That said, now I keep getting adverts for this game that are completely inaccurate to the game. Crazy busty women to represent the classes, bizarre 3D scenes like the game has any comparison to something like Genshin Impact - it’s weird. Idk how they think they can get away with it considering you’re advertising it as a completely different type of game than it is. Shady behavior tbh. ### 3/5 — Okay if you don’t mind the bait-and-switch *2026-08-25, version 1.0.38* The ads looked great, right? But there was small print in Engrish that said something like “ ad creative, actual gameplay prevails “. That means that neither the character creation, or anything you see in the ads remotely resembles the actual gameplay. I am so freaking sick of that. Apparently many people don’t mind being lied to, but I do. Well iOS users can’t do that on the game, you have to go to a website. Where is that website? In a notice from a few weeks ago - go hunt it down every time. Do you want live support? They’re very responsive! Unfortunately, they won’t address any bugs. And somehow they can’t even tell who you are when submitting a ticket because the ticket system is also full of bugs. Marketing team is so bold in that regard, using other games’ music, AI-generated artworks to attract players. It had potential to be a great game though, as its own artwork is unique enough and the mechanism is very similar to other idle games that have been proved okay, GGM for example. However, without paying much, your map exploration is very limited, like only 5-10min a day or so, and you can only depend on whales to carry your dungeons. It’s promoted as f2p friendly but not really. PVE is not f2p friendly for the reasons mentioned above, and PVP is not friendly for even low to mid spenders. You miss a paid content or miss a day, you fall behind forever until other players quit. The seasonal mechanism seems fair and letting people catch up at first, but again the season result transfers to some permanent attributes so if you miss anything you fall behind forever. Servers become dead very soon. Save your time and look elsewhere. If you really wanna try? Make better Ads. *2026-08-20, version 1.0.38* Learned of Sword x Staff through Monster Never Cry’s discord announcement. I really love the artstyle, I enjoy the EN voice acting MUCH more than those from the big gacha games (Akane’s VA grew on me, and Molly’s VA had me sold), the gameplay is casual and entertaining. That being said, a friend gave me his impression through the game’s ads that it was a very low-quality mobile slop game, and after watching a few Sword x Staff ad reviews on YT (one of which even admitted the real gameplay was fun), it really didn’t do the game any justice—in fact, I thought it could CRIPPLE its reputation. I don’t know about the current state of SxS’s advertising, but if it remains the same as before, I feel that even just showing the raw truth of its contents is FAR better, because the game really is not bad. ### 4/5 — Solo mode? *2026-08-20, version 1.0.38* The game currently lacks a dedicated "Solo Mode" or graphical toggle in the settings menu to completely de-spawn or make other player models invisible on your screen. Maybe thats when he grind starts? But its a quite drastic change and all the new area jumps to 95k or 303k. Seems someone learned how to game the ratings system. From the opening nonsensical “The final showdown again…” you can tell this is going to be garbage. This game plays like every other Pacific Rim fantasy rpg - lots of flashy explosions right out of the gate and barely any strategy. Boooooooo! ### 1/5 — Not great if you want to play with friends *2026-08-14, version 1.0.37* My friend started this game and recommended it to me. I played for a few hours and it was kinda fun. by the time he was available to play, we found out that we were on different servers, his server was full, and there was no possible way for me to play with him without him having to start all the way over. The fact that this game has been out for a while now and they’ve done nothing to resolve this is a huge turn off. If you intend to play solo, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this game for some time. I however am not interested in supporting these developers until that issue is fixed. ### 1/5 — This game is boring *2026-08-14, version 1.0.37* I have played this game for a couple months and quit the game. This game gives the illusion that it’s for free to play or for those that spend low amounts of money on a game. You can create dishes to earn dawnium but players will stop buying them from trading post later in game. This is an idle/gacha game which has players slowly progress unless you spend loads of money on it. Gameplay progress is slow, the amount of time I have played this game per day is 1 hour or less. Dungeons attempts are limited per day. You’re limited on how many resources you can gather at the max of 300 stamina which is hardly enough to progress. Clearing areas can be difficult unless you spend money on the game. Each new dungeon becomes harder to clear which in result has you not clear the difficulty each one has to offer when a new dungeon unlocks every 2 weeks. You do not get enough shards in time unless you’re a big spender and do the hardest difficulty each time a new dungeon unlocks. Relics do help increase your power but you’ll have to spend a lot to get more power. The lucky statue is a relic that helps increase your chance of getting a gear drop or double shards when each gear requires 100 shards to craft, but it has barely helped me in inquiring gear or double shard drops. You can get gear that is required for your class from auction house but it comes at a price of spending $100 or more depending how much a pack of luminium is, then the gear will be replaced once you do the next dungeon that has higher power gear. Which will have you spend even more money. You can get divine craft stone to re-roll certain stats but it is only by luck to get the stats you want which can cost a lot of divine craft stone if you’re one of the unlucky ones. The only way to get xp is by unlocking statues that gives idle experience, which you have to wait from hours to a day. Tournaments and arena have become boring because of players that spend a lot on the game. They always get the better rewards that you receive from them. I can never get into nexus tournament because the same 4 players team up in each team and get in the top 8 which leaves the rest of us which, as in hundreds or less players depending on server unable to compete and get the chance of getting the outfits from it and divine craft stone. Gems are have become harder to upgrade. You barely get enough gems from whaleback island,split mirage, sky tower and loong haven. The gems have a chance to fail to increase the tier. Events don’t even give enough rewards to progress and power up in game. We don’t even get an event to get gems. This game is not for free to play or people who spend little amounts on a game.
