### 4/5 — Great app with one big bug

*2025-05-29*

The big bug is the app gets frequently gets stuck in the “Reconnecting” state which requires a force quit and relaunch. It is especially annoying when I am locked-in to a game, decide on my move, but cannot submit my move because “Reconnecting”.

This bug is a shame because otherwise this app is amazing! Great choices on what to include in the interface versus not.

I am a paid subscriber and will continue to be, but hope the “Reconnecting” bug is fixed someday.

### 4/5 — Needs repair

*2024-12-22, version 1.3.16*

When I open public games tab on iPhone 11, app crushing

### 4/5 — Great app

*2024-01-03, version 1.3.11*

Really nice looking app, but IMO stones should be a little bit bigger - almost touching each other. That's the idea of the "dame" - breathing points for a stone or a group of stones.

### 5/5 — WoW

*2023-01-26, version 1.3.9*

This changed my life, I was lonely, bored, single and had no friends. After learning everything changed. I am lonely, I have no friend and I’m single BUT I’m a fully entertain

### 5/5 — Love the app but started crashing

*2022-10-23*

App was great but now crashes every time I open it. Please assist

**Developer response:** Hi,

Can you try version 1.3.7 to see if it fixes the crash?

If it still crashes, could you send me an email with more detail so I can investigate further? My email is khoahong@hey.com

Thanks,
Khoa

### 5/5 — Beautiful!

*2022-10-04*

Easiest the cleanest and most beautiful app for the Online Go Server (OGS). It’s very responsive, the chat and analysis board work great, and the option to open to the game in the browser is great! If I had two wishes it would be for a dark mode, and the ability to save the SGF from the app, to save on SmartGo One.

### 5/5 — Does what’s needed

*2022-07-25*

Gets the basics down. Main missing feature is push notifications.

### 5/5 — Just what I wanted!

*2022-06-20*

Great app, can’t believe I didn’t hear about it earlier.

### 5/5 — Great Client for OGS!

*2022-04-13, version 1.3.3*

I was searching for a good OGS client and this is all I could wish for! The design is beautiful and everything feels intuitive.

Stumbled across this through a Google search. I really hope it gets a better listing in the AppStore since it’s so hard to find here. When I searched OGS Client it did not appear.

Great work, greetings from Germany!

### 5/5 — Awesome OGS Client App!

*2022-02-19, version 1.3.2*

This is a beautiful client app for OGS, the ”Online Go Server“ (”Go“ as in ”Baduk“ or ”Weiqi“, the ancient Asian strategy board game).
Runs smoothly on iOS and iPadOS.
It is FREE but allows donations, which I happily give, as I would just as well have gladly paid for this very nice app.
MANY THANKS to you, Hong Anh Khoa!
Greetings from a German Go player!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Login doesn’t work

*2026-03-19*

Has an issue where, when logging in, the app opens a small web browser window. It then allows login to OGS in that small browser, but it wont load the login to the actual app.

### 1/5 — Can’t login

*2025-09-16*

I try to login and it brings up a browser login screen where I do so, but then never comes back to the app. Once I click done, the app still asks for me to sign in

### 1/5 — Custom matches not working

*2022-12-26*

Cant submit a custom match at all. Used an ipad and iphone, both didn’t work

**Developer response:** Hi,

I’m sorry about the issue, this happens on version 1.3.8 and has been fixed in version 1.3.9. Can you check out the new version to see if it helps?

### 2/5 — Google sign in bug

*2026-05-13*

Sign in with Google option pops up a small window where you can log in but the main window is still not logged in.

### 3/5 — Great app with one frustrating bug

*2026-03-29*

I was excited to see an update to this app suggesting “2.x”. I hoped that the bug had been fixed, alas, no…

The frustrating bug is the app gets frequently gets stuck in the “Reconnecting” state which requires a force quit and relaunch. It is especially annoying when I am locked-in to a game, decide on my move, but cannot submit my move because “Reconnecting”.

This bug is a shame because otherwise this app is amazing! Great choices on what to include in the interface versus not.

### 3/5 — Great app, but broken

*2025-01-13*

This app is fantastic. It’s what OGS has needed for a long time. Drawback is that push notifications cost extra (pretty much THE feature if you play correspondence). This is really a shortcoming of OGS though as they don’t actually offer a push service. This forces the Surround dev to poll the server and roll their own notification server so they have to offset their costs.

The real problem is that the app doesn’t load properly. Every time I open the app it’s stuck in the “loading” state. You can bypass it with a full restart of the app, but it’s a pain and feels unfinished. I contacted the dev about it and basically got “yeah I know it does that but I’m not going to take the time to fix it.” Seems like kind of lazy support for an app that’s darn near perfect.

I want to give this 5 stars, but not until I see a fix. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In any case, thanks for the good app!

### 4/5 — Makes me log in every time I open the app

*2025-11-15*

The app is best used for correspondence games. I like OGS!

Note to dev: I deleted the app, and upon redownloading it and signing in I found that I was not able to access the same UI as before I deleted the app. It now is permanently on the “web version” of the app, and prompts me to log in every time I open the app.

### 4/5 — Excellent client for OGS

*2025-10-27, version 1.3.16*

A wonderful app for Go, connects to OGS and has an v excellent UI.

Main two complaints I have is primarily when you reopen it oftentimes says reconnecting until you shut down the app and launch it again.

Secondly, to start a game with an AI you first have to add them as a friend, but I would have preferred to have a dedicated list with AI opponents from OGS.

### 4/5 — Great app with one frustrating bug

### 4/5 — "Reconnecting..."

*2025-10-05*

this bug is the only major issue, everything else works great.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best Go Client

*2026-03-28, version 2.0.1*

Best go server and best client. Use it every day. Thanks dev!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-07-29, version 1.3.16*

Love this app. Nice clean interface. Useful widgets on macOS and iOS.
Subscription is refreshing cheap, even though I only tend to play one correspondence game at a time it’s well worth it for the notifications.

### 5/5 — Hidden gem of a Go (Igo, weiqi, baduk) app

*2024-05-14*

I found this app completely by accident (never came up in search, which is the curse of all Go related things) and it has turned out to be all but perfect. If you play on OGS (or want to but you’re turned off by the interface) this is all you need. It’s an actual free fully featured OGS client, with the only upsell being a tiny subscription fee if you want push notifications for your games. There is currently a very small bug in the chat feature but after emailing the developer Khoa, they responded promptly to let me know it has been fixed in the next release and shared a TestFlight link to download the improved dev version. They are clearly in it for the love and not for the money, so if this review is corny, it’s only because I feel likes this kind of work deserves some love in return.

### 5/5 — Very nice Go app

*2024-04-22*

I bought this to have notifications for my correspondence games, and it does that nicely. Feels like a native iOS app, not too many frills which is good. Easy to just get into a game using the OGS server.

### 5/5 — Simple and efficient (no bullsh*t)

*2024-03-19*

This app lets you play the games through OGS server in a simple and efficient way.
I would give six stars if I could.
Thank you for creating this app.

### 5/5 — Fantastic OGS Client

*2023-09-28*

My only minor complaint is that navigation within the app on the phone can feel a bit unintuitive at times. Besides that, I love it! The app has everything I’d want from a mobile OGS client as well as some extras. The widget is a very nice touch!

### 5/5 — Works great

*2023-08-09*

Functional and attractive client for OGS. My only feature request: saving settings for custom games. Still love playing on this app!

### 5/5 — Keali

*2023-07-13*

Great to have an app for OGS.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-06-02, version 1.3.11*

It’s clean UI no junk works great. What’s not to like.
By far the best way to play go with your friends on an iPhone.

If you get the time ability to add friends/search users would be nice .

### 5/5 — Great

*2023-02-17, version 1.3.9*

Minimalist, comfortable, and not getting in the way. My favorite software to play go.
