### 4/5 — Richard

*2025-12-02, version 4.2.1*

I’ve used SWIMTAG a lot. Positives: I can’t leave it at home. I’ve been able to track my performance and improve as a result. It’s exiting waiting for the result to come through each time. Things to improve for me: it would be brilliant if I could see how many lengths I’d done at any point whilst doing the swim. Also a pause recording feature. Our pool currently has got new pc’s and the SWIMTAG doesn’t work atm!

### 2/5 — Issues with accuracy

*2025-08-30, version 4.1.17*

This app is ok for tracking basic data, similar to other basic swim watches, but only if you’re swimming crawl or breaststroke, and it also doesn’t always read turns correctly. Backstroke only records correctly about 2/3rds of the time, otherwise it’s ‘mixed’. However it NEVER tracks butterfly; it will either register it as front crawl with the straighter pull or with the ‘keyhole’ shape pull as unknown. I always have to manually edit the swim to correct the discrepancy despite my technique being correct (I’m a club swimmer). I’m also a bit insulted that the editor decides certain laps are too fast and won’t let me save until I extend it beyond the waveform that’s right there, heaven forbid that I swim an exceptional lap.

### 2/5 — Never opens

*2025-05-20, version 4.1.14*

Would be great if it worked. Have to delete and download each time I want to access it. Very frustrating.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t open 90% of the time

*2025-04-07, version 4.1.14*

This app could be really good if it worked. The amount of times I try to open the app to record my swim but it just freezes which is very frustrating as I’m trying to keep track of my distance and timing. Sometimes I have to go to the App Store and open it that way, but that has now stopped working. Please fix it otherwise I’ll have to delete and find a new app.

### 2/5 — Import funktioniert mit iOS 18 nicht mehr

*2024-10-13, version 4.1.14*

Seit dem Update auf iOS 18 lassen sich keine Schwimmen von der Apple Watch mehr importieren.

### 4/5 — Ok

*2024-07-10, version 4.1.14*

Ok

### 2/5 — So many bugs!

*2024-03-28, version 4.1.12*

If you just want to use a SWIMTAG band then this is a good app.

Trying to import from Apple Health/watch is useless. Got one swim in and then it wouldn’t upload any more. Deleted account, started new one after using a swim band at my pool. Imported that no problem, tried to import older swims (only that week) from Apple Watch….still telling me no valid swims.

Finally tried uploading from a FIT file, and despite telling the app it was a pool swim it has uploaded as Open Water Swim, try and delete them and it tells me I can’t delete my only swim when there are three on the account.

So like I said very buggy. If you’ve got a sports watch I’d just stick with that, if you are interested in doing the SWIMTAG competitions and leaderboards then make sure you use a swimband at your pool.

### 2/5 — Not good

*2023-11-16, version 4.1.11*

It won’t let me edit the swimming distance nor delete a swim. Incredibly frustrating to use

### 3/5 — When it works, it is excellent.

*2023-08-09, version 4.1.10*

The communication via email is brilliant and staff are great at dealing with issue quickly but my swims just won’t load correctly daily and I’m having to email daily to get it corrected. The app worked perfectly for the first week of use and I do like it but it’s frustrating as this could be an excellent app especially for motivation for newer swimmers. Going to try one more option to uninstall/reinstall otherwise I won’t be using it again unfortunately.

### 4/5 — Useful tool

*2023-07-21, version 4.1.10*

Enjoy using SWIMTAG to check rate of swim it’s good to see a competition time and have something to work towards each week. Would be good tho if each swim in a week showed the the fastest 400 m so that I’d competition time not achieved you could compare and see how far off comp.time you were

### 3/5 — A bit glitchy, but generally good

*2023-05-22, version 4.1.9*

My local leisure centre has Swimtag wristbands available for use so I find using the dedicated wristband and the app absolutely brilliant and I won’t swim without it these days. The wristband/app tracks my swim time and counts lengths and detects strokes which is very impressive. I don’t tend to count lengths as I go so I really enjoy when a new swim is uploaded on the app and I see how many lengths I’ve done.
The only downside is the app is VERY glitchy. It constantly freezes, shuts down and the personal best section is a mess - I can’t edit or alter personal bests without the app bugging out every time! It’s a shame as the app could be fantastic but it’s just so glitchy. For that reason I can’t give more than 3*.

### 3/5 — App very slow and keeps saying offline

*2022-07-14, version 4.0.18*

Even the website via my phone does the same thing, saying poor or slow internet connection. I have fibre BB!

### 3/5 — Great app but some problems

*2022-04-30, version 4.0.18*

I can log in on my computer but i cannot on my phone for some reason it just says email address not found. I tried the app and the website but it wont seem to work.

### 4/5 — Great tool for tracking your progress

*2022-04-13, version 4.0.18*

With a range of challenges and competitions. You can use the app to push yourself even if you are not a member of a club. Alternatively, if you want to just keep track of your swims and distances it does that too! Only problems I have experienced is iPhone bugs where it says it not the latest version even when an update is not available. Overall a great app though.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Won’t open

*2025-09-20, version 4.2.0*

The app just won’t open, tried reinstalling but no luck. Disappointing, as it used to work.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2024-09-13, version 4.1.14*

Attempted download x3 times. App glitching and bypassing any login process, account creation or linking with Apple health. UI feels poor. Wouldn’t pay for this in its current state! Come on guys, I’m sure you cannot this native naughtiness..

### 1/5 — Ridiculous

*2024-03-26, version 4.1.12*

Spends half the time not even loading from the logo, constantly having to refresh the app to try and load it, it’s horrendous. Barely works

### 1/5 — Smart Watch Users Look Elsewhere

*2024-02-26, version 4.1.11*

For context, I’ve used this app for just over 7 years. I’ve logged 439 swims totalling over 1000km and 14 days of swimming time.

The good: As a tool for tracking exercise it’s been very useful - there are local and global competitions which offer great motivation for improvement and have probably meant that I’ve kept up with swimming when, at times, I haven’t been motivated to do so. Also, if you can’t afford a swimming watch and your leisure centre signs up for the Swimtag straps it’s convenient to use and the data captured by the trackers is almost as good as most swimming watches out there.

The bad: The mobile app can be somewhat frustrating at times. If your pool data isn’t tracked properly it can be difficult to correct it using the swim editing tool via the app - it’s better on the desktop but only if you have access to a computer.

The ugly: Death by subscription. As always, all good things come to an end. The new subscription feature means access to competitions is limited unless you’re willing to pay. You can also only import 4 swims per month if you are using something other than the Swimtag branded straps - I switched to a smart watch a few years ago and will not be swapping back. There are plenty of apps that offer the same functionality without the need for a paid subscription simply for uploading swimming data.

TL;DR - if you’re using the Swimtag straps it’s worthwhile. If not, use something else.

### 1/5 — Freezing and lack of flexibility

*2023-10-29, version 4.1.11*

I decided to stick to an app originally designed for running as they did swimming better than this app. Probably ok if you use the swimtag wristband rather than a sports watch

### 1/5 — Clunky

*2022-10-28, version 4.1.2*

Why won’t it scroll down to import my swims?

### 1/5 — Hopeless app

*2022-04-04, version 4.0.18*

Totally useless. Been trying to connect to Garmin Connect and it keeps saying I have already requested the dates so refuses to load. So tried to enter manually and pool information is wrong (20m pool and not 25m) Can’t edit the swim or anything and the load swim was incorrect. Didn’t seem to have an option to enter anything before it crashed. Constantly asking to log in and same error messages. FAQ is hopeless. Leaderboard keeps saying “down for maintenance” which I guess is Swimtag for “broken beyond repair”.

### 1/5 — Won’t find Apple Watch swims

*2022-03-16, version 4.0.15*

Can’t get it to work with Apple Watch - says no valid swims. No response to my query through twitter

### 1/5 — Very Good App when my data comes through!

*2021-11-29, version 4.0.8*

I have constant problems with swinish app
They are: no swim data comes through to my mobile! I swim 5 days a week so this issue is extremely disappointing. When I get my wristband after the light turns green using my membership card. Sytem is online. I return to the docking tower after my swim. Receptionist confirms the wristband is docking! Swim-tag constantly says the pool is off line! I inquire at the leisure centre and they say the system is online! Something is not happening! I have deleted the App and started again, Entering all my details. Still nothing. I have emailed Kieran at support services but it is still not resolved.
Very disappointing App which showes such an helpful tool.

### 1/5 — Does no one read these reviews?

*2021-10-07, version 4.0.6*

App does not work since last update!!! App will not load. Read your reviews!!!!!! Total trash!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very good

*2024-10-12, version 4.1.14*

Counts how many lengths I’ve done. I always lose count.
Like the overall swim display and the graph of individual lengths with speed, rest times, stroke rate and swim style.

### 5/5 — Brillant

*2024-03-05, version 4.1.11*

SWIMTAG is brilliant… i personally like setting individual challenges … currently swimming the equivalent of most of the lakes in the Lake District…(in my local swimming pool) shows you a map, plots your route, gives you distance remaining etc and you get an e.certificate when completed 😊

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2023-03-12, version 4.1.8*

Great app I love setting myself goals ( swimming the channel ect) and getting badges it makes my swims more enjoyable

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-03-07, version 4.0.15*

Very accurate app. Takes the hassle out of counting lengths when swimming. My swims are logged in the app and on my Apple health.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2022-03-07, version 4.0.15*

I love this app. I decide what time I’ll finish, don’t count lengths but look at the swim later. It’s motivating for me as I don’t want to be disappointed when I get home!

### 5/5 — JD

*2021-10-14, version 4.0.6*

Fab at check your progress!

### 5/5 — SWIMTAG

*2020-03-01, version 3.2.6*

I have been using SWIMTAG since it’s inception and it has gotten better and better. The information is it gives is immense and you are able to follow your progress easily via the app.
Competitions locally and nationally are a great way to see where you are against others. I have had to get onto my pool a number of times as they have forgotten to put them on the Dock to Download.
The Staff at SwimTag are so knowledgeable and friendly and will do their utmost to assist.
I have been a great advocate of SwimTag since Day 1. I also know how well it syncs with an Apple Watch.
Well worth the 5*****
Keep up the good work.
Thanks.
Phil C.

### 5/5 — And Another length

*2019-08-27, version 3.1.7*

Encourages you to swim regularly and just ‘another couple of lengths, Improves Fitness at any age

### 5/5 — SWIMTAG Watch

*2019-08-23, version 3.1.7*

I’ve been using SWIMTAG since March of this year ❗️for me it has been instrumental in my progression into the Swimasters England Swim Group❗️it started out as a way to keep fit and I do enjoy Swimming but when I started delving deeper into what SWIMTAG actually does I became like a man possessed wanting to improve my times for various challenges. The people at SWIMTAG have also been very Helpful with Feedback and Communication and when a technical question was asked I.e Swimstrokes they answered me promptly and explained in a way that was easy to understand as I’m no Olympic Swimmer just your average bloke who likes Swimming but now I like it a lot and SWIMTAG has been there every step of the way👊👍My opinion Awsome piece of equipment it does more than just record Lengths you swim you can go as deep into Analytical side of things as you want or just look at the number and times of your swim 10 out 10 from me👍

### 5/5 — One of my favourite apps

*2019-08-08, version 3.1.6*

Love the SWIMTAG & APP
( Novice Swimmer )
Love the fact that it counts your lengths & time swam & rests
Had an issue when I had a replacement card so my Swim didn’t register at first , excellent prompt customer service dealing with the matter - Shame I didn’t get the same support from the swimming pool
Biggest downside is waiting till pool logs the tag back onto the system so for me my pool operator lets the whole thing down
Wished I could have my own SWIMTAG like a Fitbit lol
