## What is TATAT?

TATAT is a MIDI FX designed to create always-changing sequences, to quickly sketch music ideas, to add unexpected events to fixed patterns.

If you’re looking for new ways of generating musical ideas, then look no further than TATAT! Set up your parameters, define a mood and listen to an endless flow of notes which you can then record, tweak, and play along to.

HOW IT WORKS ///
TATAT generates infinite and always changing sequences of notes.
You cannot say exactly what TATAT will do, but you can suggest a path to it: by setting up its parameters you can create what we call a mood for TATAT. A mood is a configuration of notes, intervals, time fragmentation, velocity fluctuation, and other factors.
Once you set a mood that you are happy with, you’ll listen to an infinite stream of events, always changing, all staying in the mood.


At this point, according to your needs, you can:
- Let TATAT play its stream, and make some intervention to control it: to add silence (Less), to obtain smooth accelerando and ritardando (Ratio), to control how TATAT generates intervals. You can enable Key In function to change notes on the fly.
- Add some stability by controlling/automating the Liv/Mem slider, moving between the generated stream and frozen patterns.
- Use TATAT to send its notes to enrich (by enabling Thru) existing/incoming MIDI data/parts.

TATAT gives you excellent results both with melodic/harmonic and percussive parts!

MULTIPLE TIME RES /// Set chance for each time resolution to rule the stream, and scale results with main ratio to create organic time fluctuations.

FLOW VS PATTERN /// LIV/MEM parameter has a 0-100% range. When is set on 0%, a buffer with given length continuously records the stream; when it’s different than 0%, the buffer got locked, and you set the chance to get live or buffered notes. When you set 100% you always have the buffer content as a static pattern. You add the stability you want to the lunatic stream!

nice differentiation from the other apps in this space. offers a different way to generate midi that’s interesting and fun to use. my only gripe is picking the notes in the pitch area. tap and drag when your finger is on the box you can’t see what note you’re trying to narrow in on. why can’t i just tap and select from a menu? not the best UI choice as i spend way too much time time trying to get it to the right note.

I love this app for adding textures to my sounds, it really is amazing. Just a heads up, I cannot find where to save my presets or how to… idk if this was on purpose but it would be really dope to save my own presets. Other than that it is super dope for adding textures and adding distortion of sorts.

This is amazing as it can create notes and chords but isn’t a sequencer really. Ambience use is easy and great, and once u get the hang of it anything goes. Very unique, perhaps kinda like cality or autonomy.

This is a generative MIDI app, i.e. it is designed to create a stream of notes, shaped by parameters that you control, which you can send to the software synth of your choice. Load it in a MIDI channel in AUM, route the MIDI to an audio synth, press play in the transport and it'll create music on the fly. It's an interesting concept and I love generative music but TATAT is nowhere near as good as Piano Motifs, Polyphase or other generative apps. For a start is nowhere near as flexible: an instance of TATAT can only play a maximum of four fixed notes (e.g. C3, A3, D2, F4) throughout the entire song. Yes, that's right: you choose four notes to begin with and TATAT can only play those four notes, unless you play live and use a keyboard to change the notes, which kind of defeats the purpose of generative music. Why not have the ability to have TATAT change one or more of the notes at random at the end of every bar, with a "probability of change" parameter and a scale parameter so that the notes stay in a chosen key?

The second big problem is the manual. It's AWFUL. Just completely useless. It's really disappointing when developers put lots of effort into creating an app but can't be bothered to spend even the minimum of time on a manual. Simply listing the buttons and giving a brief description of the button is not enough. Examples: there's a "time resolution" section in the app. What is time resolution, and what effect will it have on your music? Here's what the manual says:

Time Resolution: set numerator and time signature for time resolutions

Huh?

Or: Lentgh Value (there's a spelling mistake in the manual - it should of course read "Length Value"): Set note length.

These things tell the user absolutely nothing. Even worse, the tiny manual talks about installing the app on Windows...

Also there's no MIDI control within TATAT other than a Thru - no channel control, nothing. So you have to route everything through AUM's MIDI, which isn't necessarily a problem, but it's worth pointing out.

So...it's got potential and I really wanted to like it but at the moment I'm finding it to be so limited as to not worth spending much more time on. I'll stick with the far superior Polyphase.

I like this, ui is nice and intuitive, would love to see some modulation options introduced like an lfo you could assign to the note sliders or rhythm sliders etc. and the ability to use mor3 than 4 notes would Be nice too.

An experimental gizmo, for the price of a drink. Capable of producing interesting variations, some more melodic than others, others more useful when a bit of chaos is the desired outcome. If possible, what I’d love to see added, is a function to greatly extend the sustain of notes. Both selected and randomly.
