## What is SVXConnect Portable?

SVXConnect lets a licensed amateur radio operator connect to compatible voice reflectors over IP and transmit / receive voice from a mobile device. A valid amateur radio license and a signed client certificate from your reflector operator are required.

Designed for everyday use on the go: tap PTT, talk, listen.

KEY FEATURES

• Direct reflector protocol support — encrypted control channel and secure low-latency voice audio over UDP. Works with standard compatible reflector systems and supported enhanced metadata feeds.

• Talkgroup management — switchable and monitored TGs with priority preemption, manual linger, idle timeout, and lock-to-channel mode. “Fill from portal” can load the full TG list from supported reflector metadata.

• Live map — reflector node positions on a dark map view, talker dots in red, decoded mobile stations in blue. Tap clusters to fan out overlapping dots. Floating recenter button snaps back to your QTH at a configurable radius.

• Local 24 h history — when no enhanced reflector feed is available, the activity panel falls back to a locally built rolling log, configurable from 1 hour to 1 week.

• Bluetooth PTT — supported headset media buttons can be used as a PTT toggle. Compatible Bluetooth remote buttons are also supported, with one button for PTT and another for next TG.

• VOX voice-activated transmit — optional, with headset-only gating to help avoid an unintended open mic on the built-in microphone.

• Background-friendly — low-power keepalive keeps the connection available while the screen is locked, with reconnect support and lock-screen media-button PTT.

• Audio routing — wireless speakers, Bluetooth audio devices, wired headphones, and per-device microphone gain with separate sliders for device and Bluetooth input.

• Callsign and reflector metadata lookup, roger beep, talkgroup voice announcements, manual or automatic QTH.

SVXConnect is open in design and uses a standard reflector protocol with no proprietary lock-in.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-08-13

• Multiple profiles — set up Home, Portable, EMCOMM, or any combination of reflectors and switch with a tap. Each profile holds its own reflector, callsign, talkgroups, and certificate.
• Profiles tab — dedicated screen for managing profiles (add, rename, set default, delete). Settings tab is now focused on device-wide preferences.
• Inline profile picker on Radio — quick switcher chip shown when you're disconnected and have more than one profile.
• Callsign + Password authentication — connect to reflectors that use the legacy plaintext handshake, as an alternative to the certificate flow.
• Manual connect mode — a global toggle that stops the app from ever reconnecting on its own. PTT press and Connect tap still work.
• Coarse location — broadcast the centre of your Maidenhead grid square instead of your exact GPS fix (minimum 1 km fuzz). Local features keep exact-fix accuracy. Default on.
• Swipe the Connect button to cycle between profiles. Long-press for a quit confirmation.

Fixed:

• Portal-only features (Callsign / Talkgroup JSON auto-update, Fill from portal, Map Auto-Update, Map tab) hide automatically when a reflector doesn't serve them.
• "Email required" no longer blocks connecting on a Callsign + Password profile.
• Talkgroup lock now speaks "locked" / "unlocked" through the TTS system when announcements are enabled.
• Crash on cold launch when a Bluetooth accessory auto-fires a play command during startup.
• Roger beeps and chirps that went silent after switching talkgroups.
• Cert / CSR files are pruned when you change identity so the reflector never receives a stale signing request.

Reliability:

• Multi-profile switch is safe mid-session — PTT releases, the connection tears down cleanly, no ghost audio leaks into the new profile.
• Per-profile PKI directories — no more cross-profile certificate collisions.
• Self-heal reconnect when a listened talker plays through with zero audio received.
• Always-on crash reporter — any future issue can be shared straight to us on the next launch.

### 1.9.1 — 2026-08-08

New in 1.9.1:

• Bluetooth PTT for Abbree / KST speaker-mics — flip on in Preferences.
• Hold-to-transmit as a preference; swipe the PTT button to switch between hold and toggle.
• Chirp-style start and end beeps
• Choose your own TX and RX border colors from a 7-color palette (defaults: red for TX, blue for RX).
• Talkgroup lock now speaks "locked" / "unlocked" for hands-free confirmation.

Fixed:
• Crash on launch when a Bluetooth accessory sent a play command during startup.
• Roger beeps and chirps that went silent after switching talkgroups.
• End-of-transmission tones occasionally leaking into your outgoing audio on first connect.
• Flashing border staying lit after Disconnect.
• iPad map crash on launch and iPhone crash when tapping map markers.
• Offline stations lingering on the map instead of disappearing.

Reliability:
• Automatic reconnect when a talker is heard but no audio arrives.
• Always-on crash reporter — any future issue can be shared straight to us on the next launch.

### 1.9 — 2026-07-21

New
• Abbree AR-780 / KST speaker-mic PTT button now works (enable in Preferences → BT Abbree speakermic)
• Chirp-style roger beep, plus optional short beeps when your own PTT starts and stops
• Flashing screen border while transmitting (red) or receiving (green), with a 7-color palette
• On-screen PTT button labels PTT in hold mode and TGL in toggle mode — swipe left or right on the button to flip between the two without opening Preferences
• Reflector map now removes stations as they go offline

Reliability
• Fixed a group of crashes triggered by Bluetooth-in-car use (route flips, phone calls, AirPods handoffs, HFP/A2DP renegotiation)
• Fixed iPad crashes on the map with busy reflectors (500+ nodes now handled cleanly)
• Fixed a rare crash when tapping stations on the map
• If the app ever crashes, you're offered to email a diagnostic report on next launch

Bug fixes
• Swiping across the PTT button no longer accidentally toggles transmit
• Start-of-transmission beep no longer leaks to remote stations
• Flashing border stops immediately when you tap Disconnect
• Border color picker now fits on smaller iPhones
• When a station's audio was silently lost while the app still knew about them (roger beep played but no voice audio), the app now detects it and reconnects automatically
