Taigi is an offline app for Taiwanese (台語), built on the Taiwan Ministry of Education's open dataset《臺灣台語常用詞辭典》. On the dictionary side, every entry comes paired with its Mandarin gloss and a Mandarin example translation, with all audio bundled or downloadable so you can look up and listen entirely offline. On the learning side, you start from listening drills for pronunciation and work through the 700 most common characters, one at a time. WORKS ON IPHONE, IPAD, MAC, AND APPLE VISION PRO All free to download and fully offline. A one-time upgrade unlocks on every device signed in with the same Apple ID (Universal Purchase). What's New in Taiwanese

3.1.0

August 21, 2026

- History is now part of Search. Tap the search field to see your full browsing history, swipe to delete single entries, or clear it all at once. The iPhone tab bar has one fewer tab; the iPad and Mac sidebars keep theirs. - The nasalized rimes chart now lists all 9 common ones, following the Ministry of Education Tai-lo handbook, and the heading reads -nn. Thanks to the reader who wrote in. - Phoneme charts now show the full Tai-lo reading of each example character, with the part you are learning marked by color and weight, so an example is no longer misread as the phoneme itself. - Study: new characters are now drawn at random from the 100 you have not learned yet, instead of always starting from the top of the reading order. - Study: the pronunciation section is collapsed when you check an answer, and the play button now sits next to the correct answer. - Fixed the card count in Start Learning being clipped on Mac. - The camera button on the search screen is less prominent.
