Your answers prompt you for the next card, and there is a kind of game for finding the next card. In addition there are actual stages or learning flow to “the cards.” You start out with English to Italian — or whatever the language you are targeting -- and then move to Italian only. There is real pedagogy in the way the app works, how the categories are arranged and related, and how you move through the progressive stages. You don’t have to start with stage 1. If you want to do everything in Italian Stage 3 or 4, then you can skip to that level. So it’s flexible for how you want to learn. Audio is done with native speakers, not text-to-speech digital voices. Very nice interface. There is real interactivity, not just flipping the card. Intuitive to operate. Great graphics. And there is help and guidance, as well. Someone paid a lot of attention to detail in this app. 12 categories that cover lots of topics like housed and interior, the body, animals, plants, transport, visual and performaing arts, home and interior, at work, musical instruments – some of the topics are not normally found in basic vocabulary flash card apps . Very robust. And there is also a 2nd App (or level 2) with even more vocabulary. This app is a great deal for its amazing price. ### 5/5 — Incredible! *2013-02-07* This app is AMAZING. I have learned so much vocabulary from it. The best part is that it's easy and FUN. It's like a game, really. There's pictures, pronunciation and writing, so the vocab gets engraved into your memory both visually and with sound. It gets harder as you go so it keeps you on your toes. I have a bunch apps for language learning and this one definitely makes the top five. I would recommend it to anyone who wants or needs to learn vocabulary in a foreign language. I am a German living in the US and I am trying to teach German to my two sons (5 & 7) whose native language is English. I am using this app along with some other teaching tools (books, worksheets, etc.) The advantages of this app (compared to other similar apps in the App Store or traditional paper flash cards): 1. The app has 4 stages that progresses nicely from one level (easy) to the next (more difficult). 2. Audio, pictures, and written words are used… very helpful (some people have visual memory where pictures are very helpful). 3. Sort of a game concept (4 stages, timed, smiley face, fun)…. which keeps you coming back to use the app – 4. Very simple to use. 5. Very motivational (even if you make a mistake you can move on). This app even works with my 5 year old son who can’t read or write yet… Of course you won’t be fluent in German (or any other languages this product offers) by just using this app – I rather see this as an excellent additional teaching tool. I am also looking forward for an upgrade of this app since it has around 500 basic words (German/English) at the moment.
