Lots of features I wish it could incorporate such as maneuver graphic templates that can be easily added and dropped. This is not something that exists with the additional cost of “drawing” feature. Drawing is quirky and locks to spots, making it very difficult to make small edits. The maneuver graphics in the description photos are misleading for this. There’s no way to add simple arrows, just drawing straight lines or curved lines. I’d like there to be a feature that allows for long pressing a location in order to pull a grid or select that grid to allow quick addition of positions or graphics. It would be tremendously easier to manipulate this app with just these simple features. **Developer response:** Hey Cruzbm02, Brother, thank you for the detailed review — and more importantly, thank you for your service. I really appreciate the honesty in your feedback, even if it’s a 2-star review. Everything you mentioned is valid, and I hear you loud and clear. You’re right that the drawing mode can be a little quirky (that’s why I made it free in the last update), and that maneuver graphics and templates would make the app much easier to use. Those are important improvements, and they’re on the way. I’ve already noted each of your points in my priority tracker so I can work them into future updates. Just to be transparent — I’m the sole designer and manager of TACNAV-X, and have been since I created it in Afghanistan. It’s supported by a very small dev team, and I fund development through my Army retirement and app revenue. So progress can be slower than I’d like. I don’t have the resources of the ATAK/TAK team or a big Army contract behind me, but I promise I’m doing everything I can to keep improving the app for guys in the field and other users. Not making excuses — just being real with you and laying it out so you and others understand what goes on behind the scenes. As you probably already know, this app started as a personal project when I was an FSO in the Pech and Korengal as a targeting tool after two of our soldiers were killed in action. For the last 15 years, I’ve been building it out to meet the needs of fires, maneuver, and other MOSs. Feedback like yours helps guide me in the right direction. Lastly, sorry for the length of this response. But bottom line — you’re heard, you’re appreciated, and I give you my word I’ll do my best to get your input integrated into TACNAV-X as soon as I can. I would love to see, if possible, a feature where you can add photos from the device gallery. I like you can draw graphics on the app and can share them to a buddy so you are using this app for ATAK you can use it with your buddy or a team. The only thing I think it needs improvement is that a terrain map should be added to the app to see the terrain better. I find that a satellite map doesn’t show the terrain detail I would get from a terrain or Topo map. ### 5/5 — Absolutely love this app. *2024-11-05* If you’re a Detachment Commander, officer or just starting your military career, get this app. Offline maps and drawing tool is just superbly a must for mission planning. I wanted to share my thoughts about Tactical NAV because I was impressed when Captain Springer, the app's creator, took the time to email me directly in response to my inquiry about a new feature he's working on. Since Jonathan made the effort to provide me with a detailed response, I felt it was only fair to offer my honest assessment of the app. Tactical NAV is truly impressive! It provides everything we need for mission planning and setting up overlays, and its offline functionality is particularly noteworthy. I've personally verified its accuracy, which rivals the DAGR and Falcon View, accurate to less than a meter. Some of my mortar guys have used this app to plan and verify targets during a recent FTX that involved some live fire training. To wrap this up, I wholeheartedly recommend Tactical NAV to anyone in the military, regardless of branch. However, for fellow infantry soldiers like myself, this app is an absolute necessity. I used to use MilGPS, but TACNAV has won me over with its feature set and its ease of use, along with its customer service. Jonathan has created the best app outside of ATAK, and I can’t wait to see what Tactical NAV will do in the near future. If you’re on the fence, don’t hestiate. Just buy it. You can’t go wrong. Opaque user interface. Sluggish performance and no added functionality over millions of similar competitor applications. Worst of all, there’s a new meaningless update literally multiple times a week that this developer has chosen to require users to install before continuing to use the app. Users should at least have the option to decline an update, particularly from as lackluster and incompetent of a programmer as this developer has demonstrated theirself to be. I would never in a million years use this in any application while deployed and I regret having bought the premium version. ### 1/5 — Scam *2022-08-18, version 3.9.7* I don’t understand why I have to purchase a dlc to be able to draw on this, and then you have to purchase a SUBSCRIPTION to see maps without Wi-Fi/data. This whole app is just a money scam. There’s plenty more apps that do all this with a 1 time payment, if any payment at all! ### 1/5 — Deception! *2021-07-23* I bought this app because at the end of the day I’m all for the boys! I want to give back to our community as much as I can! I’m a Sgt in the Marine Corps currently serving as a combat instructor with Advanced Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Geiger, NC. We train senior NCOs to be warfighters. I was looking for an offline-map tool to help me quickly and accurately build geometries of fire within an AO and show it to our studs. After happily paying 8.99 to support a brother in arms, I found out that in order to get all the features from the app I have to pay extra money for the drawing tools and sign a monthly subscription for offline mode! I support a family of 4 with sergeant’s pay, and felt like a fellow service member deceived me and took advantage of good marketing! I go to the field at least two weeks every month, and without service this app is useless to me. **Developer response:** Pedroralmeida, Hey brother, thank you for posting this review. After reading, your review spoke to me personally because I also used to be an NCO (SGT) before going to OCS and joining the officer side. So, I understand precisely where you're coming from here. Will ### 5/5 — Helped with locating casualty *2025-08-16, version 5.0.7* Was working in rural remote australia without reception and came across a vehicle rollover offline mode allowed me to get co-ordinates to emergency services for ambulance, firefighters and police. also a lifesaver for Land Nav and planning routes with heaps of icons relevant to the military 10/10 would recommend, digga proof worth the money for sure ### 5/5 — Great features and usability *2025-07-23* Really enjoying this app. It has three things I really wish MilGPS had: tighter MGRS grids when you zoom in (MilGPS stops at 100m grid squares, TACNAV goes to 10m), free drawing on maps, and accurate military markers! Sure, MilGPS has icons you can customize, but none of them are standard NATO markers! So you have to remember your own reasons for certain markers existing, instead of being able to rely on what already exists and is standardized. This app seems to have all the features available in other apps, while also recognizing (and providing) precision and consistency with what is established. Everything you could want and more!
