I’ve been using podcast player apps for almost 20 years and am very picky about them. I must have tried 30-40 podcast apps to date searching for one that fits my needs, and Tatori was the clear winner here. Many years ago podcast apps didn’t even have bookmarking. Although it’s the norm now, a lot of apps still fall short. Many “bookmark features” do nothing but collect time stamps upon a button press and so they can’t define both start and end points of an excerpt. Many don’t even let you label your bookmarks. And even if they did, many don’t have a way to export them so they’re held captive in the app so you can’t collect and organize them in your own documents. Tatori’s bookmarking functionality is the best of any podcast app that I have tried so far. It had all these features plus the ability to actually create separate files for each clip so you can save and play them later. Super useful during times I don’t have internet access and the old episode auto-deleted a long time ago. The developer continues to incorporate intuitive changes based on feedback. Absolutely worth downloading and investing yourself in discovering how the app can make your listening experience better than you likely ever imagined possible. At least that was my experience, the layout and style is comfortable and familiar, but also unexpected based on my my time using many other top rated apps. The frustrations that I had with those other similar apps, though, just has not been present here. Just created 2 Clips from bookmarks and the time synchronisation was good so came here to comment and saw another update 🙏🏾 —— If I could give more Stars I would. Now with your Clips feature 👍🏾👍🏾 However, to bring things back down to earth. Just tried to make a clip (from the single bookmark on the podcast) But the clip always starts around 1 minute After my bookmark’s Start time!? After much trial and error I was finally able to get the clip I wanted by making by bookmark start roughly one minute Before the actual audio start time. It is my first and the Clip is great and clear so I’ll check results with other podcasts… Full disclosure, my favourite pod catcher is PocketCast for several reasons but a major one being its support for Chromecast Audio. But having been a long standing Audible user I was also familiar with the idea of Bookmarks and PocketCast does not do that. Hence my searching out this app for its USP. And it’s great. I find myself wanting to make bookmarks more and more and Tatori enables me to do so. By the way I find the app intuitive and all features work well especially the Bookmark features which I find more comprehensive than I could have hoped for. If your podcast feed contains video items it will play them and you can create bookmarks and clips just like audio files. At this time it is not possible to import your own audio or video files. ### 5/5 — Great features *2021-04-19* The new feature of ability to export clip is awesome !!! ### 5/5 — Absolutely love this app - finally easy podcast bookmarks! *2020-05-23, version 3.1.0* This is a very well thought out app. It has a slight learning curve so it might seem a bit strange at first but it’s very intuitive and powerful once you get the hang of it. My only nit-pick is that in the “now playing” view I would rather have a collection of “skip” buttons with different times than the 2 large buttons you can change by holding - but it’s by no means a deal breaker. Great app - this is what all apps should be like - thank you dev ### 5/5 — The podcast application I have been looking for *2020-01-09, version 3.0.1* I have been looking for exactly this application. I listen to lots of podcasts while walking and commuting and I need a way to bookmark specific locations in a podcast and take notes. This application allows me to do exactly that and more. I finally have a workflow where I can listen to podcasts, take notes and then store them in Evernote through the Share Bookmarks feature. To top it off, the application allows me to also bookmark a podcast from the Apple Watch. The application is well supported and the developer has also been very responsive to feedback. Brilliant! ### 5/5 — Great bookmark capability *2019-10-07* I like the bookmark capabilities so far, especially how I can simply double tap the image and it will create a bookmark quickly.However, I wish the image took up a larger portion of the screen when in driving mode (similar to audible), so that it can make double tapping and creating a fast bookmark easier to do while driving. Also, I wish I had the the ability to save the previous 15-30 seconds by default from that double tap instead of just marking the place or having to tap again from the pop up. But overall really good when not driving but the drive mode bookmarking capabilities could be improved. Thanks. **Developer response:** Edit 1: Hello, the latest version of Tatori (3.0) should address a few of your suggestions. With large buttons, the player view is easier to interact with and you can also create bookmarks back in time from the player's current time. I'll see what I can do to make the quick bookmark setup a bit more flexible as well. ### 5/5 — Almost there *2018-11-21* This is the app that has been missing from the market. I absolutely love the ability to leave bookmarks on episodes or audiobooks! The area that still needs more focus is the playback rate. I would love more options between 1-1.5x. Silence trimming, voice boost, etc. clone the audio features of the popular podcast players :) Another suggestion: one tap bookmarks that just use time stamp for the label. Thanks. ### 2/5 — Not intuitive *2022-09-11* Can’t even add a podcast to try … after pressing on +, finding podcast, and subscribing there’s no obvious next step (long press, drag and drop, or highlighted button to add podcast into queue). Going to wait a few days to see if this is a bug but may just delete the app to try something else. ### 3/5 — Love the features, can’t share notes *2020-02-03* I’ve been wishing for something like this for a long time and I love it! My only complaint is that, though it is supposed to be an option, I can’t seem to be able to share my notes. I’d love to be able to send them to Evernote or something like that so I can search them more easily. Great app though! **Developer response:** In previous versions of Tatori sharing was only enabled for podcast episodes with a URL from the feed. In the most recent update (3.0.2), sharing bookmarks is enabled for all media content including audio books even if they don't have a URL, so this should no longer be an issue. ### 4/5 — Awesome potential *2020-01-02* I’m so excited to have found this app, after having searched for something like it for several years now. However, I would like to see my bookmark “comments” below the bookmarks, similar to the bookmark view in “audible”, which would give me more of the functionality of something like “noted”. I cannot seem to figure out how to rename a bookmark title, and how to delete bookmarks (I can “select” bookmarks, although for no real purpose). There is no sideways slide option implemented for bookmarks either. I’m also still struggling with how to use the app. I appreciate all the info pop ups, but they are a bit terse, and don’t quite explain what a “skip” bookmark is. Perhaps a dedicated “guide” text that could walk the reader through examples that also explain the intention and the outcome might be helpful, and explanations for when to use what functionality, depending on different use cases. **Developer response:** Thank you for the helpful review. I will try to do better at explaining the app in future versions. For now hopefully I can clarify a few issues you're having. You make a good point about viewing the bookmark comments in the list, I will see about adding that as an option. There are a couple ways to rename a bookmark. While setting up a new bookmark, you can tap on the name 'Bookmark' that appears at the top of the screen to edit it. After creating a bookmark, tap on it in the bookmark list to view it in the bookmark editor. From the editor view, tap on the bookmark options button in the lower right corner. It will present options to Rename or Delete the current bookmark. When you're in bookmark selection mode, tap the button with the green check to confirm your selection. It will present several options to run on the selected bookmarks, like Sharing or Deleting them. Tap the red X to exit selection mode. A 'Skip' Bookmark is a bookmark with the Skip option enabled. The bookmark's start and end times define a region the player will skip during playback, so you don't have to listen to it. This is helpful for removing unwanted content like repetitive theme songs or advertisements from podcasts. Couple more features will make it excellent. *2018-07-11* Definitely on the right path adding bookmarking to podcasts. Really helps with referencing valuable topics later. Only challenges are these: 1) it’s difficult to change a “bookmark” (a single point on the time line) into a “bookmark clip” (a block of time with a start and end time). When editing a bookmark, it shows the option to change the start time and add an end time, but there’s no way to save the change currently it seems. 2) When looking at the bookmark view for a podcast, it doesn’t show the names of the bookmarks you’ve defined. Only “bookmark 1, bookmark 2, etc) 3) The search feature doesn’t seems to currently index (search against) your custom bookmark titles 4) Doesn’t currently look like there’s a way to export your bookmark clips into a general format for external use 5) I tend to listen to podcasts when running, would be amazing to have the bookmark / bookmark clip capture feature be enabled from a physical button on the phone when the app is active. There are some great photo apps that do this and it makes usage so much more fluid with what you’re already doing. Overall a great concept with fantastic potential. Hopefully the dev continues to invest in the concept and attack some of these quick wins. Thanks again for making the investment to build this app! The biggest change is the addition of OPML import/export functionality so you have access to your data. Hopefully you find these updates useful. Hopefully I can clarify a couple of these issues and perhaps update the tutorials in app. 1) To change a bookmark into a bookmark clip, open the bookmark editor and find the 'End Time' button above the picker wheel. Tap it to set the end time to the player's current time, which must be after the bookmark's start time for it to save. The timeline will refresh to indicate the bookmark's new length. 2) The view may have required a refresh because it should display the available bookmark names. Names like 'Bookmark 1' and 'Bookmark 2' are the auto-generated bookmark names and can be changed from the bookmark editor. 3) To run a search for bookmark titles, make sure the 'Bookmarks' content selector is active in the episode list. The bookmark titles are ignored when the Downloads and Feed content lists are active. 4) Correct exporting isn't currently supported. 5) While I can try to add support for Apple's bookmark remote command it ultimately depends on the remote device's interface. Apple has a guideline (2.5.9) stating "Apps that alter or disable the functions of standard switches...will be rejected" so I'm a bit limited to using Apple's provided command support. My only gripe is that I REALLY want you to please release a version for macOS. Porting the iPad app to macOS isn’t so difficult anymore, and I’d be happy to help you do that if you want (for free)? This is the only review I have ever posted. This app is so useful and powerful compared to similar. I find bookmarking essential for studying audiobooks and podcasts. I have used most of the top apps that support bookmarking and similar important audio-study features. This app is by far superior. It’s not just a bookmark editor, it’s a complete podcast and audiobook app, and it’s better than anything else I’ve tried. No data being collected is a huge bonus. Pro version is worth it. You can tell this is the app the developer was looking for, so they made it themselves. A couple highlights: The fact that you can change the lock screen player buttons The player with big buttons makes it really convenient on the go, no fiddling around with tiny buttons. To the dev: I think the name and description may be limiting the apps reach. At first glance I thought it was just an app for adding bookmarks to podcasts before publishing them, but it’s so much more.
