### 3/5 — Good platform, bad app

*2023-10-01*

The takelessons concept and platform is 5 stars. The app needs a major overhaul. Can’t even see a longer message when chatting with students. It’s better than the current 1.6 stars but they have a lot of work to do.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2022-08-22, version 2.19.0*

The app does not work properly and forces users onto their website. Don’t download the app, just use their website.

### 2/5 — I like TakeLessons but I hate their app

*2021-01-27, version 2.17.0*

I’ve been teaching with TakeLessons for about a year and a half now. They’ve really helped me in my marketing by getting me new students. Their app is full of bugs. Like when I try to recommend a different time slot to new students it tells me to select a date and time even though I have a date and time selected.

Honestly it looks like they paid a low quality developer to make the app and it shows.

Really wish they would update it and make it something to be proud of.

### 1/5 — Fraud

*2021-01-24, version 2.17.0*

I wanted to start teaching while being at home and I saw a video on ig about this app and I downloaded, after a while of making my account and paying for “background check”. I received my first notification that someone was looking for a teacher for a little girl, it was a man saying that was the father of the little girl, thing that’s not true, they tried to scam me, making a huge story up. don’t trust this app. I’m not sure if they made this app a only to make for this but i almost get scam. This is fraud.

### 1/5 — Spam farm

*2019-09-02, version 2.17.0*

I’ve had enough of this app! I keep getting scam/spam messages and NOT ONCE have I gotten an appointment. Even if I never got an appointment, the scam/spam is the part that is making it worse. I didn’t pay $ to have my information available to scammers...

### 1/5 — Needs to be updated

*2019-07-04, version 2.17.0*

This app really needs to be optimized for more current phones. It also needs to integrate some features that are on the website that can’t be found here. It’s frustrating to work with.

### 1/5 — App on iPhone X doesn’t function well

*2019-05-16, version 2.17.0*

I couldn’t select “teach in studio” option in my subject page. On the website I can select both teach online and in studio, but in iPhone app, only “teach online” and “travel to teach” could be saved while the “in home” couldn’t.

### 1/5 — Needs to be current

*2018-06-15, version 2.15.1*

The app doesn’t support the correct resolution for the iPhone 8+ phone screen (a size that has been out for several years) but on top of that it still functions as if Facebook is integrated into my phone telling me to add my account in settings. This of course means that I can’t even sign in. I would love to have this app to aide in productivity, but the company needs to take more pride in the software they release...or continue support for their apps in this ever-changing technological world.

### 2/5 — Cool in theory

*2016-06-30, version 2.3.3*

I found some great coaches using Take Lessons, but their developers are laughably bad. Their schedule system will just have random lessons come up as unpaid. I have to regularly have phone calls with their operators to resolve payment issues (like mystery debts I owe to them and the fact that you can only pay off one overdue lesson online). Then they have these "pay periods" which makes it so you can have "overdue lessons" that are in the future. Like seriously read a data structures book you bozos. If not for my teacher not wanting to break his contract with take lessons I would have switched to private scheduling and payment months ago. Congratulations TakeLessons you trapped another resentful user into using your pathetic system

### 1/5 — It's a trap! But serious tho...

*2016-06-14, version 2.3.3*

Don't utilize this service. They take 40% of your total earnings for every NEW student you get and it doesn't phase out to 10% until your 14th lesson

And this happens for EVERY student you get. Meaning it takes over 3 months to earn only 90 percent of your total

And good look with that btw. In most cases you have to pull teeth to even get a customer who can commit. This is due to the counter-intuitive software system they have built for people who want to schedule a lesson.

Most folks will ask if they can contact you via email or telephone. But god forbid that happens. Take lessons monitors your conversation and if you and your client try to communicate outside the provided service your communication gets flagged and they will permanently delete your account.

Overall take lessons is not worth the hassle. Especially when other online services provide their service for free.

### 1/5 — It's an ok app

*2016-04-22, version 2.3.1*

This app was updated a few times after its inception, elevating it to glitchy, underperforming, and not well thought out. From there it's like the TakeLessons people stopped caring about the app completely(despite the fact that they still mention it as a perk of teaching with TakeLessons). Some of the problems that have yet to be addressed are: Emails to/from students do not arrive for several days. Every time one leaves the app (temporarily switching to another etc.) it take about 5 seconds for "verifying login information". The alert that informs teachers of new students requires that you send a welcome email from the app, but often that email, despite being edited before sending, is sent as a form letter to the student. This effectively shuts down communication because the form letter states that the teacher will contact the student again soon, but if it has been edited with information for the student to provide, then both parties are waiting for the other to reply.
Needless to say, it has not been the best experience.

### 4/5 — Some things are a bit janky

*2016-04-04, version 2.3.0*

Sunday lessons usually don't show up in week view, and have to be chased after to check the time. Otherwise, a good app

### 4/5 — Love except for....

*2015-10-27, version 2.1.0*

The app works great so far on my iPad Mini. MUCH better than on iPhone. True improvement there. My only peeve point here is that the app doesn't rotate. No amount of flipping the iPad around will get that solved. Would be a really nice feature if they will add that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This app is useless…

*2024-07-29*

I haven’t even been able to get into the application… my account is connected through google… the sign in page doesn’t even have the option to sign in through google, and entering my information manually doesn’t work… again, couldn’t even get inside the app before the problems started… seems like lots of others have complaints about this app too…

### 1/5 — Truly one of the worst apps in existence

*2024-07-24*

It’s frankly offensive how user-hostile this app is—but also very much in keeping with how TakeLessons treats its instructors.

### 1/5 — Worst app

*2024-01-26*

Worst app ever. Can’t even log on. This is a new low even for Microsoft.

### 1/5 — Genuinely unusable

*2024-01-02*

Doesn’t open or connect or have any functionality at all.

### 1/5 — Use anything but this

*2023-07-03*

Genuinely might be the worst app I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. Looks and works significantly worse than the desktop website (a very low bar to clear), never keeps me logged in, never sends me notifications even for important things like new students. Text fields and menus are almost impressively broken. Often feels like it was designed and coded by Satan incarnate.

This isn’t even getting into the way TakeLessons treats their instructors. Apparently having a customer service rep who can respond in the same week and knows literally anything is too much to ask, but don’t worry—they’ve spent their money on lots of other super useful features: blocking any messages which contain contact information, automatically setting your profile to invisible any time you decline a student, emailing you every month with an update email that amounts to ‘heyyy, we still haven’t fixed anything but we added more features to make your experience as an instructor even worse haha lol xoxo’.

And the fact that instructors have been making all these same complaints for almost a decade and TakeLessons appears to have done literally nothing to remedy them?? Really not a good look. Thumbtack is leagues better and well worth the cost compared to the truly infuriating experience of trying to deal with the dipsticks at TakeLessons.

### 1/5 — App will no longer login

*2023-04-24*

For some reason, the App logged me out and now when I try to log back in, it just spins and spins and spins. There is nothing wrong with my phone because everything else works. I even deleted the app and reinstalled it but it still has the same issue. Takelessons should have a user friendly app that works well, especially because not everyone always has their computer on hand to respond to student inquiries.

### 1/5 — Terrible update

*2023-04-23*

This new upgraded app doesn’t work probably and in past few days hasn’t been even logging in at all ! Terrible

### 1/5 — Older app was so much better

*2023-01-10, version 2.19.0*

I’m an instructor at Take Lessons and I’ve been with them for almost a decade. This new “upgraded” version is horrible and is not like the previous version of the app at all. I have an older phone with their previous app installed and have decided to use that for now.

For starters, the new app often fails to update the changes you make giving error messages forcing you to log in. And very often it keeps asking you to log in again when the app is already open on your device. Additionally, the new app isn’t mobile friendly - you can’t swipe anywhere to do things on the new app which makes it especially difficult to schedule lessons. The previous mobile app lets you do this, always updated without errors on their end and never kept asking you to log in.

Basically, the new app is a glorified version of the web site so I will continue using the old app on my old phone until they fix it this huge problem.

### 1/5 — impossible to use

*2022-11-27, version 2.19.0*

they really need to fix this - the app was problematic before and after the update. i’m not sure how you’re supposed to answer student questions within 3 hours if the app is unusable. fix the programming please!

### 1/5 — DON’T UPDATE

*2022-11-10, version 2.19.0*

The app worked fine until I updated and now it just redirects to the website. Awful update.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Quality of students from TakeLessons

*2020-11-27, version 2.17.0*

I have been with take lessons since 2016 and I would have to say this site offers you the best quality of students. Just wanted to congratulate TakeLessons for an excellent job at keeping such a high standard.

### 5/5 — Great

*2020-06-18, version 2.17.0*

I’ve been a teacher with them for years and the company is amazing. They take a reasonable amount from lessons in return for getting you students. 70% of my students continued for many years, only a few had a few lessons and quit. They are great.

The app is easier than the online version in some ways and always works for me.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2017-09-08, version 2.12.0*

It's got the basic features of the actual website but not all of them. I wish we could join class using this app on our smartphones as a teacher. I saw on the other app that is designed for students, they can join the class using their app. Broadly speaking, great job from Takelessons! :)

### 5/5 — Great interface!

*2016-05-04, version 2.3.1*

Easy to use, and super convenient for reaching customers ASAP.

### 5/5 — So far so good!

*2016-02-10, version 2.2.2*

This app helps with organization and sends you alerts before lessons, it's definitely a #1 app! Don't hesitate!

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2016-01-18, version 2.2.1*

I can see all of my students in one place, highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Love it.

*2015-10-18, version 2.1.0*

This is a very easy and convenient way to keep up with my business on TakeLessons.

### 5/5 — Great for scheduling and keeping up-to-date

*2015-08-27, version 2.1.0*

Try it and you'll discover what I mean!

### 5/5 — Awesome Tool

*2015-07-29, version 2.1.0*

I love that you can use the app to do the same stuff available in the laptop and desktop. This is great for organizing and updating. Perfect for instant needs.

### 5/5 — Very Convenient!!

*2015-03-21, version 1.6.0*

Love the fact that this app allows me to be mobile with my vocal studio! :)
