You get a key to unlock a chapter and once you use, that’s it. I feel like the game has potential. That’s why I gave it a 2 star review. ### 3/5 — Needs to have bugs fixed *2024-01-03* This app definitely has been cool but it needs some work. I was playing one of the stories. Got to choose my character in the beginning of the first episode. Then I started the second episode and was a complete different character option and I have no way of fixing it so I’m a bit angry. ### 2/5 — Ok but….. *2024-01-01* It’s really fun, but to do anything, you need to spend money on keys. If you don’t buy keys, the game is just boring. So yea a money taker. ### 3/5 — Diamonds. *2023-05-02* Let me just start by saying this app is really good. The thing bothering me though is the fact that the way you can refill your diamonds is if you pay for them. I was reading an interesting story and the system wont let me read a specific chapter, just skips it completely. Makes keeping up with the characters and plot a challenge at best! I had 4 keys, I used 3. The timer said I had to wait for a certain amount of hours. I came back to the app 2DAYS later and I still had one key. Please fix this. Also on the website it’s hard to even write one chapter of a tales story bc the website keeps crashing and acting slow. **Developer response:** We appreciate you letting us know. Regarding the website, we've recently rolled out an update, so the creation process should be smoother, faster, and more stable now and in the coming weeks! ### 3/5 — not suited for people who like to binge read *2022-06-27, version 2.96.0* I love the concept of this app & it had me hooked until I went to bed at around 1am and it showed that I would get a key in 2 hours then I wake up this morning at around 10am and its showing I now wont get the key for 17 hours lol. 24 hours for one key is a little ridiculous & I understand that there are free books but their aren’t that many and the majority of them aren’t completed. I really enjoyed the app but only being able to make it the first chapter of a story then only being able to read one chapter per story per day (unless you purchase more keys) isn’t something I’d like to do. like I said the concept was cool and alot of the stories and writing are amazing but that key system is a little outrageous lol **Developer response:** We appreciate the feedback! However, I got to the last episode of Truchange, and it reset me to the beginning. This is really upsetting because tickets take 2 hours so it will take me a while to get my progress back. Otherwise great app. ### 4/5 — DIAMONDS AND KEYS NEED FIXING *2022-01-25, version 2.81.1* Of all the similar apps I’ve played, this has the most elegant design , and the stories are well -written (no typos or anything) and interesting. However, if you don’t want to spend real money you’ll never finish a single book, because (unlike the other apps) your keys are not restored after a time .Also, there are no rewards after finishing a chapter and no way to win keys or diamonds except paying! Pity… **Developer response:** Sorry to hear that you are experiencing issue with keys not recharging. Keys should be recharging every three hours. There is also this issue where the game randomly quits on me or when the background is switching in a story, the whole thing just turns pink, so if y’all could fix that I’d appreciate it and give this app the 5 stars it deserves!!🥰 ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not Voiceover Compatible!. *2024-09-04* I was really excited to play this game app it is not able to read aloud using my needed voiceover feature as I am a little bit blind. I give it a one star until it can develop proper enunciation for voice over. ### 1/5 — Password data breach *2024-03-25* Within half an hour of downloading this app and using a email I never use to make an ‘account’ the iOS on my phone sent me an alert that that email had appeared in a password data breach. ### 1/5 — A bug *2024-03-17* It says my logic token has expired and even when I deleted a re-downloaded it, nothing happened ### 1/5 — Erotica app *2023-05-30* Update 2023: This app is taken over by erotica. I get emails with NSFW images advertising erotica. This app used to be unique and filled with cute romance stories, thrilling suspense stories, and some actually good sci fi stories. Too bad it’s all erotica content now. Sadly, uninstalled. 2020: I love mixing in my heavier paperback novel reading with something from on here. The episodes are a good length while brushing my teeth or waiting for water to boil for tea. Some stories are better than others I’ve found. The recommended or featured ones are my favorite. **Developer response:** Love that you're loving it! ### 1/5 — Crashes *2022-10-15, version 3.06.0* Total waste of time and money. They have good stories available, but major server issues. Their books crash halfway through and that’s extremely frustrating. They also don’t respond on their social media handles if you contact them about it. I was reading Fox’s Wedding and The Ice Breathes…both did the exact same thing. Crashed and stopped loading as soon as I got about halfway through the book. I’ll be canceling my recurring purchases. **Developer response:** Hi there, so sorry you were having this problem. Most apps give you two every 2-4 hours. What kind of money making strategy is that? Bad choice,developers. ### 1/5 — Needs Updating *2022-03-09, version 2.84.1* The app itself can be interesting, but the stories rarely get updated. For instance, I have been waiting for the “Save the Queen” story about Anne Boleyn to update with new chapters/be finished for over two years and nothing. It’s like that with the majority of the stories on this app. This isn’t even the first time this app has been released. It was released before, never updated and then re-released as a separate app with the same name. I have both versions on my phone. I don’t even fully understand why they re-release the app separately when there is no difference between it and the previous one. Why not just update the stories on the previous one? This is such a cash grab. Why would anyone pay for stories that are not completed and the developers have no intention of completing? **Developer response:** Hi Sarah, we were a ragtag group of 3 folks who built a prototype of the app when you discovered us. As we gear up for launch on Android, we were forced to change apps, which is why you're stuck with 2 versions of the app on your phone (you can delete the old one). Recently we were able to raise funding to build out the content team and Save the Queen is one of our top priorities. We love this story, it really showcases everything that Tales is about and the original author is returning to work on this later this year. You should see Tales Originals moving forward with tens of writers and we're also onboarding hundreds of published authors and their titles within the next couple months. They exploit their workers to try and get them to work hours upon hours for mere pennies. They also said homophobic statements and allowed racism and transphobia on the app. Stay away. ### 1/5 — No saves or customer support *2021-12-07, version 2.78.3* These stories would be great if your progress ever saved properly. Pretty upset that I have spent so much on diamond choices that no longer show up in stories that I had previously read (my progress doesn’t show up for most either) the stories that DO show my progress won’t open. I paid $80 for a years subscription and my account has saved 0 progress and can’t open stories I had previously started and customer support is ignoring me, soooo it’s a scam. It’s sad too, because the writers are talented. You are better off with Choice of Games or Delight Games since those apps actually work and the customer support doesn’t ignore you. **Developer response:** Sorry that you are experiencing issue with unlocked premium choices! The support system is flawed; it’s only a one-way communication system that seems outdated. Gems cannot be earned in any way besides spending real life currency, so you’re stuck with what you have. The stories are amazing, great mc’s that have an actual character growth unlike other interactive story apps on here and visually appealing. It also has all types of genres. For once the storylines on here makes me want to read more. The only thing I would say the downside to it is the updates. There are wonderful stories on here, that still need to be continued. It has taken ages for the authors to update them. I’m talking about months and months. For what’s it worth though, the app is still amazing. Just one note to the makers of the app. I wish that there was more then one key a day. In the book I’m reading right now some chapters are real short. I wait 24 hours for a few paragraph chapter. That’s my only thing I dislike. But other then that it’s a great app. I was looking for an app after Lovestruck went away I tried a few others but wasn’t liking them. Then I found what I was looking for in this app. ### 5/5 — My favorite app! *2022-09-14, version 3.04.0* Most of the stories are top quality. So many genres catering to different tastes, it’s amazing; truly something for everyone! I found that in many stories the choices really matter; it’s thrilling. They even have a number of stories with male MCs, and it’s growing. You absolutely can enjoy the stories even without having to spend gems (I use mine on my favorite stories or to tip the author). The key situation at the moment is horrendous, though. 😂 I’m a binge reader, so I definitely buy keys, but it would be sweet to have a way to earn them with watching ads. Log in every day and collect keys and then binge! Meanwhile, there are a LOT of fantastic stories that don’t need ANY keys! Search for “free” with the search option. ### 5/5 — Great App *2022-08-22, version 3.02.0* Great app! Love interactive stories so I’m surprised I never found out sooner. Daily login gems or ads for gems would be great. Or calendar rewards. Ways to reward daily players. Hope you guys update regular as I just started a story with only three chapters out! **Developer response:** We hear ya! As for story updates -- we have a lot of free stories that you can dive into while waiting for your favorite author to post new chapters (most authors update regularly). Some stories, however, are not guaranteed to become a full-fledged series as they are one-time contest entries. The good news: a lot of new short stories come in every month (our writing contest is a monthly thing), so be sure to check those out. We thank you for the feedback! We're glad you're enjoying the app! ### 5/5 — Good game, I have a few suggestions though *2022-06-11, version 2.96.0* Tales is a really great app. I like it because of the interactive stories and how you can make your own and publish it quickly. I have a few suggestions though, which, if implemented, would make me play and create on Tales a lot more. 1. I wish there was some sort of way to download episodes in series to complete offline. This way, you can access some episodes offline if you prepare. 2. I would love if you could prompt the user to enter in text in your story and save it for later. For example, you could ask the reader what they want their character’s name to be for more customization. 3. A way to see all your stories, how many people have liked them, how many people have played them, etc. inside the app without having to scour the whole platform because your stories aren’t very popular would be great. **Developer response:** These are all great suggestions, thank you! There are tons of stories on here that stretch across so many different genres. You want super steamy romance? They got it. You want survival adventures? They’re here. Zombie apocalypse? Magical wizarding schools? Mafia? Mystery solving? Erotica? Werewolves? Vampire princes? Haunted houses? I’m on other interactive apps and the variety just isn’t there. Tales has that and at a really high quality bar. Visuals are amazing. Why aren’t more people talking about that?! I’m seeing more and more stories reaching the finish line and lots more new stuff has been added. I also like that not all good / steamy / adventurous choices require payment (which is the case on other apps).
