No more piles of scripts sitting on my desk and I can listen anytime, anywhere. It really takes the strain out of reading through a big pile of scripts plus I got a lot of stuff done at the same time! I was surprised how fast I adjusted to the mechanical voices and I think that as more enhanced voices come out, the listening experience will become better and better. Very neat note-making feature. **Developer response:** Thanks for your review. And the 5 stars!! Actually there are some great enhanced voices that sound less mechanical already available. You can download them for free. Just follow the instructions in the Help section on the More page. There is even a handy table that gives our personal ratings for all the voices - it's on our website at http://www.talkingscripts.com. Having this app on my phone is a brilliant way to hear them read aloud during those times I can’t sit and give my full attention. Well done, folks. If there are any other features to make learning your lines easier please let us know. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-04-06* The voices on this app are AWFUL, every single one of them. They are all super computerized and none of them sound natural. Under settings, it says by going Premium you get better, more natural sounding voices...you don't. It's the exact same voices. And they are all bad. Like....very bad. **Developer response:** I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like Talking Scripts wasn’t delivering what you were hoping for, and that is frustrating. We recently launched our new Voices+ voices, which are a significant upgrade from our original voices Apple voices, but we know that voice quality is incredibly subjective and not everyone will have the same reaction to them. That said, the Premium tiers should absolutely sound different from the standard voices. If you’re hearing exactly the same voices after upgrading, there may be an issue with your account or the voice settings. We’re a small team and we’re working hard to improve the voices with every release. It won't even open at all and I'm on the latest iOS on the iPhone 15 pro 🤬🤬🤬 Mind you I'm a paid subscriber... how do I go about getting my refund? **Developer response:** We are so sorry about this issue. It affected a small number of users and we are working day and night to sort out. We have now fixed the issue. Please except our apologies for the bump in the road. The Talking Scripts Team ### 2/5 — Hard Pass… *2021-08-27* I totally respect Idris Elba but this app is pretty awful. I totally get those who have to read a pile scripts each week but hey that’s why we get paid the big bucks to do it. You’re just no going to feel the writers emotion or any beats of the script with this app. I tested an academy award winning script just for giggles and it just wasn’t the same, if I would have relied on the app it would have also been a hard pass. I just don’t think we’re there yet with this technology to really get the feel of narrative storytelling. If you have to rely on this then maybe you should reevaluate why you chose this profession in the first place. For those that use it primarily to run lines then maybe I get why it could be somewhat useful. **Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks for your feedback and for taking the time to test it out! We are trying to develop the app for those, who like Idris and myself are dyslexic and slower readers, or those on the move, or those who take in scripts better when listening. It is also being used by many actors who find the app helpful to learn lines and hear the words aloud. As a Director myself, I’ve always found it useful for time-management, allowing me to catch-up on multiple episode I won't direct, or new drafts. In truth, we are not here to replace script reading at all, it’s more for those who have more reading to do than most and find it a struggle. Talking with my technical adviser, she reminds me that we use the Apple voices and the Apple text to speech engine. She wondered whether you tried the enhanced voices (the help section explains how to download them) - I should add that those voices are much better, but are still lacking in emotion. AI still has more work to do in that field, but at the moment we are using Apple and they are amongst the best at text to speech. ### 3/5 — Good Concept, Not So Great Execution *2026-03-03* I love the idea of having my script read to me but the voices aren’t that great in my opinion 😅 Also, sometimes the app struggles with changing voices when you do the recast 🤔 Lately I cannot recast the voice so I am stuck with the default voice even after upgrading to premium ### 3/5 — App is great but no longer opens. *2024-02-07* I really enjoy the app but soon as I subscribed to the premium service. The app will no longer stay open for no more than 10 seconds. **Developer response:** The latest update fixes the crash that affected you. If you could update everything should be working even better than expected. In my career I need to read scripts. And for a person with life-long ADD where my mind roams while I’m reading, this is a perfect idea to keep me on task and focused. Thank you! ### 4/5 — Nearly Perfect *2023-02-15* After downloading a few hours ago, I can already imagine how this app will change my life for the *much* better! I wish this had existed 10+ years ago.. Developer, one quick thing: I’ve signed up for a premium trial, and though I’ve logged in on both my up-to-date iPhone and my up-to-date iPad, “Copy to Talking Scripts” never shows up in PDF share options, even in the extended options (“More”), on my iPad. It showed up immediately on iPhone, but even after restarting, removing and reinstalling, and such combinations of actions, still no go on iPad. Would you pretty please look into this? We will in the future be expanding to iPads, desktop and Android, but at the moment we are concentrating on getting amazing new AI voices which are really exciting. I’ve tried using apps like speechify but it just can’t get the character assignment right. Can’t recommend this enough! ### 5/5 — Great tool for Film/TV work and ADHD *2026-06-01* As someone working in film and TV (also with ADHD), I’ve found this app extremely useful either as a listen-only option or as a read-along way to help me focus. While I’ve had a few frustrations with past versions of the app draining my battery or overheating my phone, the newest updates seem to have remedied these issues. The team is also very helpful and communicative with issues. Recommend. I read a high volume of scripts for work, and the app has not only allowed me to focus more on material but also increase my productivity quite a bit. This app saves so much time, as I can now listen to scripts while driving/commuting to work, exercising or going for a hike. The option to change the pitch, tone and speed of the audio is fantastic, and really adds to the listening experience.
