## What is SurgeCast?

Dive smarter. Explore more.

SurgeCast rates 13 shore dive sites around Monterey Bay, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel and Point Lobos as Great, Good, Fair, Rough or Severe: right now, for each part of the day, and hour by hour for seven days.

Each rating starts from the offshore buoys and NOAA's forecasts, then adjusts them for that site: the swell directions it is open to, the swell period, several swells at once, wind and chop, and the site's own tide rules.

For every site:
• The current rating on a dial, with what decided it (waves, wind and chop, tide)
• Plan your dive: morning, afternoon, evening and night for seven days
• An hourly outlook of estimated waves, wind and tide
• A calmer site nearby when yours is rough
• National Weather Service alerts, tsunami alerts and thunderstorm warnings
• Tides, water temperature and recent buoy readings
• Entry and parking notes with directions and site rules
• Links to the live cams near each site
• Favorites to compare your go-to sites

Ratings estimate wave and entry conditions only, not whether a site is safe for you, and not visibility. The buoys sit offshore, so each site's wave height is an estimate. Always look at the water before you get in. Not an official forecast.

Data from NOAA (the National Data Buoy Center, the National Weather Service and CO-OPS tides). SurgeCast is free, with no ads and no account.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 0.4.3 — 2026-10-29

When a site's local buoy is offline, SurgeCast now shows a notice at the top of the list and the site, and marks ratings from a backup buoy Low confidence with the reason. The site list also shows confidence, thunderstorms, offshore wind and site notes, the same as the website.

### 0.4.1 — 2026-10-27

New: a home-screen widget with a site picker, shared dive plans open right in the app, Add to Calendar, and a Rate SurgeCast row. Plus clearer forecast labels and fixes.

### 0.4.0 — 2026-10-27

No release notes.
