of SuperMemo and would rather PAY for an application that at least came up to old standards.  The old way of creating your own databases was never easy or intuitive.  I spent long hours fighting through the poor instructions and making it work, but did so because of the value - the method works.  The results are amazing.  

I am very frustrated at what seems to be a narrow marketing choice of focusing on pre-packaged language databases (most likely very profitable) and not creating a easy input method for everyone else.

I would give the application method 5 stars and the old Palm application 4 stars (input was really awkward but worth it - still have use my T-3 - don't ask - very embarrassing) and this application, based solely on this one particular limitation, one star.  Sorry.

But I will still wait because of the value.

I'm a longtime fan of the classic SuperMemo for Palm OS (R.I.P.), so I am pleased to see a version has been attempted for iPhone. That is why I'm giving it two stars, equivalent to an "E for effort."

But as noted in other reviews, a bug/design flaw with text entry makes the app unusable for creating personal quizzes. And since all I am interested in using are personal quizzes, the SuperMemo app is useless to me as it is.

It's a real shame, because I think the SuperMemo method is a superior self-drilling method. I really hope this can be fixed.

1. The speed of the app on a 3g is too slow.
2. I'm not here to look at generic clipart
3. The interface should let me review with gestures and big finger motions. 
4. I want to use this while walking; use shouldn't be dependent on looking at screen.

I was user of the Palm version of super memo by Mapletop software. It was a very comprehensive flash card program and it used sophisticated methods to help you memorize words but the best part was you could create your own flashcards easily on your computer and then import them into super memo. Very long lists of words could easily be created and then imported it made it very nice you could create various categories for your words and I found it very useful. It seems as if there is no connection between the Palm SuperMemo and this iPhone or iOS SuperMemo and that seems to be a bit of a loss to me. Something should really be done or made more apparent by them to show us how to make long lists of words easily entered into this program.

The navigation buttons are on top of the sentences and sometimes on top of the audio button. Please make the navigation simpler and continuous. Audio button is slow to respond -- sometimes I have to press the button three or four times before it responds.

Having been a Supermemo addict on the Palm OS, I was glad to finally see it be developed for iOS.  This is a good start, but needs some key improvements soon if it expects to win market share.  First, there is no way I can find to reverse the "question" and "answer" so that you can be tested or study either way.  This is especially useful for languages where you want on some occasions to study from the English definitions to the foreign word, and other times study from the foreign word to its English meaning.  Second, there needs to be a way to change the font size of the index cards; the current size is quite small.  Third, it would be useful (although not essential) if there were an easy way of converting old Palm OS files into a format that could be used in this app.  Alternatively, a desktop software tool that could allow rapid input of large card files would be welcome.

All in all, I'm not quite ready to leave iFlash, which unfortunately lacks the sophistication of Supermemo's repetition algorithm.  I hope the creators of this version make some improvements.

This is close to better than having a native speaker.  Prepare to gobble up vocabulary.  I chewed through 300 Ukrainian verbs like they were popcorn.  Must-have app.

Although Quizlet has an excellent user interface, what really matters for a language learner is what's under the hood. Supermemo's spaced repetition logarithm makes all the difference. The words I learn easily stop appearing in my daily stack so that I can focus on what doesn't stick readily.
The program works best for me with my own content uploaded to the free website account. I've used it to study Spanish, French, German, Latin and history facts.
There IS a learning curve to using the program and the developers really ought to produce some tutorials, but in this case the effort invested gives measurable results that are better than what I've experienced with any other method anywhere!

It is very handy to have all of my questions available on the iPhone. I can memorise whenever I get 5 minutes. Supermemo ensures I only memorise what I am about to forget. Seems to work from what I can tell.   Difficult to create content, so I do it on the PC and then import it.

Using Español Extremo decks (basic and grammer) has greatly improved my Spanish. The recordings have been a great help and I use them most days, but can they be turned off when needed.

the forgetting index and repeats (which can be controlled within the app settings) are what really make this app, and of course all versions of it, stand out. simple interface, trusted software and research. amazing for vocabulary, and any type of self-instated learning (less for classwork, since this would eventually be long term memory)
