## What is Tabiya?

Tabiya trains your chess openings the way you'll use them: on the board.

Each day it picks the moves that are due and asks you to play them. Play the right move and it comes back later: in 1, 3, 9, 21, then 60 days. Miss it and it comes back at the end of the session, and again tomorrow. A few minutes a day keeps your repertoire fresh.

YOUR REPERTOIRE
• Start from a ready-made opening, or bring your own: a PGN file or a Lichess study link.
• Play White or Black. Only your side's moves are trained. The other side's replies are played for you.
• New moves come a few a day, from the next line you haven't learned yet.

ON THE BOARD
• Drag or tap your move. A wrong move goes back to its square, and you try again.
• Stuck? Ask for a hint, or see the move.
• Read the author's comment on the move you just played, and open it in full when you want more.

EXPLORE AND SPAR
• Walk your lines move by move.
• Leave the book and Stockfish shows the best move and the evaluation.
• Spar the opening against Stockfish at the strength you pick. The engine runs on your device, offline.
• Add a Lichess token to see the common replies your repertoire doesn't cover yet.

PROGRESS
• A daily streak, a calendar of the days you trained, and how many moves you know in each opening.
• A daily reminder at the time you choose, only on days you haven't trained.

PRIVATE
No account, no ads, no analytics. Your openings and progress stay on your device. Tabiya goes online only for the Lichess features you use.

Works on iPhone and iPad.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-11-06

- Your progress shows from the first session: Repertoire and each opening now count the moves you're still learning next to the ones you know, with a lighter part in the progress bar.
- Until a move is known, the opening page says why: new moves count as known after two reviews on later days.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-11-05

- Look back while you train: tap any move in the line to see the board as it was, then jump back to your move.
- Board coordinates: a rank number and a file letter in the edge squares, turning with the board when you flip it.
- Training flows better: when the next move is in the same line, only your opponent's reply plays, and after a right answer you can play your next move straight away instead of tapping Continue.
- All openings: new moves come a whole line at a time, and your openings take turns day by day.
- Smaller fixes to the comment under the board on small phones.
