Chess players have a constantly shifting sleep schedule that chess fans do not. It’s great to see an effort to provide access to current events in chess. Like ESPN meets Chess. Impressive work has been put in and it’s fun to go through games and hopefully learn a thing or two. where the app falls short is with certain UI/UX decisions and overall direction. -Don’t put tiktok or snapchat things on here, keep those for those respective platforms. -The font is nice and unique but quite bold especially when trying to read game notes. -trying to go through games is not easy and the board is either too small or too big. too much noise in general. it’s tough to navigate the app. this app can be everything it’s trying to be eventually, but right now to start there should be more focus on the main purpose of the app which is to follow and recap current masters games. ### 3/5 — Good Idea - Needs Refinement *2025-05-20* I love the idea of a 433 style of app with chess with player ratings and different posts on the main feed for various kinds of events, updates, videos, and games. The UI design is very well done, albeit with minor bugs, and the theme is spot on. The app takes a slight downturn when comes to accessibility and UX. Why can’t I individually search for players? Instead I have to either choose from a seemingly arbitrary picked list of “favorites” or scroll endlessly through the chess rankings to find my actual favorite players, (eg. Grischuk, Kramnik, Kasparov). There’a no profile system where you can link with friends, no flushed out settings system, and not a place to contact for support, bugs, etc. Otherwise: really cool and interesting idea but still needs some refinement to be amazing to use ### 4/5 — Very good, small mistake, maybe? *2025-04-21, version 1.0.17* Technically when I view the board, all the pieces are mixed up, but I don’t know if it’s a mistake or not ### 2/5 — It’s a great app but it make my phone go crazy *2025-04-04, version 1.0.15* All in on, it’s a very great app. It gives all the stats on time. We have some videos dropping in here in the app. Everything is cool the guess the movie feature everything is great, but it takes a toll on your phone every time I use this app my phone seats and last time I use this app my phone got hand like crazy and it got shut down and I started it and I don’t know what bug or virus got into my phone my Wi-Fi and working at all I had to factory reset my phone. The layout is easy to understand, it looks modern, and guess the move is a pretty engaging feature. However, if it TTT wants to be the go-to place for chess, it needs to be able to show brackets and standings properly, so it needs to accommodate all the various tournament formats that are commonly used. Those basics just need to be nailed down, so you don’t need to awkwardly shuffle over to the FIDE website to discover what’s actually happening in the tournament. I’ll keep using it and upgrade to 5* once it’s there. You can’t share games with your friends (though that would bring more people onto the app,) you can’t look up games by tournament, player, or year, and you can’t see the engine lines live from the app, you’re only shown the top three moves of each game. There are many ways to improve on making the chess more accessible, which is something that has made chess more popular in the first place, and would make the app more popular than it is now. There’s more YouTube feed and pictures of tournament winners than there is actual chess to follow. I mean, there is a tab where you can guess the winner of a game or the next move on certain games, but there’s no option to analyze board positions of random players. Also, the website only posts the video feed from the app, it doesn’t have the collection of games and standings from recent tournaments like the app does. Having David Howell on your YouTube channel only makes your YouTube channel better, it doesn’t make your app or website better. Please improve the UI, and please don’t ever make people pay for this. I've enormous respect for the player you are but you're a pathological narcissist. ### 1/5 — Unreliable *2024-12-31, version 1.0.13* Updated to 1 star after Magnus sabotaged the world blitz final. Sometimes the eval gets stuck and I feel like I’m watching a balanced game when in reality it’s a winning position. It’s really too bad. It’s a great app. But it’s just way too glitchy and inaccurate. I have to quit and reopen the app a lot. Also, they have their own coverage but their YouTube channel only cares about Magnus games. I love Magnus but would also like to know how others are doing in the tournament. Isn’t that the point of the app? To track all my favourite players? Alas I’m back to good ol trusty Lichess. Works on mobile, but even on mobile is an inferior product compared to chess.com watch function. Women matches are completely ignored. When I decided to uninstall, couldn’t find an option to delete my account. I can’t speak to the level of commentary on games because I’m not interested in casual commentary, what I do want is an easy and quick place to see the games of top players when I’m not at a computer, which is the draw of the app for me. It’s supposed to let you follow top chess in one place and give you a list of players you can decide to follow, and when they play games it will appear in your app. However so far they’ve only covered choice events (recently just the WC despite Caruana, Abdusattorov, and Erigasi all playing games daily) and completely ignored the games of the players they put in the app with the option to follow. This is definitely my favorite feature of the app. Though sometimes the annotators make typos or, like in the Pragg v Duda game in the Sinquefield cup, Duda suddenly became Abdusattorov! ### 5/5 — Great app, still some flaws *2025-08-09* ‘Take Take Take’ is a great app, it really allows you to dive into parts of chess without visiting all sorts of websites. But the app can definitely be improved. That's basically what it does and it does it well. But I'm hoping in the near future we will be able to move the pieces around and flip the board, just like we can do on chess.com or lichess. Especially when following 960 games, it's not always clear why someone resigned or played a certain move -- we would like to analyze further.
