### 1/5 — Incomplete Dictation, end abruptly

*2026-06-02*

After using the app for two years, in the past three months, I’ve had five Dictation’s get disrupted. Despite multiple hours with their help and support the problem still persists. Hopefully they will fix their programming instead of telling me to unhook my hearing aids, unhook my wifik and avoid incoming calls when dictating. For now, I will go back to their traditional Dictation service.

### 1/5 — IT experience is awful

*2025-01-20*

As a physician user I have used at least a dozen different transcription and EMR services between the facilities I have worked with and this has been unequivocally the worst experience I have ever had. I have been locked out of my account for a couple of weeks now and IT has failed to solve the issue. Despite my efforts to set up phone calls to solve the issue, providing my number and available times to chat including making myself available all day during a business day I have received 0 calls to solve the issue and have only had emails days apart trying the same solutions that haven’t worked so far. I would not recommend this product in any healthcare setting due entirely to the inability to get support when patient care is being impacted.

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2021-04-20*

I would not use this application unless I had to. I only use it because the surgery center I am using forces me to use SN. They consistently don’t have the patients posted to my dictation queue. The app crashes and loses my data on a regular basis. This is very frustrating organization to work with, with an inferior product.

**Developer response:** We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please reach out to us so we can capture more details and work to resolve the issues to your satisfaction.

### 1/5 — Poor programming

*2016-09-09*

There is no way to confirm dictations have successfully uploaded. I have had a dozen cases lost over a couple days. Fool me once...

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear about this experience, but I believe you were likely using v1 of the mobile app. We did a full makeover a few years ago and continue to add more functionally each month.

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2023-09-01*

Unfortunately many surgery centers use this service. Transcription is good but reliability is lacking

**Developer response:** Thank you for providing feedback. Please make sure you have downloaded and are using the latest version of the app from the store. If you are still having an issue, please contact our support team at ITSupport@surgicalnotes.com and provide an example of your issue and we will have someone personally work with you to resolve the issue(s).

### 2/5 — Always freezes when trying to sign notes

*2022-12-05*

The layout is nice, and when it works it works well, but 4 out of 5 times when I go in to sign or edit a note, it freezes after hitting save or sign, forcing me to quit the app entirely. This makes the app essentially unusable. Please fix this!

### 3/5 — Crashes

*2026-04-03*

New version is glitchy and will freeze after you complete dictation, failing to upload and you lose the dictation.

### 3/5 — Functional but needs work

*2019-10-27*

This app is functional at a basic level, but is missing several features that would greatly improve functionality. There are also some needed bug fixes. The best feature, in my opinion, is the ability to electronically sign my notes and that feature works pretty well.

Needed features:

Overwrite mode. Self-explanatory. Just add a toggle switch to change between overwrite and insert modes.
Running timer during active recording including current cursor time and total length of dictation.
Ability to delete to end. It would probably be too complicated to delete arbitrary sections, but a simple delete from current cursor position to end of recording would be helpful.
Ability to select different audio sources. I frequently dictate using apple earbuds with a microphone, but there is no way to select that audio since the app appears to only select the built-in microphone. This produces poorer audio quality in noisy environments.
Option to change my signature. This option should include the ability to upload a signature file so that it can look more professional than my scribble on a phone.
Bugs:

Insertion mode is unpredictable. It seems to work to insert in the middle of a dictation, but you cannot insert at the very beginning. Even if the cursor is on 0:00, the inserted dictation begins at around 0:03.
I personally have problems sometimes with jobs not appearing in the app even though the cases were created appropriately in my ASC’s software. This really only started after they were forced by Surgical Notes to update the ASC software.

### 4/5 — Removed Face ID with “update”

*2022-02-15*

Version 2.3.32. Initially FaceID not working. But after 2 weeks it has mysteriously begun to work. Maybe corrected by 15.3.1?

Overall good. Simple way to dictate my notes without need for keyboard entry or a special microphone. Notifications allow quick sign off.

**Developer response:** We are very sorry to hear that you are having issues. We want to reassure you that the FaceID feature is still heavily used by a number of users today and we have no plans of removing this capability. Please give us a call at (800) 459-5616 or send an email to

acctmgrs@surgicalnotes.com so that we can have someone work with you to resolve your current issues.

### 5/5 — Time Saver and More....

*2020-11-11*

The Surgical Notes Mobile App has been a significant time saver for me.

Ease of use anywhere, anytime for me to complete my dictations has been great.

I highly recommend it!
