Slow and confusing. This program seems to be much faster. The only confusing part was trying the free version where you could see the options like backup only one way, but couldn't select them. It has great features like the ability to sync in many different ways between the two different folders, either on your system or on an external device like a USB drive or to cloud storage. It also has file and folder filters so you can actually select what type of files and what folders get backed up and what are excluded from the backup. There is also a preview mode showing what will be synced before you do the sync. ### 5/5 — Reliable and straightforward for cold backups *2026-05-08, version 5.1* I have been using Sync Folders Pro since March 2021, and it has been incredibly useful. I mainly use it to sync folders from my Mac to a USB-attached hard drive for cold backups. Before finding this, I tried several other apps that didn't quite meet my needs. I expected this one might be the same, but I was pleasantly surprised. From the very start, it was easy to use and not confusing at all. It just works. While I trust Time Machine as my primary backup tool, I’ve found it can be corrupted (I learned the hard way). I would love the option to sync my SSD with my cloud services but the Dropbox and pCloud folders are not selectable. I've seen apps come and go. This one's a keeper. I’m happy to report that Sync Folders Pro works well. Nothing beats an external hard drive for backup (speed and portability) and let’s face it, who needs more stress and worry in their life? I weed out the obvious dups, then use the preview mode to spot missing or corrupted files. It is fast and efficient. Support has been patchy and ineffective. None of the usual delete/restore/reboot has been effective. Never trusting you again, (Insert every insult possible here) Amateurs. ### 1/5 — Works well once you figure out how to set it up *2025-12-29, version 4.7.7* While the user interface can be a bit challenging to set up, once done, it works great for syncing folders in the manner of your choosing as there are several options. What I use it for is syncing my photos on my Mac. Given the issues with MacOS and its occasional eccentric and flaky operation, I choose to keep my photo library on an external drive to insure I will not lose it due to MacOS issues that historically has wiped my data without warning. However having the photo library on external storage creates issues with using them for desktop wallpaper. So I keep the main photo library on an external drive and use Sync Folders Pro to sync it to my boot drive. So if something happens to my boot drive as it has historically, my photo library is intact on the external drive. ### 1/5 — Perfect until Tahoe *2025-11-23, version 4.7.7* I have used this app for a number of years. Sync files to external drive perfectly. Upgraded to Tahoe on my new Mac Studio, now it will not work. Did not install correctly, missing files in Library. Support has not been too helpful so far. It worked and was simple and quick to use ### 1/5 — Erased A 350GB Excluded Folder (Do Not Sync Folder) *2025-04-01, version 4.7.6* Sync Folders Pro erased a Mobile Sync Folder, containing all of our iPhone backups. This folder is on the Exclude List (Do Not Sync List). I watched in horror as the folder disappeared. Fortunately, I was testing this app only on one back up drive so I still have 5 copies. No, I would not trust this app! ### 1/5 — Lost everything *2024-09-05, version 4.7.5* From time to time files were missing, I had to copy them back from one drive to the other. Now thinks to the auto synch I lost 10TB of data! The application fails to load (with rotating kalaedoscope) and I have to force quit. DSupport does not work, just get an error message. Love it ! ### 5/5 — Game Changer *2026-06-17, version 5.1.1* The golden rule for working digitally is to create a backup of the files you are working on. But when do you actually do this? If you are like me and just forget, then this is the app for you. It is utterly brilliant and has saved me on more times than I care to remember. I have a folder on my desktop with all of my files in. This is backed up by Sync Folders Pro to an external drive I carry with me, which automatically backs up all the work I do in that folder. As soon as I am plugged into my home network, it auto-copies to a larger home NAS drive (or another external drive), so I now have 3 folders where the work sits. I will only ever go to the external drive if I get a corruption or delete a file by mistake.
