## What is TalkMate?

Pick a mate and start talking. TalkMate gives you 100+ AI mates: everyday people like baristas, chefs, grandmas, taxi drivers, nurses and students, each with their own life, voice and personality. Text them, or call for a real-time voice chat whenever you feel like it. Just easy, natural conversation.

WHO'S ON THE LINE?
A barista in Riyadh who knows everyone's order. A taxi driver in Istanbul with opinions about the traffic. A nonna in Naples who wants to know if you've eaten. A ramen chef in Fukuoka, a student in Berlin, a nurse, a mechanic and many more. Each mate has a background and stays in character, so every chat feels like talking to someone with a real point of view.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Real-time voice calls: talk out loud and hear natural, in-character replies
• Live captions: see what you and your mate say, as you say it
• Calls keep going with the screen locked
• Text chat: send a quick message whenever typing suits you better
• Create your own mates: pick a name, job, age, gender and a few words about them, choose the language they speak from 99 languages, and get an AI-generated photo
• Ratings and reviews: see what others think of a mate and share your own take (reviews are moderated)
• 11 languages: the app and its built-in mates speak English, Spanish, Turkish, German, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Arabic and Korean
• Made for iPhone, with layouts for the folding screen of iPhone Duo

FREE AND PRO
TalkMate is free to use, with a daily allowance of messages and voice time. TalkMate Pro removes the message limit and gives you up to 60 minutes of voice calls a day. PRIVATE AND SIMPLE
No account, no sign-up. Your chats, mates and settings are stored on your device. Your messages and voice are sent only to create replies and aren't stored on our servers.

TalkMate is for fun, casual conversation. Mates are AI and can make mistakes.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-10-12

TalkMate 2.0 is a complete rebuild:
• Rebuilt natively for iPhone: faster and smoother all round
• Now in Japanese, Arabic and Korean, with new mates who speak them
• 100+ mates to call and chat with
• Custom mates can speak any of 99 languages
• Live captions in voice calls, and calls keep going with the screen locked
• iPhone Duo support
• Ratings and reviews for mates

### 1.0.11 — 2026-09-27

What's new:
• New voice engine: more natural conversations and more reliable calls
• Redesigned call screen: see who's talking, live captions, and a clear End call button
• "Switch to chat" moves you from a call to text chat, with no surprise hang-ups
• A message that fails to send now shows "Not sent" with a Retry button
• Chats open on your latest message, with Today and Yesterday separators
• Clear Chat now asks before deleting your history

### 1.0.10 — 2026-09-04

What's new:
• Faster start: the voice engine now loads only when you place a call
• Smoother call screen: no flicker while your mate is speaking, and the one-minute warning no longer shifts the layout
• Fixed: backing out of the purchase sheet closed the paywall as if you had subscribed
• Restore Purchases now tells you when there is nothing to restore
• Fixed: a connection blip during setup produced a "we got cut off" greeting
• Updated voice engine

### 1.0.9 — 2026-08-09

What's new:
• Voice calls are far more reliable. If the connection drops, TalkMate now tells you and reconnects — instead of looking like it's still listening
• Your remaining voice time is always visible, and time is never counted while a call isn't connected
• Fixed: subscribers were sometimes asked to upgrade to a plan they already had
• Swipe left on a chat to delete it
• Fixed a layout issue that pushed the call controls off screen when the transcript was open
• Custom personas you create now always appear in your list
• Fixed: on iPhone, call audio switched from the speaker to the earpiece a few seconds in, forcing you to hold the phone to your ear

### 1.0.7 — 2026-07-17

What's new:
• More reliable text and voice conversations
• Faster, safer message handling for long chats
• Improved voice call startup and usage tracking
• More dependable subscription and restore behavior
• Stronger privacy controls when clearing app data
• Stability, security and language-selection improvements
