### 5/5 — Cool stuff off the beaten path

*2022-10-20, version 2.7.5*

If I were interviewing at companies, I would use the data structures and algorithms videos on Taro. I like that Taro helps you get in touch with other coders!

### 5/5 — Very helpful

Followed the youtube channel and came here. Great content for furthering my engineering career

### 5/5 — Amazing content but a laggy UI and crashes

*2022-08-08, version 2.4.9*

The content is amazing!

Some issues though,

I’m using it on an iPhone 11 Pro Max and it crashes after I search and click on a video and after I click on tags under any video it crashes and exists.

Otherwise, a great experience overall!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2022-06-28, version 2.2.4*

Goldmine for aspiring engineers in the toxic Indian community

### 5/5 — Useful!

*2022-06-23, version 2.2.3*

It’s got a lot of useful information out in the app for starters in the tech industry!

### 5/5 — Excellent resource, highly recommend!

*2022-05-03, version 2.0.2*

Thank you for building this app and the community! I just started at a large tech company as a SWE and the information from this app has been incredibly useful.

Is there any chance you could add the ability to change playback speed?

Thanks again for all the great advice =)

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2022-04-09, version 1.3.3*

Smart people learn from their own mistakes; Wise people learn from the mistakes of others.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Videos do not load

*2026-06-26, version 3.9.5*

Yeah the videos don’t load 🥲

### 1/5 — Videos not loading

*2025-11-16, version 3.9.5*

Videos do not load on iOS

### 1/5 — Goodluck getting your subscription canceled

*2025-06-19, version 3.9.3*

These folks are very shady when it comes to letting you change the subscription. For all the talk they have on their courses on how to make user flow easy, they made it insanely difficult to change the subscription.

Have some class!

### 2/5 — This feels like a weird .com MLM for social media

*2024-07-16, version 3.6.4*

Not only was/am I not able to comment on ANYTHING let alone change my name, the process to figure out anything makes me feel like a proper Luddite given how I work alongside literal LUDS (aka Judges) and I am a useless hairless monkey when trying to operate this app. Please advice since y’all seem nice enough :)

Bless,

HEX

### 3/5 — Good content, horrible app

*2025-02-13, version 3.7.17*

Great content but the app lacks common video features you'd expect like autoplaying a playlist and auto-fullscreen. The app also randomly crashes on certain videos making it inaccessible.

### 4/5 — great content, buggy app

*2026-02-27, version 3.9.5*

amazing content from the folks on here, though i keep having an issue with the playback on ios. randomly the audio will stop playing. i’ve reproduced this many times

### 4/5 — Need course search feature

*2025-01-13, version 3.7.17*

The content is 10/10 and worth every dollar I spend. My 5th star is reserved for when course search feature is added. I have a specific course I want to watch and can’t find it in the app.. keep it up guys.

### 4/5 — Excellent and will improve

*2024-09-08, version 3.7.11*

The premium version of this app is far better in terms of usefulness for amount of time spent learning than anything else I have tried to level up software engineering skills: better than trying to sift through YouTube, LinkedIn Learning, or asking ChatGPT. Taro does not teach specifics of syntax or “how to code” so much as a focus on how to think like a software engineer on everything from code quality to career growth. Thus, the principles apply across programming languages. The difference in thinking that can be gathered from this app matters a lot for transitioning from old ways of programming I learned in grad school to being a professional. I watched 3 courses over the past week! I was impressed by how well done it was and will continue watching more. The founders are very involved with answering questions during live office hours and on Taro’s forum. This is clearly made with great care and curation.

Is it perfect?
Gave 4 stars because some aspects of the user experience can be improved:
-The iOS and iPadOS versions only allow me to watch at up to 1.75x speed rather than being able to go up to 2x speed in the web version.
-Hard to tell which courses I have in progress or have completed. For some I have totally completed, it does not have an indicator that shows I completed it in the catalog of courses. For some that I am in progress with, I have to scroll down the catalog list or go into History to find which one I am on. There appears to be 26 courses available and many more masterclasses and forums. I think knowing the information available in Taro will improve the earning potential of most people who program for work.

Would I buy the premium membership if I could turn back time? Yes!
Would I recommend it to a friend who wants to become better at software techniques? Yes!
Do I wish I knew about and bought it sooner?
Yes, I wish I had this right after taking my first computer science course about a decade ago! I am not actually a software engineer, but I program for scientific work.

Taro continues cooking: I have a feeling that soon, the user experience aspects of the iOS/iPadOS app will be resolved.

### 4/5 — Great Content and Information, just a few UX bugs

*2024-07-15, version 3.6.4*

Been loving this app and I think it’s well worth the subscription money, especially if you work in tech. I have found the experience to be slightly better on the web app rather than this iOS version though. Minor features like autoplay and skipping to the next lesson tend to break. Still very worth the download in my opinion though.

### 4/5 — Love the career insites and presentation.

*2022-10-05, version 2.6.2*

The creators of this app have tons of engaging content with a good balanced view of how to grow in career skills related to developers. It is so encouraging so far.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for career growth

*2025-12-21, version 3.9.5*

Great for people starting their career or looking to improve it

### 5/5 — So far I like it

*2025-12-18, version 3.9.5*

As someone who transitioned to tech without a CS degree, I spend a lot of time thinking about how to cement foundational knowledge, how to continue to grow in my field. I like what I’ve seen from Taro because the advice has depth and nuance.

Sometimes the advice that you find online feels general or incomplete, but Taro feels like a deep conversation versus a soundbite.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2024-12-21, version 3.7.16*

It’s a good app however I feel one small feature would be great I.e when clicked on a link from linked in, it takes to a browser, it would be nice to have a open app button on the browser to open taro app instead of again authenticating via the browser. Thanks.

### 5/5 — Offline download for courses

*2024-12-03, version 3.7.16*

It’d nice to be able to download courses for offline viewing. No complaints otherwise. Lots of useful content so far.

### 5/5 — Great reckoner for tech career growth

*2024-10-18, version 3.7.14*

Love the interface and access to high quality tech mentoring

### 5/5 — Expensive, but worth it

*2024-09-06, version 3.7.11*

The app is a great compliment to the web platform. This is a bit more expensive than your average subscription, but you really do learn from the best. It's been several weeks and I've already leveled up my SWE skills by a lot

### 5/5 — A guide and a Tool Kit

*2024-03-12, version 3.5.0*

Taro gives guidance to Software engineers. We learn from engineers working in other companies in the industry. It provides a tool kit to become good at our profession. How to be productive, how to get promoted, how to have a mentorship.. The list can go on. Their GenAI also good material. Thank you Taro!!

### 5/5 — Life changing

*2024-01-26*

Incredible community of people and founders with a really sick vision who are keen to take on feedback to make everyone’s experience better!

### 5/5 — Good UI and contents

*2023-03-14, version 2.11.2*
