I’m running it on an iPhone 17 so it’s not like my phone is old. If the app won’t even open, we’re not off to a very good start so decided to just delete it and move onto something else. **Developer response:** Sorry about that - an app that won't even start is the worst possible first impression. That was version 2.4, and a lot has changed in the releases since. If you ever give Taalhammer another try, we'd be glad to have you back. Łukasz, Taalhammer ### 1/5 — Too Many Mistakes *2026-06-06* I just started A1 Norwegian in the app (I already know the basics) and there were immediate mistakes, which ruined my trust moving forward. I will be deleting this app because while I can point out mistakes in A1, when I move up in levels, how can I know what is a mistake or not? ### 2/5 — No real thought went into this *2026-09-17* Don’t bother with a subscription. The app is horribly organized with no real progression and seems to entirely rely on selling their live classes for any real direction or learning. Given the dev response I should have pushed for my fee back, still might **Developer response:** To set the record straight: Taalhammer has never offered live classes, and nothing in the app depends on them — it's built entirely for self-study. We suspect this review may have been meant for a different app. Progression in Taalhammer comes from the Core courses, which take you level by level, with spaced repetition scheduling what you review and when. The generated stories are often very formally written and dry. They don’t test conversational Spanish the way that it is spoken in day to day speech. Integration with Google Gemini or ChatGPT’s latest models wouldn’t dramatically improve the experience and easily turn this into one of the best apps around for language learning **Developer response:** Thank you — fair point that generated stories could sound too formal for everyday Spanish. The story generator has changed a lot since your review, and we keep working on making the language sound natural. - Łukasz, Taalhammer ### 3/5 — Could be excellent *2025-12-29* I love the concept and this method has the potential to be truly outstanding for acquiring a foreign language effectively and efficiently. But, there are just too many mistakes already at the beginner level in German. For example: Das ist ihre Schule. Es ist ihre. The second sentence is so wrong, I had a hard time believing my eyes. Novice German language learners can spot it. The creator of the app clearly did not do the proper quality assurance with a native speaker. I found other mistakes too and reported them. If these issues are fixed, this would be a great app that uses the efficiency of the Glossika method, but without the random sentences and the audio quality issues that plague Glossika. I’m looking forward to an error free version of Taalhammer for German. **Developer response:** Thank you for the precise example and for reporting the errors you found — that's exactly what helps. Since then we've been correcting the beginner content continuously. If you come across anything else, the "report a problem" button on the flashcard sends us the exact sentence, so we can react quickly. Łukasz, Taalhammer ### 5/5 — Hidden Gem Language App *2025-12-26* This app is one of the best language learning apps on the market. It uses SRS (Spaced Repetition System) really well, helping you ingrain info better than apps like Duolingo, Memrise, Babbel, or Busuu. The method here is cool - they use SRS with sentences, not just individual words, so you get more context and are more likely to memorize and use the words. They also begin to combine sentences you’ve memorized into short stories you can play on the go, reinforcing what you've learned. They're adding tons of new features, have more languages than other apps, and a simple interface. You can even use AI to build custom decks based on your preferred topics. Overall, it's one of the best ways to learn - and I've tried almost every app out there.
