### 2/5 — Used to be a Favorite

*2024-02-17*

This used to be one of my favorite Hue apps. However, it’s been rendered useless to me because I can’t seem to log in. I even tried to re-purchase the app (for a third time) just so I could use it…but it won’t allow me to. So on one hand, it says I must subscribe…and on the other, it says I already have. No response from the developer and their Twitter (X) account is apparently suspended. What a bummer.

### 3/5 — Please update. I lost all my stuff 😞

*2023-04-30, version 3.3.5*

Please please update this app. I know it’s been a long time but I can’t even log in anymore and access all my work. I’ve spent countless hours on it and love this app

### 2/5 — What happened to this app?!

*2022-01-15, version 3.3.5*

This was by far my absolute favorite third party app for my Philips Hue bulbs. The time people spent on creating these for movies must have been insane. However, after almost a year without being able to use my lights, I set them up & tried to play a movie but nothing works. The Twitter account for the app has been suspended also. Is there still support for this app / should it still function?? Please my kids loved this with Disney movies!

### 3/5 — Needs update

*2021-03-02, version 3.3.5*

We need updates to the library. This app is fantastic except it hasn’t updated in at least a year. I paid my subscription fee and never got new movies or shows loaded. I’m frustrated with it for this reason.

### 3/5 — Nice idea but timing is off

*2021-01-09, version 3.3.5*

I tried to use this for Age of Ultron on Disney+ and unfortunately they don’t sync based on time and it’s very frustrating trying to pause them and sync.

### 2/5 — Works but lack of selection

*2020-12-09, version 3.3.5*

It actually works kinda well. But thee isn’t really a high selection and it rely’s on the community making light recipes and uploading them for a free year. So if people get bored and don’t upload there will be no new films to watch with light shows.

### 2/5 — DOA

*2020-10-31, version 3.3.5*

This app has not been updated in couple of years. I tried to open it and renewed my subscription. It wil not change lights along with the light script.

### 2/5 — Good idea, flawed execution

*2019-12-13, version 3.3.5*

This is a great idea, but the choice of films is slightly limited, and some work much better than others. You really need to plug your phone in to use it, otherwise it will go to sleep and everything gets out of sync. It’s a fiddle to get it started at the right moment too.
The final straw is that you can now use Hue Sync, with either a computer or the slightly expensive HDMI Sync box, which does a much better job than this, rendering it somewhat superfluous.
A good idea, just not slick enough, and now there are better solutions available.

### 2/5 — Good idea but that’s where it stops

*2019-11-04, version 3.3.5*

Good idea but needs to sync with movies and songs better than just hitting play at the same time. I can’t make any myself as I don’t have Twitter so would like an email sign up. Not quick enough effects. Also how do you turn off auto renew?

### 1/5 — Cool Concept Hindered by Self-Imposed Limitations

*2019-08-21, version 3.3.5*

FOLLOW-UP (08.20.19): Still no update in 10 months and now the app doesn't even work at all with my Hue system. No lights, nothing. At this point it's basically a scam. I'll be requesting a refund.

-------------

FOLLOW-UP (04.24.19): Not a single update in over 6 months to fix any of the issues that hinder this app's use. Library still annoyingly small. This was a cool idea for an app, but when the devs appear to have given up on it, it's time to move on. Don't give this app your money. It just isn't worth it, unfortunately.

-------------

Love the idea, and when it works, the effect is incredibly cool. But there are several shortcomings that I’m afraid negates any positive traits the app has.

First of all, there’s the “player.” Scrolling through a tiny bar on the bottom of the app is next to impossible to use to navigate to your desired time. When you inevitably miss the mark, you then have to click the plus or minus signs to add or subtract time, one second at a time. You can’t even hold down one of those buttons to rapidly scrub through time! And I would think the most convenient feature to implement would be the ability to manually type in the time code you wish to jump to.

Speaking of scrubbing, there are zero scrubbing options for how quickly your thumb moves through the timeline, which would certainly help with accuracy.

Finally, there’s the actual selection. Woof. It’s pretty abysmal, all things considered. But it would probably be in MUCH better shape if there were ways to sign into a profile and begin adding your own projects other than through signing up using Twitter. Huh?? How does that make any sense?! This app could truly have been great, but as it is, it’s not worth the asking price. Pass.

### 1/5 — Big glitch

*2019-08-17, version 3.3.5*

I don’t know why but as soon as I press the hue bridge button the app turns off and won’t let me open it ever after that , I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled it but I get the same result and I even bought a year long subscription and it still does the same thing ,so in my experience this app is crap !

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2019-05-10, version 3.3.5*

I really wanted to this app to work well because I would love to create syncs for a ton of movies, however, the creation system and interface is so tedious and user unfriendly that I cant stand to make what I want. My suggestions would be to allow creations to be made from a computer and allow millisecond selection for timestamps.
I think if they had a better system for creation and a better way to sync up with movies (audio sync doesnt work) this app could be great.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2019-04-19, version 3.3.5*

Set everything up with this app and hit play. Lights literally stayed off through the countdown. This app just doesn’t do anything

### 1/5 — Did I just waste my money?

*2019-01-26, version 3.3.5*

So every recipe requires a subscription, I make the in app purchase and hit play. Nothing happens. I go into my lights and enable all the corresponding lights and hit play again. Again. Nothing happens. I check the faq, not one single question in regards to this so I guess I'm the first person to encounter this issue. I don't use Twitter so I can't get support.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2019-01-22, version 3.3.5*

It would be good if the app would let us know where to find the movie ie: Netflix or Amazon etc.
When I find a movie to watch on the app I spend a long time looking for a movie only to find out neither has it on their list. It’s mostly kids movies and game of thrones. Great if you’re a kid who likes game of thrones.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2019-01-13, version 3.3.5*

Why can’t I hear the music through my phone??

### 2/5 — Not quite...

*2019-01-01, version 3.3.5*

It does what it says... changes the lights. However remember the “recipes” are made by every day users.
One odd thing I noticed was the timing of the app slipped behind. So while watching the film, the time stamps always fell out of sync.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned

*2026-02-20, version 3.3.5*

Truly sad how you can throw away like it’s nothing the countless hours your users spent making this app what it was. This app was something special when it still worked.

### 1/5 — Paid can’t connect

*2025-05-18, version 3.3.5*

Paid and can’t connect. Found out x has banned the app

### 1/5 — bring this app back!

*2025-03-31, version 3.3.5*

my all-time favorite third party app! we miss it so much, i’d love to see it make its comeback!

### 1/5 — Needs to be updated

*2024-10-21, version 3.3.5*

The “lights” section to add the bridge or lights is not working and there is no way to contact through the app so this is the only way to reach out.

### 1/5 — Core features don’t work

*2024-08-16, version 3.3.5*

After the app found my hue bridge and i selected it, it instantly crashed the app and continued crashing.

Happy to change my review if the devs fix this but it seems like this app isn’t being maintained anymore. Any chance of open-sourcing this?

### 1/5 — Abandoned App

*2023-01-05, version 3.3.5*

No update in over 4 years. No longer connects to Hue Bridge and doesn’t work at all.

### 1/5 — Sketchy at best — feels more like a scam

*2020-12-29, version 3.3.5*

1. App won’t sync with bridge.
2. Support directs you to their twitter account — which has been suspended for violating Twitters TOS. No other means to reach them is provided.
3. FAQ states movies in the global list are free without subscription, except if you select any of them, they require a subscription.
4. Very sketchy is the best review I can give — but that’s pretty generous. This outfit appears to be running a scam.

### 1/5 — crash

*2020-11-23, version 3.3.5*

it crashes when i open it

### 1/5 — Bugs

*2020-06-09, version 3.3.5*

Crashes every time I try to open.

### 1/5 — App stopped working

*2020-01-06, version 3.3.5*

One of new newer hue bulbs, or a hue firmware update has caused this app to stop working. It crashes upon connecting to my Hue bridge. If I disable WiFi, or re-instal the app it will launch fine, but as soon as it re-authenticates with the bridge, it crashes.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2020-05-02, version 3.3.5*

I absolutely love this app! I wish I would use it more often then I do, as I sometimes forget to check if there is an available recipe for the movie I watched! Great job dev!

Of side note, notifications for newly added recipes would be great!

### 5/5 — Very good

*2019-03-26, version 3.3.5*

Wow just what i was looking for as i don't have a PC its not bad paying a small fee for the year. Not sure how accurate it is but end of the day thats the best you going to get.

### 5/5 — Truly surprised!

*2019-03-10, version 3.3.5*

I have to say I was skeptical about this app as others have disappointed. I hope the library continues to grow as well as more directional light for entertainment setups. But for the price of the app and so simple to link and use, I couldn’t be more pleased. I also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with the developer of the app and truthfully don’t ever leave reviews. Great job and keep growing the library!

### 5/5 — Great app for movie lovers

*2018-07-24, version 3.3.2*

Excellent and works really well with the Hue Lightstrip behind my TV. Adds extra immersion to the movies.

### 5/5 — Perfect again with latest update

*2018-05-14, version 3.3*

Background operation is back and best part of this app. All is good again.

### 5/5 — Better

*2018-05-14, version 3.3*

Much better experience syncing. Still, I’d like the clock bar to be easier to adjust with your finger. It’s too easy to mess up. Other than that, much improvement! I finally feel the cost is justified. However, I’m worried creators will make garbage syncs like a tablet commercial just to get the year free.

### 5/5 — Great start

*2018-02-18, version 3.2*

Just watched my first movie last night. Love the idea and can't wait to see more "light tracks" for other movies.

### 5/5 — I’m confused.

*2017-12-11, version 3.0*

Yes, I love this app, however, it doesn’t have a superb rating, is it because of a misunderstanding? Someone else who uses this app told me that if you create a recipe for this app you do not have to pay for it, whereas if you do not make a recipe you do pay for it.

Is this true?

If it is true, the people who do not know this will definitely be upset over a mishap in communication. Perhaps the app creators should clarify this to its users. If this is not true, I have just made this a lot more confusing and I am sorry.

I hope Sync My Lights can regain it’s sound reputation again.

### 5/5 — Movie enthusiasts rejoice!!!

*2017-11-20, version 3.0*

An app that submerses, surrounds, and puts you into the movie. Whether you have one hue light or 20, these user created recipes are fun to follow along as you watch your favorite movies.
If you can’t find your favorite movie within the database, the ‘Create’ your own feature is so easy to use!!! No coding or anything complex, just pick your color and time sequence and your good to go.

### 5/5 — Great idea and works well.

*2017-04-08, version 2.3*

I'm just glad that an app for this exists and is easy to use and share. 5 starts in hopes more people see it and use it.
