Any major changes to swift after that won’t be reflected here. Aside from that it does a great job of breaking everything down; I personally like the order and method in which it’s taught. ### 3/5 — Still not sure either way *2022-06-03* After completing the free lessons so easily I was compelled to purchase the rest of the app. It is a bit steep but the learning concept seemed to work with the free lessons. I am on the third ll fourth pay lesson now and am a bit confused. I don’t understand what all these things are for. If you already state x = 8 then why would you need to have all these true ll false constants about x? I guess I would like to know how all of these booleans and stuff are going to be needed in coding. A few examples of why we would need these strings would be helpful. I will update my review when I am done with all the lessons. Seems abandoned now, so not worth the money in retrospect. ———— I like it overall and would like to support it by paying the full $10. But I need to see a couple of changes first: 1) Stop rating my typing accuracy; the iPad's keyboard is terrible for coding. 2) Because of the above, a custom coding keyboard is practically a must. Or allow us to opt out of the typing exercises because they're frustrating without a good keyboard. I haven't used it on an iPhone yet, but agree with other reviewers that progress should sync across devices. The typos would only be concerning if they affect the accuracy of the information being presented, but they are kind of distracting. ### 1/5 — Please update *2018-04-07, version 1.2.1* Please update to the newest version ### 1/5 — Way Overpriced *2018-01-12* The developer is not responsive. People have been complaining about the lack of a progress tracker within lessons for a long time. You would think an app that teaches you how to make apps would be better maintained. Especially for the price of further lessons. The free content is extremely limited. It’s about 40 minutes to work through material that could be learned in under 10 minutes of reading. The exercises are not valuable, they are hoops to jump through that just provide filler, which is hugely disappointing. There are 9 free lessons, the other 25 are $10. This material, plus much more, is readily available online for free. I will buy the full lesson plan. ### 5/5 — Amateur Coder *2022-06-21* When it comes to coding it can be hard to find any appropriate resources to use on a phone. I’ve done SOME coding in C# via Unity and had fun with that. But because of that I was nervous to move to another language. TapCoding has been a breath of fresh air. It’s intuitive, easy to understand, and a fantastic little tool for when you’re on the run or in bed and can’t be bothered going to the computer. As an introduction to Swift, I highly recommend this. I’m about 1/4 through the content and my confidence in learning Swift has gone through the roof. I now understand a good amount of the basics and see the differences between C# and Swift. If you’re looking to dig into Swift, grab this app. There are free lessons to get you started, and if you want to go further there is a VERY affordable price to unlock the more advanced content. ### 5/5 — Review *2022-01-14, version 1.3.3* Really good just needs reminders ### 5/5 — Totally Satisfied *2021-08-28, version 1.3.3* It explains the concepts well, using simple language and examples. This app has finally got me all in on learning. The app is great I just don’t think the typing portion is that great or just needs to be a larger font. Also, dark mode or themes would be great cause the constant white background is straining. ### 5/5 — Free and helpful *2021-06-16* First of all, it’s free. You can buy early access to lessons or you can go at the recommended pace and the lessons will unlock as you go. Second, coding is very sensitive to typos. Most of the concepts are clearly written but I’ve found a few typos. There’s a mechanism to report them. Third, it utilizes a creative way of using the iOS GUI to learn the basics of Swift. Very cool. ### 5/5 — (FlairiflyLLC please read) I love this game so much! But… *2021-06-11, version 1.3.3* This game is SOOO great, but it needs more. I have a couple suggestions. 1 maybe you could add a playground feature where you can use the code you are learning about to make games. 2 (you are probably already going to do this but I’m saying it again anyway) you should really add more learning categories/add to the learning categories you already have.
