## What is Tally Up?

Tally Up is the personal finance app that gives you the full financial picture — where you stand today, and where you're headed in 30 years. Track accounts, reconcile transactions, build budgets, and run long-term forecasts, all privately on your devices.
Perfect for anyone saving for retirement, pursuing FIRE, building wealth, or planning a major life purchase.

— PRIVATE & SECURE BY DESIGN —
Your financial data stays on your devices. No third-party clouds, no data mining, no subscriptions to external services. Syncs seamlessly across iPhone, iPad, and Mac using your private iCloud account.

— COMPLETE WEALTH TRACKER —
Get a complete picture of your finances in seconds. Track savings accounts, investment portfolios, property, retirement accounts, and more. Add as much or as little detail as you want.

— BUDGETS —
Create budgets manually or generate them from your transaction history. The Budget Report tracks planned-versus-actual spending by category, with drill-downs to individual transactions and period navigation.

— TRANSACTIONS & IMPORTS —
Track account activity in detail. Import transactions from CSV and QIF files, including securities and multi-currency activity, to build your portfolio faster.

— BANK CONNECTIONS —
Connect Tally Up directly to your financial accounts. Link Lunch Flow to bring in bank transactions automatically using your own API key, or connect Interactive Brokers via Flex Query to pull in brokerage activity statements. Your credentials stay in your device Keychain and are never shared with anyone.

— LIVE MARKET DATA —
Security prices and FX rates update automatically in the background, keeping investment valuations current without any manual input.

— REPORTS & FORECASTING —
Tally Up's reporting engine covers your full financial timeline:
* NAV Report — total net worth over time with asset breakdown
* Portfolio Report — current holdings, market values, and IRR per position
* Cash Flow Forecast — project income and expenses over 30 years
* Operational Cash Flow — short-term view of the year ahead
* Budget Report — planned vs. actual spending with full drill-down

— "WHAT IF?" SCENARIOS —

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7 — 2026-07-10

Tally Up combines daily money management with long-term financial planning in one private app.

Version 1.7 brings a deeper reporting workspace, clearer forecasts, and more guided setup throughout the app.

New and improved:

- Compare the current period with the previous period in Income & Expenses, Transaction by Category, and Budget Variance charts.
- Explore category spending with richer Transaction by Category, Category Interval, and Asset/Category Matrix reports, including chart selection, contribution summaries, and transaction drill-down.
- Set budget growth assumptions so budget lines can feed long-term forecasts with their own inflation-adjusted or fixed growth rate.
- Use clearer What-If controls for simulations, with smoother slider behaviour and a more focused layout.
- Open contextual help from more editors and settings screens, including assets, budgets, reports, securities, category rules, bank connections, FX rates, and imports.
- Reconcile an asset's transactions against CSV or QIF statement files without importing them, including date-offset matching and reviewable suggested matches.
- Look up merchants directly from uncategorised transaction rows and see clearer category rule match information.
- Add more favourite reports to the Dashboard.

This update also makes bank connections and transaction imports more reliable, with improved investment reporting across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

### 1.6 — 2026-06-23

Version 1.6 brings category styling, a new transaction review workflow, and improvements to importing and editing.

Categories

- Categories now support custom colours and symbols, displayed as styled pills throughout the app — in transaction lists, the split editor, and search results.
- Favourite categories appear directly in transaction rows for fast selection without opening the editor.

Transactions

- A new plan-wide uncategorised transaction queue lets you review and categorise recent cash transactions from all accounts in one place. Open it from the banner on the Assets screen.
- New bank-imported transactions are surfaced in a dedicated banner card alongside the uncategorised count.
- Transaction rows are more compact on iPhone and iPad, with New/Uncategorised lists colour-coded by account and sorted by date.

Importing & Editing

- Paste CSV data directly from the clipboard — copy from your bank website and import without saving a file first.
- Investment transactions can now be edited from the transaction detail view, with security symbol autocomplete and type-aware field locking.

Merchant Lookup

- A Look Up button in the categorisation editor lets you search for a merchant and extract a canonical description.
- Amazon order history is available from the merchant lookup, with your last-used store region remembered between sessions.

Portfolio & NAV

- The NAV dashboard has been redesigned with an interactive donut chart using per-asset-type colours.
- The portfolio holdings donut now shows total portfolio value in the centre; tap any segment to see share count and position details.

Operational Cash

- The Operational Cash report uses a two-column layout on macOS and iPad landscape, showing the rolling chart and cash flow diagram side by side.

Budgets

- Budget reports now show spending and income status, projected totals, and Pace, Cumulative, Variance, and Categories charts.
- Category rows highlight on-track, trending-over, and over-budget spending, with access to the underlying transactions.
- Adjust a category's planned amount directly from the report using manual entry, projected activity, or a historical average.
- Budget editing is more compact on iPad and macOS, with inline frequency and amount controls.

Fixes

- Category rules now match correctly when a transaction description consists entirely of common words.
- The "Yesterday" interval in What Changed now shows the last trading day.

### 1.5 — 2026-06-06

Version 1.5 brings several new features and fixes:

Funding Rules

- A new Funding tab in the Budgets section lets you control which accounts are used to pay for expenses and tax in the long-term forecast. By default, Tally Up chooses automatically. With a custom rule, you can direct expenses to a specific current or savings account, and set a separate rule per person for tax liabilities.

Operational Cash

- A new Operational Cash report on the Dashboard gives you a rolling 12-month view of money flowing through your current and savings accounts. It shows income deposits, expense payments, tax, and any transfers needed to keep accounts above their minimum balances. Switch between monthly and quarterly views to see the level of detail that suits you.

Assets

- Scheduled asset depreciation — vehicle assets can now be set up with a scheduled depreciation rule, so their value declines automatically over time without manual updates.

Categories & Transactions

- Favourite categories shown inline in the category split editor — when splitting a transaction, your favourite categories now appear inline in the editor, reducing the number of taps to reach the most-used options.

Reports & Dashboard

- Up to 15 favourite reports on the dashboard — the limit on pinned favourite reports has been raised from the previous cap to 15.
- Report amounts now rounded — selected amounts in reports are displayed as properly rounded currency values rather than raw floating-point figures.
- Investment Summary now shows a new widget detailing the breakdown across main asset groups.
- In the NAV "What Changed?" section, you can now drill down into the security price changes for a better understanding of what is driving the change between today and the past.

### 1.4 — 2026-05-21

Version 1.4 brings three major new features:

Budgets — create budgets manually or generate them from your transaction history. The Budget Report shows planned-versus-actual spending by category, with drill-downs to individual transactions and period navigation.

Automatic market data — security prices and FX rates now refresh automatically in the background. Configure your data provider in Settings → Pricing and your investment valuations stay current without manual price entry.

NAV and Portfolio reports — the Dashboard now includes a Net Asset Value chart showing your total net worth over time with an asset-type breakdown, and a Portfolio report listing your current holdings with market values and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) per position.

Bulk transaction categorisation — select all transactions in a view and assign a category in one action. Ambiguous transactions also show inline category suggestions directly in the list, so you can resolve them without opening the editor.

Multi-currency income and expenses — income and expense records now carry their own currency, enabling accurate multi-currency forecasting across your plan.

Various bug fixes and performance improvements, including significantly faster Budget report loading and elimination of the beachball on the Forecast tab.

Dark mode — improved accent colour contrast throughout the app.

### 1.3 — 2026-03-25

- Financial Planner is now also available on Mac
