## What is Taoran?

A lump of clay, a turning wheel, and your fingers.

Taoran is a quiet pottery studio in your pocket. Centre the clay, open it, pull the wall up and shape it. The clay here is not a slider or a set of presets: it is simulated as clay, with thickness and weight. Thin a wall too far, pull it too tall for its foot, or push too hard at once, and it will lean, fold and come down. And what came down can still be fired.

THE WHEEL
• Centre, open, pull and shape with one finger; two fingers turn the view or look down into the pot
• A rib to smooth the wall, a needle to carve lines or trim the rim, a wire to cut the pot free
• Set the wheel's speed with a stroke of the brush: a wide pot wants a slow wheel

COPY THE CLASSICS, AND LEARN
• Twelve classic forms to copy, from a cylinder cup to the meiping, yuhuchun, gourd and globe vases
• "Follow" shows every stroke: where to set your finger, which way to go and how fast. Your own stroke is drawn beside it in red, so you can see what to change
• Each copy earns a seal for how close it came: capable, wondrous, divine, untrammeled

GLAZE AND FIRE
• Seven vats: Ru celadon, Jian black, Jun blue, qingbai, persimmon, oxblood red, or bare clay
• The glaze runs and pools on the shape you made; a longer dip is a thicker coat
• The kiln adds its own chance: crackle, hare's fur, oil spots, and now and then a rare transformation

YOUR SHELF
• Every piece gets a name, a line from the master and a place on the shelf; take one down and turn it in your hand
• Visitors leave letters asking for a piece (a bowl for a cat, a home for a snail) and write back when it is made
• Don't like one? Discard it

• English and Simplified Chinese
• No ads, no in-app purchases, no account, no tracking. Works offline
