Now the app just comes up blank. ### 2/5 — Worked For a lil’ bit, but not now 😳 *2023-11-30, version 1.0* Bought this unit in mid 2020. The device still transmits but the app is deplorable. Can’t force the app to take a reading, can’t change the orientation of the tank, can’t change the capacity on tank. Blew away the app and tried again,…same ’ol problem. I give up! Going to search for a comparable competitor. ### 2/5 — Device Works, App Does Not *2023-04-03, version 1.0* I have two propane tanks with a utility device on each, 320 and 500 gals respectively. Each device has performed for a year with no issues. The app, however, suddenly began acting erratically. Both tanks were showing as the same tank, with all the same info, and the capacity shown for both had reverted to 50 gals. The app would not allow me to edit either tank's capacity to restore the correct number of gallons per tank. I kept correcting the capacity on each in the Edit mode and clicking " Save" but this changed nothing. Closed the app, reopened, each tank still showed 50 gallons capacity. I then deleted both tanks from the app and re-added them with all the correct info, which was a pain. After doing so, the 320 gal tank reverted to 500 gals. I edited it back to 320. I closed the app, reopened it... and both tanks' capacity had reverted to 50 gals, again, and both tanks had duplicate info as well. I deleted the app, then reinstalled it. Same story-- wrong info, wrong gallons, unable to save any editing, even if I only entered one tank. In the latter case all the info was correctly saved except the gallonage again kept reverting to 50 gals. In short, the app has a bug. I'll have to call my supplier and see if they can straighten it out somehow. Meanwhile, not happy with this app. ### 4/5 — Tank Alert *2022-11-20, version 1.0* My experience with the Tank Utility App has been a 4 Star interaction. This Utility saves me from making that 5% frantic call and for that I am very pleased. One suggestion is the ability to get a text alert for the gas percentage that I select. ### 2/5 — App update please!!!! *2020-11-08, version 1.0* I’ve had the monitor for 2 months now and it stopped reading twice! Had to drive to the tank and make it force send a reading very disappointing! The app needs updating so you can have the monitor send a reading through the app whenever you want one! Push notifications and a widget is also lacking with this app! A update would be greatly appreciated by everyone. It lacks more users controls because if you have a power failure you don’t want monitoring once a day but more often to analysis when to call the propane company. Users needs to setup time for updates since it on,y does as per installation of device time. Not smart. Also if you bought this branded Generac Tank Utility you will have serious issues with the other app mobilegen which I thought was same... It is over price and limited options on app ### 4/5 — Peace of mind and great service *2020-03-06, version 1.0* My friends have this for their holiday homes and love them so I bought the monitor 2 months ago and it was easy to set up. But after a week the battery failed. With one quick call they sent a new unit, prepaid label to return the old one and the new one works great. The app didn’t display daily temp and consumption but again, one quick call and problem solved. I agree the app could be better designed but it gives you the info you need on a daily basis and the peace of mind that when you wonder how much fuel is in the tank, it is right there (and accurate too). It would be great if all companies had service like this. ### 3/5 — So far so good! *2019-12-27, version 1.0* Bought the newest version in November, and after a month it’s still working good. I did have to set it up twice due to changing WiFi routers. We have had plenty of rain and the unit still functions normally. App does need improvement though. The ability to receive real time readings is essential. At the least it should have a “check level” button instead of having to wait for the once a day reading. I understand that battery life is what drives the once a day readings. Perhaps making it easier to change batteries, or better yet, a solar panel to keep it powered would be the improvement the unit needs. The idea is great but still needs improving to make it a 5 star unit. It would also be nice to have more useful reporting options rather than trying to click around on a tiny graph and not able to get much data. I want to know how much propane was used per day, week, month, year, etc. ### 2/5 — Basic App that badly needs improvements and modernization *2019-10-28, version 1.0* Have been using this app for few months. It does the very basic job of reporting propane usage. It needs updating. It’s slow. Graphs are basic. Doesn’t fit on current iPhone screen. There are so many things the developer could add to make it better but seems no releases have been done since 2015. Tank Utility , hire and intern or two and have them improve your app. Make the reading more reliable and less jumpy. Make the graphs easier to read. Wouldn’t it be great if you told users prices in their area? Wouldn’t it be great if you sent month reports on usage in comparison to neighbors.. something like what nest does. Your hardware would become more popular if your app was terrible. It’s almost 2020. I hope developer is working on radically improved app. ### 4/5 — Great app, needs battery level indicator *2019-08-30, version 1.0* Great app, I have 4 of these units installed in different locations on propane tanks. Very useful for making sure our propane vendors don’t let us run out. 2 requests: - battery level monitoring over time so we can proactively change batteries vs troubleshoot a wifi signal. - alert emails should have user set location names in them, not device IDs which are meaningless without looking them up. ### 3/5 — It’s so so *2019-01-23, version 1.0* I’ve had this device for about a year which is used for my short term vacation rental in Lake Havasu, AZ. It’s worked well until last month when it stopped reading. Changed the lithium batteries as a precaution and it did not correct the problem. I emailed their support and they indicated they would replace my unit but they were out of stock with no indication of when it would be back in stock. But like most of these reviews indicate the device is fairly reliable and decently built, however the app is terrible. For example, I use the device to monitor the gallons used for 2-7 days at a time by my guests. It is extremely difficult sometimes to review a particular day when my only choice is to press on the graph. It can take a minute or more for the app to recognize the day I want to look at because there is no way to zoom in on one day so it reads temperature, the day before or day after instead. Maybe it’s my fat fingers but if I could zoom in my fingers would be able to click the correct day. Maybe have an option to show a “list” format for daily gallons used as well as the graph so I don’t waste my time messing with the app for so long. The app overall seems like there was no thought put into it. Get with a developer and make it user friendly with some forethought. ### 2/5 — Not a good app *2018-11-27, version 1.0* This app is just meh. It’s just an html wrapper. No push notifications. No Touch ID/ Face ID. No HomeKit integration. They discontinued all WiFi based sensors mid 2025 without notice. App continued reporting levels that didn’t match the tank. Suggest the MyPropane app and sensor from Centri. Must use the web version. ### 1/5 — Run away. Ownership is a horror movie. *2024-01-30, version 1.0* I cannot tell you the amount of time I have wasted on this product and its two apps. Despite a CS degree, it took hours to configure and constantly has issues communicating. Batteries die and it fails to recover state. Software was terrible buggy and even the status lights don’t actually mean what the manual says. Now that Generac took over support and they don’t even pretend to diagnose problems. Product was a great idea and executed in the worst possible way by the most incompetent team. ### 1/5 — Not Very Reliable *2023-04-20, version 1.0* I’ve had 2 propane tanks with monitors for over 2 years. Things worked great until one of the last updates. Now neither tank shows the correct tank capacity nor orientation (horizontal or vertical). No amount of changing the options works because when you save it, it reverts back to the wrong values. It also swaps addresses when I try to update the settings. This really does need to be addressed but has not been so far. ### 1/5 — Awful App *2022-11-25, version 1.0* What a bad product. Probably well designed but the app and set up make it worthless. If you buy this you will be looking for an alternative immediately ### 1/5 — Crap *2022-01-11, version 1.0* It all worked as it should for a few months then I guess it just locked up. I reset everything including deleting the app and set it all backup. Then the percentage was way off but at least showed a little life. Later replaced a good battery for a fresh good battery and the best I can say is it’s inconsistent. (The original remote reading gauge provided by the propane company was faulty which prevented the hardware from functioning properly.) ### 5/5 — Works great… need new features *2021-06-17, version 1.0* I’ve been using the tank utility for a few months now, and it works great. As I’m getting more data, I’d like to see some new features in the app. Would like to be able to have the ability to choose a few different views of the tank level, usage and temp data. Would be great if you could select a monthly view, get an average of the parameters for that month, and then be able to view different months. Also would like an annual view. Need a way to zoom in. As the historical data builds up, it gets harder to zoom in to specific data points. The monthly filter would help this. ### 5/5 — So far, impressive *2021-03-22, version 1.0* My family has been using this for about 5 months now and it’s been nice to see what the propane level is-I live in Alaska and others in Midwest. I only rated it 4 stars because it’s only been a few months but so far, I’m impressed. I thought there was a problem once because it went from 40% to full in a day but then realized the tank was filled. Update- I’m still impressed with the monitor and the support has been excellent. I would recommend it (and have) to anyone that needs to remotely monitor their tank. The caveat of course is you need internet connection, but it’s still a good way to monitor at a distance. ### 5/5 — Easy to monitor tank *2021-01-06, version 1.0* Good idea as a product to make an easy-to-install remote tank reading. App is easy to use and had attractive displays of info including trend chart for tank level, consumption, and temperature. Readings are surprisingly precise. Takes awhile to learn the pattern of reading updates, but once acclimated to the long delays it becomes less frustrating wondering if the readings are occurring reliably. Mine provide readings every 3 days and another day for charts to update. ### 5/5 — Works great...and now even better. *2020-02-14, version 1.0* 2020-02-14 Update: I just noticed the app now has a battery level indicator. I would like to express my thanks to the development team! Also, there was previously a problem with tank size when you had several tanks. They all showed the same size. I could correct them, but they would revert to the same size after some period of time. This issue was also recently fixed! Thank you for this, too! It is so refreshing to see a development team listen to the customer base and make fixes. I have five of these tank monitors and I rely on them and this app for piece of mind when I’m traveling during the winter months. I recommend them to anyone who has a propane tank and nearby Wi-Fi signal. 2018 Review below... Rating (was 4 Stars) I’ve been using this for about a year now at a vacation home which has a large propane fired backup generator, heat as well as some propane appliances. It is very handy to know how my tank level is holding up during a prolonged power outage...as long as my internet provider is still up and running. I withheld one star because the 2015 version of this system doesn’t appear to have a battery level indicator. So I have to either wait until the battery dies or replace it in the late fall to be sure it won’t run out during the winter. You do need to have decent Wi-Fi signal near the tank and it makes sense to have the tank monitor mounted a few feet off the ground for better reception if you have an underground tank. I’m planning to buy the newest version of the monitor today. ### 5/5 — Works great *2019-12-11, version 1.0* I live in New York and have a house in northern Maine on Moosehead Lake. The winters can be brutal up there so it’s important that I monitor my propane levels so that I never run out of heat. This app and device has been running flawlessly giving me detailed updates caps so I know when to get a propane delivery. Very happy with the app and very happy with the device no issues so far ### 5/5 — Rock Solid *2017-11-06, version 1.0* I’ve been using this product for 12+ months now and I have to say - this is one rock solid product - no questions asked! I live on the mid-coast of Maine (Downeast) and can attest to this unit being subjected to many sub-freezing days - rain - sleet - snow - ice - you get the picture... Most recently a tropical storm that wiped power out for 5 days. The unit and app didn’t skip a beat. Once the standby generator restored power and our internet re-connected - I was monitoring the fuel usage while on generator power remotely. One less thing to worry about when you’re told “trees are down everywhere!” Good news is no injuries and no damage. So... I just used the “Order” option for the first time. Waiting to see how that goes as I am down 150 gallons unexpectedly. Stuff like this always messes up our auto delivery. Since I’ve never used this option until now - I expect my “gas company” will be getting in touch with me to confirm the delivery. More later on that experience... All in all - this product has given me ZERO issues. I’d give it 6 (six) stars easily! Bob, Downeast ### 5/5 — Easy setup *2017-10-11, version 1.0* Took me less than 15 min to setup. I have called support twice and have never waited more than a couple on minutes. I'm a pleased thus far as it has met and exceeded my expectations. ### 5/5 — Great App *2017-02-10, version 1.0* I don't write reviews for any of the 100+ iPhone apps I own - this one is an exception. I own a snow bound rural property 200 miles from my home, heated in winter with propane. It was a continual worry about fuel levels until I found Tank Utility. There were a few teething pains, easily fixed with a wifi extender and fresh batteries. The device has performed flawlessly ever since. It provides great piece of mind when you cannot readily be available to deal with issues. Price is a bit steep, but the outcomes are worth it. One of the few "must have" apps for rural property owners in my books. ### 5/5 — A real lifesaver *2015-12-15, version 1.0* V2 is a great product and a must have for a true smart home that relies on propane. Our provider does not seem to have the delivery schedule locked in correctly, so the email alert has saved my bacon and reduced my worry. Running out of propane like I did before is a real hassle, they have to test the whole system. Install and setup was a treat.
