Takaua is a companion, mate, colleague, or better yet, as a kaungāme'a or tākanga. This app is meant to be a first-hand helper, companion and pal in learning the Tongan language. It is not only for Tongans, but also for non-Tongan speakers. Takaua will be the first app we turn to for enrichening our knowledge of Tongan language and culture. This new app is an innovative new tool created in efforts to sustain the Tongan language. It is designed to enable young people to learn the Tongan language and culture at their own pace, and in their own time, from anywhere in the world. It includes information on the Tongan alphabet, national anthem, Lord’s prayer, numbers, pronunciation, seasons, colours, prayers and hymns. Additionally, a series of videos on cultural protocols have been included, discussing the structure of Tongan family, extended family or kainga, core values, respect, as well as the roles and responsibilities of family members. What most people look for in apps like these are full sentence and to be more fluent and have conversation with others. For me, I go to church with micros, polys, meleneisans, Asian and more and most of them can speak Tongan. For my case I wish I could have conversation with them and understand Tongan but I can’t. this app was my last resort and to say, it’s pretty good app. I learnt a lot from here and soeak words from here.
