## What is Tao?

Tao: Your Pottery & Kiln Tracker

Every potter learns the same way: by remembering what worked. Tao makes that memory automatic. It's a studio companion that turns each piece, each glaze, and each firing into data you can actually learn from — so every cycle makes you a better maker. Plus, you get cute stickers along the way.

Document as you make
Snap a photo and Tao starts tracking a piece. Batch capture lets you photograph and name a whole shelf of work in one pass. From wet clay forward, every project carries its own record — stage, form, clay body, dimensions, decorations, and notes — building a history you'll be glad you kept.

Capture what you actually did
The details that decide a result are the ones easiest to forget. Tao keeps them: which glaze, on which zone, in how many layers; which clay body; which schedule. Apply glazes zone by zone — inside, outside, rim, foot, handle — on an interactive 3D model, so your record matches reality instead of a vague memory.

A glaze library that remembers for you
Build real recipes with full ingredient lists, cone temperature, finish, and atmosphere — then attach fired-result photos. Over time you stop guessing and start knowing: this glaze, this cone, this clay, this look. Your wins become repeatable.

Turn firings into evidence
Plan a firing with a custom or built-in schedule, load your pieces, and monitor it live. Log temperature readings, mark milestones, and calculate heatwork (cone equivalent) so you understand what your kiln truly delivered — not just what the dial showed. Every firing becomes a data point you can compare against the next.

Close the loop on every load
A guided unload walks you piece by piece: mark survivors, flag favorites, record losses. Then write a firing journal while it's fresh. This is where learning happens — connecting what you planned to what came out of the kiln, and knowing exactly what to change.

See your progress, piece by piece
Your shelf organizes everything by stage — greenware, trimmed, bisqued, glazed, fired, complete — so your whole practice is visible at a glance. Group work into trays to plan sessions and load the kiln in batches.

Rooted in your own data
Tao doesn't tell you how to make pottery. It helps you discover it—from your own work, your own kiln, your own hands. The more you document, the more it gives back. Everything stays on-device, so your record is yours.

No ads. Your Data. Unlimited Projects.

### 5/5 — Excited to see where this app goes!

*2026-10-15*

Pretty decent for how new this app is! Seems like a great option for pottery tracking. My main gripe so far is a lack of icloud syncing. Would love to see this app utilize cloudkit so I can work on pieces on both my iPhone and iPad. A scheduled bulk export option would also be cool for data portability in case the app ever loses support.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the feedback! Great to know that you are using it across devices, and it's on the roadmap to make the sync work more seamlessly across the two!

### 5/5 — Easy to use, lots of features

*2026-09-28*

**Developer response:** Thank you for your support and trying out Tao!

### 5/5 — Great for batch projects!

I love this app! It’s great for storing multiple pots at the same time, and the stickers are super fun to peel. The app is really well designed and I love the little cats!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for supporting Tao and trying it out. I'm glad you enjoy the batch feature. It's also one of my personal favorite for throwing batches on the wheel.

### 5/5 — Great Tracking App for my Pieces!

*2026-09-16*

When I am working in a studio, I find that it is pretty easy to lose track of my pieces as they wait for bisque or glaze firing. This app is great for tracking as well as giving me options to track types of clay and glaze mixes.

Additionally the user interface is very modern and easy to use, I cannot ask for a better app!

**Developer response:** Thank you for supporting and trying out the app!

### 5/5 — The pottery app I’ve been searching

*2026-09-15*

What I love about this app is that it’s not just a place to track my pottery but it also helps my plan my firings! The glaze library is great since I forget a lot. I can even use Siri to add something when my hands are dirty.

My favorite thing thing is the polish and the delightful little touches. Like the cat empty states and the stickers. You can actually peel them!

This makes the app actually fun to use. I love it

**Developer response:** Thank you for incorporating Tao to your pottery journey!

UX improvements on photos, glazes, and siri.
Refactoring to optimize for iCloud sync, place and share components.

- Clearer confirmation: After you log a temperature you get a confirmation and your latest reading right on the screen, with a shortcut to every reading so far.
- Easier to fix a reading: Tap any past reading to correct it.
- Electric kilns: Adding a firing schedule and starting a firing are simpler.
- Camera: Fixed a crash when taking photos, and a problem where the camera could stay dark after adding more photos.

### 1.02 — 2026-09-19

Updated adding glazing type under decorations :) Now you can select from glaze, underglaze, slips, or oxide to decorate your pieces, and it will autofilter to your existing glaze list.
