### 3/5 — iPadOS Bugs

*2026-01-04, version 3.3.5*

I’ve been using SwiftoDo for over 6 years now and I’m on v3.3.5, which I believe is the latest version. I’ve been to your website but there is nowhere to submit bugs and they don’t conform to 4 preset troubleshooting issues.
Whenever I try to create a new task I receive an error msg of “Conflict with the remote file.” And I’m given three options: “Upload (Keep Local); Download (Keep Remote); Cancel”
Regardless of which option I chose, I receive the same error msg each time I create a task. Also regardless of the option the task is saved in the Todo.txt file.
I’ve tried recreating the todo.txt file and adding the tasks back in one by one and I still receive the same error msg.

In the settings under sync providers I have two enabled (I believe they are the default settings, because I haven’t changed them). The helpful comments says to tap on the sync name to enable/disable it, but that doesn’t work either.

I hope you can resolve these issues as they are most annoying and slows down my work flow.

There is another bug report under the MacOS store for SwiftoDo. Thanks.

### 4/5 — Nice

*2025-11-26, version 3.3.5*

Love the simplicity, the options, and the markdown. One bug: manual sort does not work. Please fix.

### 4/5 — Almost Perfect

*2025-11-03, version 3.3.5*

The one killer feature this app is missing is the ability to handle more than one todo file at once. I have separate files for home and work but can only have one of them loaded at a time.

### 4/5 — Editor issue

*2025-08-05, version 3.3.5*

I love this app, but I am having an issue with the in-app text editor. When I open my todo.txt file in the editor, not all of the file is visible. My tasks all appear fine in the app itself, and file syncing with Dropbox works well. I can use an external text editor to edit the todo.txt file, and it syncs back into the app with no problem. However, it would be nice to be able to edit my entire todo.txt file inside of the app and to use the editing tools that the app provides. Also, as others have mentioned, it would be nice to have some more modern iOS updates in the app, such as automatic switching between light and dark themes along with the iPhone itself. Also, maybe some push notifications when tasks are due? Otherwise, the app is a great tool to use for managing todo.txt files for task management.

### 3/5 — Works as expected

*2025-04-23, version 3.3.5*

Generally decent, but I feel there is too much wasted space on the screen. Wish I could set smaller fonts and less closer line spacing. Drag n drop would be nice too. Still, what it does it y decently - never any errors

### 4/5 — Great tool

*2024-09-25*

Well thought, good implementation. Works with working copy repos. It is a minor inconvenience that App CRASHES when opened after a pull operation.

### 4/5 — Brilliant app let down by sync options

*2024-07-06, version 3.3.5*

I’ve tried other todo.txt apps and this is by far the best. But limiting the sync options to Dropbox and the Files app may be an issue for some.
Dropbox was the go-to cloud storage 15 years ago, but who uses it now? I got it working with iCloud Drive and syncing between iphone and ipad works - but only sometimes. Lack of documentation for setting up Files app syncing doesn’t help. Also it limits the editing of todo.txt files to Apple devices only.
WebDAV syncing would make this otherwise near-perfect app useful to many more people. I’d pay for that!

### 3/5 — Reasonable

*2024-07-02, version 3.3.5*

Managing tasks is easy. Archiving, priorities, filters, and recurrence all behave like I expect

My one problem is that I’m using Files for sync and managing underlying with sync thing. I get a reliable crash whenever I open following a remote change. Reopening displays everything fine. M

### 3/5 — App crashing

*2024-06-24*

App is crashing every time I refresh. Probably due to Google drive integration.

### 4/5 — could be better

*2024-02-08, version 3.3.4*

My first impression is through the experience of exporting Reminders to this app. I was pleasantly surprised of the export feature existing at all, but it’s not entirely useful. It could, for example, apply a project for tasks that were sorted into a specific list. That way, they remain sorted when I import different lists. This can be manually fixed after the fact, but the bulk edit task feature doesn’t allow to bulk apply a project. Of course, one of the benefits of todo.txt is that I can go edit this file on my desktop machine, but wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of having a mobile interface?

### 3/5 — Good but lacking a few things..

*2023-12-31, version 3.3.2*

Love the simplicity of todo.txt and this app’s implementation. However for the price I think it’s lacking some iOS integration. I would like to be able to put a today widget on a screen and cross items off throughout the day without checking the app. Time specific recurring due dates and notifications I think are necessary as well. These couple items would make this a 5 star app.

### 4/5 — Works well but auto dark mode would be nice

*2023-10-05, version 3.3.2*

Would like it to change themes automatically like most apps nowadays.

### 4/5 — Great app, great basic principle

*2023-06-10*

I love the app, I love todo.txt. Mainly because of the simplicity. However, what I would like from the app is the widget capability.

However, I would like to emphasise the possibility of synchronising the todo.txt via iCloud and thus making it available to the CLI version on the Mac.

### 4/5 — Probably the best todo.txt app, but would benefit from updates for modern devices.

*2023-02-26, version 3.3.2*

I think this app has the best approach to the todo.txt format on iOS.

There is (for me, at the date of this review, on iOS 16.3.1, iPhone 13 Pro Max) a bug with syncing via Google Drive. I use Drive because it can be used with little effort on my work computers, which run Linux. Dropbox, iCloud, etc, all take too much effort or aren’t compatible. New tasks added do not sync to my linked file on computers, and new tasks added on a computer do not sync back to the app. When I pull down to refresh, to request an immediate sync, the app closes. When I re-open it, nothing has updated.

I hope the developer is aware and able to address it, and it looks from the version history like that will be the case. Michael, feel free to reach out to me if you need any information from me to help diagnose this.

I think Swiftodo could do with some quality of life updates for newer iOS devices. The UI feels like it is from several major iOS releases ago, and does not support system features like automatic dark mode switching, which I find really lower user friction in apps that support it. I have tried to reach out via linkedin & twitter to make this feature request but haven’t heard back yet.

I would love to see some updated dark and light themes more fitting with recent versions of iOS, and the ability to automatically swap between dark and light modes along with the rest of the iOS system apps and most major modern apps that I use. Even Apple Shortcuts automation would be better than not having the option.

Other reviewers have mentioned support for widgets. I could add Siri, Apple Shortcuts and share sheet.

Bug report and feature requests aside, Swiftodo has all the filtering, searching, editing and todo.txt syntax support you could need. It does a good job in general and is fairly low friction in day-to-day use.

### 4/5 — Probably the best for Todo.txt

*2023-01-07*

It is surely the best application for Todo.txt, but I think it needs an update. In any case, your work is appreciated.

### 4/5 — A really good app with no real private way to sync for

*2022-06-26, version 3.3.2*

This may not be an issue with the app, but may just be an issue with the iOS files app. I wish to store my to do list on Nextcloud which I host myself. And for some reason the files app will not allow me to sync using SwiftoDo after about 12 hours. The syncing just stops. It would be nice if this app supported either WenDAB or Git direct syncing.

### 5/5 — Best iOS app for todo.txt

*2022-06-07*

If you want to use the todo.txt system on iOS, this is the app to get. It is by far the best one out there, and the only one that supports recurring tasks. Thanks Mike!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Still fail in due date

*2024-01-31, version 3.3.4*

The app freezes when trying to assign an due date.

### 1/5 — Error update file

*2019-04-02, version 3.0.4*

Usually when you switch between wifi and data phone the link get lost and duplicate the file

### 1/5 — Unusable with files

*2018-11-24, version 3.0.1*

It crashes all the time. I suspect it has to do with my using of IOS Files instead of Dropbox. Unacceptable.

### 1/5 — Unreliable buggy

*2018-03-17, version 2.9.2*

For an app whose sole job is to track your todos, SwiftoDo actually loses information.

The app repeatedly forgets my settings. For the past month I’ve had it, it always resets the New Task Entry Mode setting to “Single,” despite my setting it to “Multiple.” Until now, this had just been an annoyance that, although frustrating, didn’t affect my todo list.

Today, however, I noticed it stopped syncing with my Dropbox. New tasks I entered since the last time it synced weren’t being saved to the cloud. After trying to refresh a few times, I checked the settings and discovered that the app had forgotten my sync settings completely!

I proceeded to re-enter my syncing information. I then checked my todo list, and to my horror I found that my iPhone’s copy of the list had been completely replaced with the out-of-date version from Dropbox. All the tasks I entered since the last sync (however long ago that was, I don’t know, since I don’t know when the app decided to forget my settings) were gone. Simply gone.

For a paid app, this is unacceptable. Please get your act together.

### 2/5 — Date picker is still broken

*2024-02-03, version 3.3.4*

The design is simple and pleasant and I love it. The only problem is that the inline date picker crashes the app when you try to use it, and is automatically opened when trying to enter a due date, so it’s essentially impossible to use due dates.

The last patch suggested this was fixed but as of 3.3.4 it’s not

### 2/5 — Good UI, bad functionality

*2022-06-20*

Synchronising with Nextcloud, this App keeps overriding all changes made on another device that was synced with Nextcloud.
The author is unresponsive to all requests/bugs and the only way to reach them is LinkedIn, a proprietary social media platform, making it tremendously difficult to contact them.

Without bugfixes and fixing the synchronisation problem, this app is about as unusable for me as it gets.

### 2/5 — No support

*2022-04-21, version 3.3.2*

I need help and the app developer is absolutely unreachable as far as I can tell. Sigh

### 2/5 — Synchronisiert überhaupt nicht

*2022-02-13*

Synchronisiert überhaupt nicht

### 2/5 — Crasht sehr oft. Schade.

*2021-01-02*

Crasht leider oft ohne ersichtlichen Grund. Sehr schade.

### 2/5 — Crash

*2017-11-05, version 2.6.0*

I just bought and setup to sync on dropbox started using and loved the simplicity and use of todo.txt methods. However, after using for a few minutes the app crashes and then i cant re-open the app without deleting it and re-installing. Im on 7plus iphone with latest ios. Please fix 😱

### 5/5 — ASCII is your friend

*2025-01-19, version 3.3.5*

(My review of SwiftoDo Desktop applies here)

Update Jan 7,2024:
Came back to this tool after 2 years wandering in an obsidian, things, and a few other tools haze. Looking at my files I realized this was the only tool (along with the original todo.txt) which I was able to use effectively over multiple years.
Mr. Descy solved cross platform syncing solutions back in 2018 and 2019 that other todo.txt implementations are just realizing they need.

This is still as close to perfect an app as I’ve come across and I hope Mr. Descy will keep revisiting it every few years to keep it working.
——
Update March 13, 2020
Still incredibly happy with this tool and it's ios version. I've actually stayed with a tool for the first time in years (like since the palm pilot days when I used lifebalance) and sort of regularly find myself wanting to drop a note to Michael (creator) just to say thank you! Regular updates and bug fixes keep coming and I appreciate the clarity of purpose Michael brings to his choices - eg. when I asked about adding a time of day for due dates he explained with great clarity not only why that wasn't going to happen but why it would actually negatively impact my effectiveness if it was there. If you download this take a good look a the filters options - they make a huge difference.

June 25, 2019: My requirements tend to be simple: ascii or excellent import export, multiplatform. I generally float bettween omnifocus, taskpaper and todo.txt (bad habit, but the darn apps keep getting filled up!) It had been a few years sincce todo.txt and I was sad to find that Gina's app no longer worked for sync with dropbox or with ios so I took a look around. Michael did a really nice github version that supported todo.txt formats. Swiftodo, (and the ios version he did) are even better. His sensible additions to filtering are a boon, coupled with great support.

### 5/5 — I've tried them all but I keep coming back

*2023-11-24, version 3.3.2*

I've tried most EVERY to-do and task application in existence (click up, notion, microsoft to do, tick tick, google tasks, remember the milk, evernote, omnifocus and org-mode, to name a few), but, I keep coming back to this plain text swift to do app. I use some tricks to organize my tasks, gtd principles of course and even create an events calendar within the app.

### 5/5 — extra CLI + mobile

*2023-10-08*

Excellent application that allow working both on CLI inside your terminal and outside with this application on mobile, everything sync on Dropbox : wonderful

### 5/5 — Great!

*2023-05-24, version 3.3.2*

Took a little bit to get used to, but does everything I need. Only suggestion/request would be a way to edit the colours used for each element in addition to the preset themes, as you can do on the Mac version, but that is a very minor complaint.

### 5/5 — Tea timer

*2022-08-18, version 3.3.2*

I have to start the tea timer when i make tea

### 5/5 — Love this Todo.txt client!

*2022-07-05*

Really nice small todo.txt client with every feature you possibly need. Dropbox sync works like a charm!

Are there any plans making a widget for the homescreen? That would really be awesome.
