## What is TapMyNotes?

TapMyNotes — Every moment has a story.

Most notes only capture what you thought. TapMyNotes captures when and where too — with one tap, it automatically saves the timestamp (When) and GPS coordinates (Where) — precise and unchangeable. Then add your own words (What) to capture what happened, how you felt, or what mattered in that moment. Your words are the key to your memories. Don't leave a tap blank.

With this app, you can build a searchable timeline and spatial history of your life — travels, work, health, ideas, and everyday moments, at every exact place.

Organize your way — in two simple layers:

* Tap Entities — broad categories (e.g., My Travel, My Health, My Work)
* Tap Items — specific interests within each (e.g., Hikes, Symptoms, Projects)

Set up your structure once. Then tap to record — instantly.

Every tap captures three essential elements :

* When — precise timestamp with time zone (view in local time, even when travelling)
* Where — GPS coordinates, altitude (additional address, and distance & altitude changes)
* What — your text note (editable anytime so you can complete your thoughts later)

Find and explore your past like never before:

* Search by text or date (location search coming soon)
* Compare a past tap with your current time, distance, and altitude
* View a sequence of taps to see timeline and location progression
* Visualize your journey on an interactive map

Auto-caching — your passive memory log.

Even when you don't manually tap, the app automatically caches location records when you open the tap view or map (minimum 5 minutes and 50 metres depart, adjustable). Review them later in a list or on a map. No action required — just open the app and let it work quietly in the background.

All cached taps are saved in a separate database with a configurable limit — never mixed with your user tap data.

Privacy first.

All data stays on your device. We never see your notes, location history, or coordinates. You own your data, just like you own your device — completely.

Advanced: global coordinate support.

TapMyNotes automatically handles the GCJ-02 coordinate offset used in mainland China. Your map pins appear exactly where they should — no manual conversion needed. A first for a personal notes app.

Your entire history in one place.

All tap records are saved within the app. Storage is remarkably efficient — for example, one user's nearly 30,000 records over near a decade take up only about 8 MB. TapMyNotes can hold a lifetime of essential moments — all on your device.

A tool for life, not clutter.

TapMyNotes is designed for the big picture — the essential moments, locations, and your own keywords that anchor your memories. For photos, videos, or lengthy journaling, use other tools. Just add matching keywords in those external notes so TapMyNotes becomes your personal index — the backbone of your life's timeline. You'll find that when you need to quickly locate a memory from a sea of data, TapMyNotes may be your most powerful tool.

Get started in seconds. Keep refining forever.

Your first tap entities and items are pre-loaded as templates to help you get familiar with the app's features. We strongly recommend customising them to better fit your interests over time. Detailed in-app help is always available.

Download TapMyNotes and start capturing your life — one tap, one moment at a time. Remember, time and location are set at the moment of recording — they cannot be changed or recreated. Start now, and capture the beautiful moments of your life.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.4.0 — 2026-08-25

We're pleased to bring you TapMyNotes 2.4.0, with improved stability, smarter search, and a more intuitive experience for recording and preserving life's moments.

Important: This update requires iOS 15.4 or later.

Stability & Reliability

• Fewer crashes – Fixed several rare crash scenarios involving location services, background transitions, and database loading, making TapMyNotes more reliable.
• Smoother background transitions – Switching the app to the background and back to the foreground is now more reliable, with fewer interruptions.
* Improved data loading – Database operations are now handled more safely, reducing unexpected crashes during app launch and data loading.

Smarter & Faster Search

• New Search help section – A dedicated "Search" guide is now included in the help documentation, explaining how to use cascading search across Tap Entities, Tap Items, and Taps.
• Optimized search performance – Search now waits briefly while you type, reducing unnecessary processing and making the search experience smoother and more responsive.
• Improved search bar layout – On iOS 15 and later, the search controller no longer blocks the top menus. The search bar also returns to its normal size after pressing the Search key.

Improved Moment Recording Experience

• Color-coded note headers – In the note editing view, "Tap Note" (the note attached to a past tap) now has a blue header, while "Default Tap Note" (a pre-defined template for future taps) uses an orange header. This visual distinction makes it easier to tell which note you're editing.

• "Default Tap Note" moved to the context menu – Previously, "Default Tap Note" appeared as the first left-swipe action, placed right next to "Latest Tap Note." To reduce accidental edits, it has been moved to the long-press context menu. It remains easily accessible while being less likely to be selected by mistake.

If you're unsure how to use these gestures, the help documentation in the App includes screenshots to guide you.

Additional Enhancements

• Launch progress indicator – TapMyNotes now displays a full-screen progress indicator with a percentage and a brief status message during startup. This provides immediate feedback when startup tasks take longer than usual, so you can see that the app is working and track its progress.

While startup is currently fast, this progress view also provides a foundation for future releases in which additional startup tasks may need to be completed before the main view is ready.

• "Replace First Line" in note editor – A new context menu option lets you quickly replace the first line of a note with text from the clipboard, making it easier to update templates or recurring entries.
• Improved help document view titles – Information and drill-down views now display clearer titles, such as "Info • Search", making it easier to identify the help section you're viewing.

Thank You

Thank you for using TapMyNotes! Your feedback helps us make each version better. If you enjoy the update, we'd love it if you left a review.

Happy recording your lifelong moments—capturing the Who, What, Where, When, and Why!

### 2.3 — 2026-07-06

This update focuses on improving location features, reliability, and overall usability.

* Faster GPS information display & update — Views with the current location details and related calculations now appear much more quickly, dramatically reducing waiting time.
* Smart PACE Optimization — The PACE section in the Tap Info view is the calculation result of time over distance as time per km/mile. It now intelligently filters out odd calculation results (for example, 2 years and 3 months) when viewing stationary taps in the past, cleanly displaying "over 60 minutes" instead.
* Better location status feedback — Clear messages are now shown when location services are unavailable or restricted, helping you understand why location information may not be updating. For example, the location setting in your device or the app was changed to Never or Restricted, or you are in an area with poor GPS reception.
* Improved GPS support in China — Enhanced handling of map view for your current location and past tap locations while in China, with the accurate pins displayed on the map. Resolved an issue where location pins drifted between 100m and 1km from their actual positions in previous versions.
* Altitude information — Altitude is now included in the current location view.
* Updated app information screens — Improved layouts, better readability, Dark Mode support, and easier navigation.
* Added database information — Database summary is now included in an app information screen with the up-to-date details about your stored data.
* Stability and reliability improvements — Fixed several performance and crash issues related to maps, search results, sorting, and location updates.

Thank you for using TapMyNotes — making life's moments simpler to capture and more meaningful to keep.
