It would be nice to have an undo button in the roleplays for this situation so I can roll back one response rather than start over if a hallucination derails the scenario. Also, it would be nice if there were per-language settings so one doesn’t have to manually change their skill level every time they hop between languages. ### 3/5 — $89.99 not worth it *2026-08-13, version 2.8.15* I thought for this price that I would have full access to all their courses. False. Even the chat has limited time. I cancelled the subscription and valid until next year for limited chat. That’s misleading and can’t even get my money back. Can’t find a real person. I have selected “Travel and Tourism” as the reason for learning but the app doesn’t seem to take that into account - it gives me phrases like “He plays football”, which are of limited use for a holiday. 2. It gave me the phrase “My name is Anna” to learn. I am a man, so this isn’t useful for me - you should be able to select your gender in the personalisation section. 3. Some of the words it selects are a bit random. Best regards, Talkpal team. ### 4/5 — Tolles Tool zum Sprechenüben *2026-07-18* Ich bin begeistert davon, dass ich auf diese Weise das Sprechen auf Französisch und Spanisch üben kann und sogar Korrekturen zu meinen Fehlern erhalte. Das Lernen macht wirklich großen Spaß. Ein paar Fehler tauchen allerdings manchmal bei der Fehlerkorrektur auf. Zum Beispiel verbessert die KI meinen französischen Satz einfach mit der deutschen Übersetzung, statt eine Alternative auf Französisch zu bieten. Und ich diktiere meinen Text im Chat immer mündlich, werde dann aber korrigiert, weil ich etwa keine Anführungszeichen oder das falsche Genus im Wort „amis“ (Freunde), statt „amies“ (Freundinnen) benutzt hätte, obwohl man diesen Unterschied im Französischen eigentlich nicht hören kann. Es wurde einfach nur automatisch falsch transkribiert. Letzteres sind aus meiner Sicht allerdings eher Kleinigkeiten. Aber ich hoffe, dass das mit den Korrekturen auf Deutsch noch geändert wird. There is no effective practice tests for already learned words. Individually all levels need to be practiced from scratch. However, there should be a combined flashcards system which will repeat the cards from completed levels for 1,3,7,15, 30 and 90 days chronologically. Mistaking a word should repeat that word three days in a row ### 3/5 — Education *2026-07-08, version 2.8.2* I have only used it for two days but as a teacher, I was really hoping the app had a specific section for education. There is a section for business, tech, hospitality etc. but not one for education. Some works are repeated by the speaker multiple times (despite not being written more than once in the sentence) - Most likely a glitch. Also, I'm at the absolute beginner level and there is no option to learn the alphabet! I cannot yet read in the language and am being asked to select the best response (I can't read the responses). Worth mentioning that Farsi has formal and informal speech. Users should be allowed to select the tone/formality of their speaker. I'll have to come back to this app once it's fine-tuned, because it's otherwise excellent. I think a feature that allows you to save words as they come up in practice (regardless of the format) with ability to add notes and revisit them (like a personal dictionary) would be super cool and useful too. Best regards, Talkpal team. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Takes money without warning *2026-09-01* The Talkpal subscription was not listed in the iPhone list of subscriptions so tracking is not easy. They do not even send a warning email to say that they will be taking the subscription cost to allow you to cancel. They take the money and then when you complain they say tough luck you should have noticed no refund, cancel now and we won’t charge you next year. If you cancel you immediately lose access to the service you do not even you have access until the end of the time you paid for. If you really believe in your product you do not do this. I would strongly suggest that you do not engage with this company regardless of what you think of the product. There are other companies that will treat you far better. ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-08-31* This app should be off app store and google play. I found it easy to see where I’m at, to track progress and while doing the modules, to repeat what I’m trying. The new UPDATES however have made it so hard to see where I’m at, what I’ve completed and what’s next. I hate every module update. Nicht für Anfänger geeignet *2026-08-21* Talkpal als App macht einen schönen Eindruck. Kleinere Fehler kommen allerdings immer wieder vor, was bei einer Lernapp äußerst negativ auffällt. Das Programm ist allerdings nicht für Anfänger geeignet. Zumindest einige Grundkenntnisse werden vorausgesetzt. Der Schwerpunkt der App liegt im Gegensatz zu den anderen Sprachlernapps weniger auf dem Wortschatz, sondern er liegt auf dem Reden. Der Anwender soll so die Scheu vor der Sprache und der Aussprache verlieren das gelingt dieser App nun wirklich ausgezeichnet. Was mich allerdings stört, sind die textintensiven Teile der App. Diese sind häufig zu schwer für Anfänger. Hier wäre es schön, wenn speziell eine eigene Rubrik „Unterhaltungen auf einfachen Niveau“ eingeführt werden würde. Zusätzlich könnte ich mir noch vorstellen, dass es eine Rubrik mit kleinen Geschichten gibt. Ich denke da an Erzählungen wie sie in manchen speziellen Büchern „Lernen mit Kurzgeschichten“, „Lernen mit Kurzkrimis“ etc. bereits gibt. Man könnte zum Beispiel eine nette Kurzgeschichte erzählen lassen - mit den sprechenden Übersetzung dazu - und die App stellt dann einfach Fragen zu dieser Kurzgeschichte oder man unterhält sich anschließend über die Geschichte, so dass die eigene Fantasy nicht unbedingt herausgefordert wird und das Thema bekannt ist. Man würde die vorkommen Wörter wiederholen und wird nicht durch die Suche nach Inhalten abgelenkt. Das Abo wird übrigens immer wieder vergünstigt angeboten. Nicht als In-App-Kauf sondern direkt. Dann ist es den Preis auf jeden Fall wert. Ergänzung August 2026. Es wurden weitere themenspezifische Kurse hinzugefügt. Gerade für Einsteiger eine klare Verbesserung. Ferner habe ich mich direkt mit den Entwicklern in Verbindung gesetzt und Verbesserungsvorschläge unterbreitet. Die Antwort war sehr entgegenkommend. Interessantere Inhalte. *2026-08-20* Nur das Belohnungs - und Erinnerungssystem ist zu schwach. Hier schneidet Duolingo besser ab. Wenn ich keine Nachteile davon habe, wenn ich meinen Streak unterbreche, werde ich nachlässiger. Es ist auch schade, dass es keinen Vergleich mit anderen Teilnehmern gibt, was den zeitlichen Einsatz fürs Lernen anbelangt. So ein bisschen Wettbewerb schadet nichts.
