Texts, but I can't reply... *2026-08-22, version 7.1.6* With my VPN on, the App rings with calls, but won't let me answer. Then I have to shut off my VPN, restart the app, then call the person back. Just now, with my VPN OFF, I got a text to confirm a doctor's appointment. If I don't confirm, I lose the appointment... Tried restarting the app and confirming the text 4 times, and it just won't let me FOR NO REASON (and that's with me paying the subscription). Also, all that no VPN nonsense is a scam to make us pay for a MORE EXPENSIVE SUBSCRIPTION, that supposedly works with VPNs... Other than that, I wish the party or person or company I deal with could also call me but Textatone only lets me call and not others call me. If they call, I’m not sure how Textatone deals with it. They deleted OVER 10 YEARS HISTORY of text messages and call history with NO warning and NO remorse. They were sending notices to loose your number AFTER ONLY 30 DAYS of no use that all went to my spam folder. NOTHING IN THE NOTICES EVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT ALSO LOOSING ALL YOUR PHONE CALL LOGS AND TEXTS. Since then I have messaged them multiple times to inquire and they sent 1 brief, incomplete cold response to the first message and have BLATANTLY IGNORED every other message for OVER 2 MONTHS. How rude and nasty and mean????? Genuinely terrible awful people running this business because this kind of disrespectful mistreatment and cold hearted behavior with no remorse seems normalized and like it’s no big deal over there. How many people have they done this to and then just not care???? Shame on you Talkatone leadership and team. Shame on you. Prior Review As of February 2026 they’re now deliberately causing people to be locked out of emails to strong arm buying premium and gave ZERO ADVANCE NOTICE. They just woke up one day and up and decided very basic things like texts from short numbers should cost extra. ??? And they’re claiming it’s an “unknown number” WHICH IS A LIE, because it’s simply a short number NOT unknown. So a ton of people suddenly can’t receive texts like verification codes to get in their email or to know your order is one the way from a store. They’re nickel and diming people and don’t care if they get you locked out your email with ZERO WARNING OR NOTICE. That is so messed up. I mean you have to watch a gazillion ads and they’re wanting to charge a very super basic function like a text message as a premium thing by forcing your hand and getting you locked out your email. Not cool. It is perfect for using when you don’t want to give out your regular service phone number. It keeps you private. Also receives texts flawlessly with no hassles. I recommended it to a couple of ppl who were on hard times and couldn’t afford to keep their regular service active. So instead of dropping off the grid, they used TalkATone. As long as your receiving a wifi signal, you can text make and receive calls and texts. There are ads but not annoyingly enough to make it a deal breaker. You can pay for premium and get more of a regular phone. But if your sown and out or need privacy this is the best phone app to use! I am a human not a bot nor have I been asked to put any type of review paid or unpaid. I’ve been using it for the past six years. I would say the first five years have been great until they started offering their own cellular services. I think they want people to purchase and that’s why I’ve been having so many issues for the past year or so. When I first started using the app the only thing I really experienced was dropped calls. I barely use the app now so when I do use it, which is not often on making outbound calls, it could be every other day every two days or so maybe 30 minutes or less on the phone calls but every month around the same time, they disable my outbound calling and they’ll send me a text saying that I’ve exceeded the outbound calling and when I reach out to them to find out why what I did, it takes them 5 days to respond or more right now its going on a week. My outbound calling is still disabled. When they do finally respond they send a generic response saying that you’ve exceeded the outbound calling limits or misuse or abuse, and I rarely use app. I’ve used this app for hours in the first few years so I don’t know what’s different now versus back then. My services get disabled every month around the same time and then when I reach out to them it takes Them forever to respond, and they have to manually refresh my app so I can use it.
