### 2/5 — App not easy to use

*2026-01-10*

This app is hard to understand and how to read the paper. They have a printed edition that is only published a few times a week, you can’t click on an article and read it in full so you have to zoom in to read it. But you don’t want to read this edition because it overlaps the eEdition.

Then there’s the eEdition which you read daily and click on the article to read it in full, but only if you don’t get an error and you click retry and never comes up, then you wonder if you read all the news or not?

I like reading other newspapers like The Wall Street Journal or The Daily World (Aberdeen, WA) where it’s only the printed editions and see the format like a regular newspaper but click on the article and read it in full and make font adjustments for easier reading.

Finally, where is the local news? Only an average of 5 local stories for a county population of over 900,000? I want local news to read, you can get all the other news anywhere else on the Internet.

**Developer response:** We are sorry for the experience you're having with the app. Please reach out to us at customerservice@mcclatchy.com with your contact information as we would like the opportunity to help correct.

### 2/5 — Glitching out

*2023-08-04, version 9.2*

For some reason, this app has been glitching out on me for a week or so. I tried crashing the app, then deleting the app and adding it again, restarting my phone, nothing works. I’m a TNT subscriber too. This is quite frustrating.

### 1/5 — App has bugs

*2023-02-10, version 9.1.8*

This used to be a good app but now every time you try to read an article it closes and goes back to the main page. Please fix this or I will probably just uninstall it.

### 1/5 — I would give it a 0 if I could

*2022-08-20*

The latest update has ruined the experience for me. The user interface makes the e edition too small. There is no longer an option to make it fit the screen. The previous versions were far better. This one is not worth the high price of the subscription.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and apologize for the experience with our app. Our development team is looking into this issue and working to resolve it.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work anymore

*2022-07-20, version 9.1.5*

This app doesn’t work anymore. It used to be good. Just like their newspaper. But not anymore!

### 2/5 — Previous version was better

*2022-03-02*

After they revamped the entire app it’s been nothing but problematic. The videos rarely play on my iPad and the app itself randomly and frequently shuts down. The only way to get it to work somewhat properly is to reset my iPad. Before the upgrade there were few if any problems. The only thing that seems to actually work is reading the published paper edition.

**Developer response:** Delete and reinstall the app. If the issue continues, take a video or screenshots and email them to mobile-team@mcclatchyinteractive.com for assistance.

### 1/5 — Never works

*2022-02-19, version 9.1.5*

Latest iPhone and iOS and this app still won’t load content. Not sure what I could be doing wrong. Anybody else having this problem?

### 1/5 — news feeds no longer refresh

*2022-01-05, version 9.1.5*

There isn't even an option to log in. App is broken.

### 1/5 — App no longer loads stories

*2021-10-11, version 9.1.3*

Even after the developers suggestion of clearing the cache, deleting and reinstalling, this app doesn’t load stories. The only thing that happens on the screen is the “processing” circle. The update has broken this app. Very disappointing.

### 1/5 — Not usable anymore

*2021-08-19, version 9.1*

With this update, I can not read the app. It is time to find a new local news source.
I use voiceover on the iphone, voiceover reads the screen, but tnt did not think of voiceover users with this update.

### 1/5 — Horrible Customer Service

*2021-07-31*

I normally would not rate an app based on the companies customer service…But in this case, the two are so intertwined that it’s difficult not to.
The McClatchy Company owns the Tacoma News Tribune and many other newspapers. Their customer service is outsourced. And pretty useless. So…If you need help with your subscription, good luck! They are very eager to up sell services but fail at fixing existing issues.
It really is sad because I’m trying to help a local paper but their mega owner doesn’t seem to care.

### 1/5 — Too touchy and to easily opens stories.

*2021-07-20, version 8.1.0*

Hate this app. HAve given up using it because it is so difficult to move around on an IPad without continuously having to move in and out of stories.

### 1/5 — Horrible access

*2021-06-12, version 8.1.0*

Very in-user friendly site. Can’t make any account changes without having to call sales where they hound you to not make any changes

### 1/5 — No Search Feature????

*2021-05-03, version 8.1.0*

Why can’t you search for articles (past and present) in the app???

### 1/5 — This app is a failure......

*2021-04-29, version 8.1.0*

You cannot even correct your keying mistakes without losing the entire message. Just give me my e-edition like I like it. I’ll end my subscription entirely if I have to endure this miserable app. On what planet did someone think this was a good idea?

### 2/5 — Search option

*2021-01-26, version 8.0.0*

Maybe it’s just me but I can’t find a way to search on the app. I’ll see an article on social media that I want to read and can’t because of the paywall. So I go to the app and can’t find the story. Frustrating.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2021-01-18, version 8.0.0*

This app logs me out of my account all the time. Then when I log in, it logs me back out. I’m trying to support this newspaper!!!

### 2/5 — Lacking search functionality

*2020-12-31, version 7.10.1*

Looks nice, but lacks search functionality, and hyperlinks to other articles within the app point one out of the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Meh

*2026-04-19*

I read the TNT to keep up on local news. What is lacking is true stories from someone who loves this community and it comes through with a way that inspires the reader to also love and engage in Tacoma. Tacoma is so special and the paper should do a better job of reporting with passion. There are so many great things and wonderful work happening in Tacoma. Share it with the reader. Inspire the reader to be in community. Share stories about non profits, that inspire community to get involved.

**Developer response:** Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for your feedback. Please contact us at wecare@mcclatchy.com so we can share this with our news team. Thank you, Customer Care.

### 1/5 — App requires system upgrade that old iPhone pad won’t support

*2026-03-05, version 10.4.0*

I pad won’t support iOS 17. Now I can’t read the paper cause the old app won’t run. Buy new iPad or stop paper? The cost effective solution hurts you. Why are all the nicknames taken?

### 1/5 — Newest McClatchy update cannot be loaded on 5th generation iPad

*2026-03-05, version 10.4.0*

IPadOS Version 17.0 is not available for 5th generation iPads so I don’t have the ability to read the Tacoma News Tribune.

Who can I thank for this great customer service?

### 1/5 — Can no longer use

*2026-03-05, version 10.4.0*

I need a new iPad to use this new upgraded tnt app! I have the 16 and this requires a 17

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work half the time

*2026-01-19, version 10.4.0*

Doesn’t work half the time, opens to a blank page. Better off using the website on your mobile browser.

### 1/5 — Latest app update causes issues in Editions

*2025-12-07, version 10.4.0*

Recent app update glitches on articles in Edition. Articles do not load when hitting the continue arrow at bottom of first paragraph. This is happening on 2 different iPhone 13 pro’s in our house. We deleted and reloaded the app, but no change. Editions is not working.

### 1/5 — Buggy, inconsistent, and unusable

*2025-02-08*

This app is inconsistent, buggy, and unusable. Many pages will not load, regardless of the online connection. Even when the day’s edition is downloaded for offline use, many pages of material will not load. Frustrating, when I have a paid subscription and the only way to access the material is to use a web browser.

**Developer response:** We are sorry for the experience you had with your account. Please reach out to us at customerservice@mcclatchy.com with your contact information as we would like the opportunity to help correct.

Thanks,
Customer Care

### 1/5 — Pages not loading

*2025-01-03*

All of a sudden pages will not load on my iPad. I do not have any other problems with my iPad and now reading the newspaper is a pain and I will see the article in the contents, but I can’t access it. Sometimes when I go back, it will pop up, but other times it will not come up at all. This is only happened since the last Apple updateI think.

### 1/5 — Bunch a crooks

*2023-09-02*

The app and webpage say that you click this link to put a hold on your subscription, but it just takes you around in circles. I did the free trial but didn’t manage ti cancel it because I kept getting distracted before I was able to figure out that I probably just needed to email “customer service.” Email sent, never subscribing to this again.

Update: email sent—microsoft—paraphrased —“after multiple attempts the inbox won’t accept your message”.

**Developer response:** After troubleshooting with our Product team, we don't offer any free trials with in-app subscription purchases for Tacoma. As for "subscription hold," any in-app purchase made on an Apple device can be managed by the user in the App Store, including cancellation. While Android offers a "pause subscription" option in Google Play, Apple does not. To be of more help, where did you purchase your subscription?

### 1/5 — online account tools dont work as advertised

*2023-08-30*

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Not great

*2026-01-03, version 10.4.0*

Hard to navigate around, esp bad on the phone - text enlarges randomly and won’t read horizontally

### 5/5 — Tacoma News Tribune

*2024-03-02*

TNT hates senior citizens. Not all seniors have technology skills and they are cutting back on our paper news to satisfy people who stare at their devices all the time. We are a huge number and being pushed aside like we don’t mean anything to society that wants to force people into only using technology. Technology has gotten out of control example the damage drones can do and it’s only a matter of time before we will be afraid to leave our homes. So ignore the seniors you will probably totally fold before long so TNT employees better start looking for new jobs technology will replace even you.

### 5/5 — TNT

*2019-12-18*

All I want is to have a full size replica of the print newspaper. I read the Seattle Times, The NY Times, and the Washington Post every day in addition to the TNT. I want a full size replica on my IPAD not a 1/4 size one that I cannot figure out how to expand.

Unhappy reader

### 5/5 — Poor interface

*2019-10-12*

I do not like this app at all, jumps all over and makes it difficult to read the whole story. It is also hard to make the font larger and get the whole article you are trying to read.

### 5/5 — Up to date

*2018-05-14*

I get the news from TNT before the actual news channels release the news

### 5/5 — Best HS sports coverage

*2017-10-11*

I particularly love TNT's high school sports coverage. Best of any newspaper on the state with their all-state teams and All-Area teams. Awesome feature stories and profiles on local athletes and they do highlight videos from games. I'm always looking for their Northwest Nuggets recruiting package, Western 100 and the Untouchables wrestling team.

### 4/5 — No notifications any more

*2020-12-31*

Great local news. I’m a print subscriber, and while it’s nice to get the paper in hand, the news is usually a couple of days old by that point, so it’s good to have the TNT app to read local news as it happens.
It’s a shame though that they no longer push any notifications on the app. To get breaking local news I have to rely on the Seattle Times app, which does notifications.

### 4/5 — Not bad for a local news source

*2017-09-06, version 6.0.5*

The ads aren't too bad and he coverage is pretty decent. Can't ask for much more from a local news app.

### 3/5 — Notifications seems to be broken

*2018-09-27, version 7.1.0*

Push notifications from the app seem to only open the app and don’t open the story from the notification.

### 3/5 — Horrible app

*2018-03-19, version 6.2.1*

Very limited app. Cannot manage your subscription from it and it only shows bits and pieces of the actual paper. Worthless.
