However, I think it needs an overhaul of UI design at this point with iOS apps heading into displaying glass effect. But now I haven’t seen any sort of update in years. They used to send a yearly email detailing the sort of things they were looking to implement in the year ahead. Even the compiled yearly list of when films came out that I have seen is only showing up to 2024. Is this app dead? Is it still being updated? There hasn’t even been a review in a year ### 2/5 — App has lost its luster *2025-12-29, version 2.6.0* When I originally got this app I was very happy with the features and the idea of building your “Taste” profile. However over the last year, there have been no improvements to the app. The recommendations haven’t gotten anymore accurate as I’ve built my profile. Match percentages are often wrong or misleading. The sync function does not work for streaming services and has never been fixed. This app has so much potential. I feel like Taste is missing their opportunity to become a household name in movie and TV recommendations. ### 2/5 — Don’t have old school movies *2025-11-19, version 2.6.0* I’m wanting to find more movies similar to the ones I’ve watched and seen (old school 1930s-90s movies) but the layout that decides what movie genres and concepts your into isn’t very thorough shows you a few modern ones and that’s all. If your looking for more suggestions that match your neiche you won’t be satisfied yet I hope they can fix it maybe with some ai to tailor to people’s tastes ### 4/5 — Great app, but no way to remove followers *2025-10-18, version 2.6.0* I love using this app to find new movies/shows and to keep track of the ones I have already watched. The only thing that really irritates me is the fact that there are only 4 options when rating something. I feel like having an option in the middle for “okay” movies/shows would be great. Not sure why they decided to use 4 stars instead of the basic 5 star system. Edit: Anither thing I’ve noticed is that there’s no option to remove a follower. Unless the other person decides to unfollow you, you are stuck with them. Even “block/flag” doesn’t remove them. Please add a way to remove people!!! 🙏🙏 ### 4/5 — My one downfall… *2025-10-11, version 2.6.0* Please PLEASE give us more characters to write reviews. When I read reviews on this app it feels so vague and uninspiring. I can only correlate this with the amount of characters used because when you read reviews on apps such as letterboxd, you can read the passion for movies in their writing. I envy that they can fully articulate their opinion on that app without being restricted. You could say “why don’t you just use Letterboxd then”, and thats a fair thing to say. However, I prefer every other feature on this app and it’s the one I have been using for years so I would prefer this app to tweak this one issue that would greatly improve the experience over abandoning the app altogether. ### 4/5 — needs more *2025-09-26, version 2.6.0* this would be perfect if the app also tracked your top actors and composers as well as the directors. ### 4/5 — Exactly what I want, but needs some updates. *2025-09-05, version 2.6.0* Exactly what I want for movie recommendations, but some of the extra features still don’t feel fully refined. The only issue is it’s recommendations/ rating section etc. focus primarily on new(ish) shows and films _ the popular stuff etc. I would like to discover older works as well. ### 3/5 — Needs an Update *2025-07-21, version 2.6.0* I like the app as a hub to keep track of my favorites across streaming services. And the suggestions have been solid. However, lately the app doesn’t include new episodes despite flagging the show as having a new episode on my home page. I can’t keep track of the episodes/seasons I have completed. I usually don’t trust the recommendations as much as it tends to recommend movies that aren’t as enjoyable as the recommendations infer. really is a hit or miss because it does recommend some good movies I’ve never heard of. Great app overall, just need to adjust the algorithm a little bit. ### 3/5 — This app could be so great *2025-01-26, version 2.4.0* I’m not sure why after I skip something on the swipe screen it’s then shown as the ‘match of the day’ - I thought the swipe left and right would help to make better matches for me. I am recommended to carry on watching series I have finished until the end also, which isn’t helpful. ### 3/5 — Not as Great *2025-01-15, version 2.4.0* It used to be extremely accurate with the % match aspect. I don’t know what happened but it is now way off. A lot less freedom in the free version now too. I want to know when I watched the movie I rated. Every other app that lets you track movies or TV does that ### 2/5 — I want to love this *2024-10-09, version 2.2.0* In concept this app is awesome. Serving as a platform to pull together shows and movies across all streaming sources to compare and build an algorithm that recommends you new media based on your unique taste is a great idea with obvious value to consumers. I really want to like this app… BUT honestly I’m not sure that it actually is good at gauging my taste at all. For example, I have actually never once in my life watch a sports movie all the way through and enjoyed it. But for some reason it is convinced that I must love sports media, because 4 of my top picks are sports movies and shows that I really have no interest in at all. I did notice how the app tracks other demographics such as your gender age and nationality and I imaging other 25 year old American guys might enjoy sports movies but that’s not a great basis to formulate a recommendation off of. Movies that I have rated as amazing often do not have a match score that is reflective of my love of them, some of my “amazing” rated movies rank as low as a 60% or even 50% match. It just feels like there’s definitely more work to do to make this app truly reflective of one’s unique taste. ### 4/5 — Good, but… *2024-09-04, version 2.1.1* I only have two Problems with this App, 1. I some of the shows or movies and or they get deleted? 2. I tried uploading a few titles on the site that they did not have but it Never worked. Can happen. When trying to delete my account, I was redirected to web flow, where I had to login again, and say again I wanted to delete my account. The button to delete account does not work. Hundreds of movies gone. This took so many hours of work to track all the movies I’ve seen in my life. I’ll never be able to compile that list again. I’ve been working on it for years. Whoever made that decision has no ability to consider user experience. The app is now pretty but pointless for me. It’s one of biggest horror films of the year. How come people can rate and review that movie on Taste?? ### 1/5 — Forcing updates is a no for me *2023-11-14, version 2.0.1* RE-UPDATE App used to have five stars, and I used to use this app religiously. It was awesome and whenever there was a new update it wouldn’t be mandatory, I would use the app as is. But I am not a fan of this new dystopian tactic apps are taking to force consumers to update. It’s VERY aggressive. I couldn’t just use the older one without the new features on my iPhone 12 pro max? It has nothing to do with size of updates but more so the design philosophy -the fact that you think you know what’s better for the consumer and don’t give us an option. I will update as I please, I was content with the service being offered (even with my data being collected) so I didn’t see a need to jump to the next update. And what’s funny is that the old version of my app worked absolutely fine. I never updated it and now all of a sudden I can’t even open the app, it just auto routes me to the App Store. The fact that you’re even allowed to do that and re-write the rules after I already agreed to your old terms of service is wrong. Imagine this: I go to a grocery store and they offer me an orange as a free gift, I go home don’t eat it immediately and then a few days later the salesman comes to my house, puts that orange in a lockbox and tells me I can’t eat it until I sign new paperwork. The orange is literally right there. Nothing has changed with the orange it’s still the same orange (me not updating the app). Eventually anything I was ever gifted for free or even things I paid for - their old owners start coming up to me saying, “new rules or you can’t use X Y or Z, and you don’t have a choice, either you agree or you can’t use this anymore”. And just like the orange in this scenario it’s not that big of an investment for me to be too concerned about, I’ll just leave the orange in the lockbox and let it rot. As a producer and engineer myself I enjoy products as IS, if it works I don’t tamper with it unless I know that the next version is stable, I like to wait. As a company I understand you write your terms in a way where consumers like me don’t even have these rights to older software, but again I can live without this app. Even though it was great! It’s not about taking up space on my phone, it’s about forcing users to update because you think you know what’s best for them -despite the old app working perfectly fine with less features. I just won’t be using this service any more as unfortunate as it is. ____________ UPDATE STOP FORCING USERS TO UPDATE!!! It alienates users who want to stick with lower IOSs. And the app works fine, so why force me to update??? This is the last time I’m updating then I’m gonna delete if they ask me again ### 1/5 — Suggests movies I’ve already marked awful *2023-11-12, version 2.0.1* I get that not every system is perfect, but almost every title suggested for me is always something I’ve already rated and oddly enough it will recommend titles that I rated as awful. When I do get a suggestion it is soooo far off. It recommended Squid Games when movies I mark as amazing and good are titles like Mamma mia, Cruella, and Friends. Haha. Im very much a musical or comedy type person. My favorite part is being able to track which episodes I last watched. ### 5/5 — Great App with Room for Improvement *2025-03-16, version 2.6.0* Great app! I love the UI, the recommendations, and the fact that almost every series and movie is available. However, I have a few suggestions. It would be great if we could create custom lists where we could add series or movies and name them as we like. The data on the types of films you watch, etc. is interesting. I’d love to see some more options for filtering the types of things it shows you as currently I believe you can only do this after you’ve swiped/saved. I would also appreciate a way to make custom lists (perhaps for different moods, events, friend groups, or even to keep track of certain franchises). Finally, I think adding a simple spinner tool to help pick films from your saved and matched lists - again with those useful filters - would be a great quality of life upgrade. I’m very interested and hopeful for the further development of this app. I think the current pricing is reasonable if you wanted to go premium, but I would need to see a few more features added before I consider it.
