Can we stay away from shiny new things and focus on stability? There’s TestFlight for that. ### 3/5 — More responsive *2026-08-18* Although missing a few important features like downloading to device, in my opinion this is a step in the right direction. It’s faster, and smoother, removes the need for multiple pages for media libraries, and allows continuous scrolling to display more media like a modern app should. Also adds the ability to quickly switch between multiple users, and adds a way to protect users with a pin (although it could use some improvements like needing to reenter the pin after closing and reopening the app) ### 3/5 — Great release for AppleTV *2026-08-18* Update: latest version breaks everything. Requires Jellyfin Beta - ridiculous. Theme renders buttons unreadable in dark mode. Native player no longer shows prev/next or proper episode name. Will not queue next episode. Play button for next up says “missing”. And of course AppleTV you can’t roll back. Performs much better, less lag, clean interface, and…settings! Thank you. Now if only it had a “clear cache” in the settings, and the long-awaited Music Videos category had play all/shuffle play. I had to switch to direct play - all my videos are transcoded, and worked fine on previous version. This version requests transcode for them - to the same settings? ### 3/5 — Why 12.0? *2026-08-16, version 1.6* Why would anybody push an app update for a client that requires a currently unstable release of the server component? There are a couple of quirks still, such as needing VLC player to play back Downloads, and accessing the admin dashboard isn’t quite as intuitive as it is in the normal Jellyfin app, but on the whole, I like using it. The branding is a tad confusing though… why are there two apps? Why is this one — arguably the more refined MK2 version — not called Jellyfin? I understand the title rationale (a Swift version of Jellyfin), but it makes it feel like this newer app is an experimental bolt-on, rather than a serious replacement. Great app, and props to the Jellyfin team for making such a great system. I want to force the video into landscape mode even when the iOS System Orientation Lock is turned ON. I am constantly hitting it by accident whenever I want to change my volume or brightness and it is very annoying. It should not be this easy to close a video imo. Collections seem to for some reason not show more than 20 items though. Would be 5 stars if not for that. Edit: Doesn’t seem to show playlists also? Can only see TV, Movies, Collections and Favourites. tvOS - 2 stars - seems a bit neglected and not great. Really needs work and honestly surely most people watch things on TV’s rather than phones? Maybe I’m old. That’s all being said, super appreciate all the developers time on the project. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No Longer Works With Stable Release of Jellyfin? *2026-08-21* This app worked for a short while for me but now indicates that Jellyfin 12 is required while 10.11.11 is the current stable version. ### 1/5 — Used to be great *2026-08-13, version 1.5* It used to be great. Swiftfin player would go to side view automatically. Left/right swipe would set screen brightness and volume. Now it just quits player even I had it in settings. Nothing about the newest updates has been beneficial. Shows no longer auto-play the next episode (even with the setting turned on), the main page puts a line through the wallpaper for the menus below it, album artwork (which never changed) is now either changed or missing, episode names no longer show up while episodes are playing (it shows the show’s name now), and if you click to watch an episode, the first button the system highlights takes you to the series’ homepage instead of simply playing the episode! And it’s three years since the last tvOS release. It’s hard to take them seriously at this point.) It works. But the tvOS version hasn’t been updated in two and a half years. There’s a Github thread about it that’s just hit the one year mark and no end in site. I know work is being done but it feels abandoned, The iOS/iPadOS versions have had multiple updates to keep up with the later Jellyfin and OS updates but the AppleTV sits on an old version with occasional minor issues that, although minor, aren’t going away until there’s an update. So, if you’re a Jellyfin user who primarily watches on an AppleTV, your options are Third-Party-paid/subscription or Official-but-woefully-outdated. ### 1/5 — no music support *2026-04-09, version 1.4.1* waste of time ### 1/5 — 2 year old TVOS bug still not fixed!! *2026-03-15, version 1.4.1* Every time I go to watch my content this friggin app keeps acting brand new, asking for server and login info. It is a 20 minute ordeal every single time. This is a known bug to Swiftfin since 2023. Several people have offered fixes that the developer just closes. On Jellyfin, I couldn’t get subtitles to work across my media properly at all. Some episodes failed to play. Downloaded this client instead and immediately fixed my subtitle rendering issues.
